Re: Greatest Championship Reigns In History By Weight
I would say the whole article was a cleverly veiled ploy to praise Louis and dismiss Mayweather, I like Louis he's undeniably great but his career is built upon statistics. Monzon is a great who has a career built upon being seen as unbeatable, he would beat very good opposition any which way he chose. Looking beyond the statistics for a change, nobody has ever dominated a division like Monzon, he had one singular dodgy moment in his reign when Valdes dropped him. In that moment we're not talking about a Galento type but one of the great forgotten middleweights, a guy who would have competed in any era then you have the dismissal of Napoles as opposed to the struggles with Conn.
Statistically Louis is number one but based on sheer dominance, level of opposition and performance level it's Monzon all day.

Dear God Truss......even your aliases are demented (better grammar, though, is this your "sensible" side)? Does every thread have to be about Mayweather? Serious love story going on there. Cape Fear love.Hammersmith harrier wrote:I would say the whole article was a cleverly veiled ploy to praise Louis and dismiss Mayweather, I like Louis he's undeniably great but his career is built upon statistics. Re: Greatest Championship Reigns In History By Weight
Rather than focusing on one part and it's quite a big part because Elorde over Mayweather is one of the more stupid things i've seen posted on here unfortunately.
Throughout this whole process you have focused solely on statistical evidence only when it suits you mind but completely ignored the fights themselves treating them as a mere number. I'm well aware that Louis defended his title 25 times in 12 years but I want to know why that's more impressive than Monzon, Foster, Duran and Armstrong well and truly dominating a division. They reigned for shorter and defended fewer times but they all performed better against a higher level of opposition.
I will admit I don't rate Louis record all that highly, there is nothing to get really excited about and struggling with lesser smaller opponents isn't a great indicator for me. He almost always found a way to win but against his opponents he should have been beating them easily in the first place.

You've obviously misread the original criteria which specified the statistical emphasis. Thankfully, your view on Louis is in the minority. Great fighter, greatest ever champion.

Re: Greatest Championship Reigns In History By Weight
You may as well have just posted a list of the longest serving world champions because nothing else matters. Also resorting to accusing others of being an alias is quite pathetic, you and Strongy have nothing to add.

Sorry, it's just you and Truss are so tuned into one another, I get confused.
There were other considerations (did you have a look at the original criteria Truss)?

Give it up Hammersmith. It's like debating a used condom. He may as well add Wlad to the list.

He's only just won the lineal title so that's a long old way to go to surpass Louis.azania wrote:Give it up Hammersmith. It's like debating a used condom. He may as well add Wlad to the list.

You've both caught me, I'm actually Truss and I base all my opinions on Boxrec. Good one Haz you know someone's resigned to having no opinion when they start petty accusations.

Re: Greatest Championship Reigns In History By Weight
So Joe Louis is the greatest because he had the longest reign. Quality of opposition doesn't come into consideration.
Pathetic.

And boxers have had shorter reigns but against far superior opposition yet you would have Louis above them.

Are we stop with the insults or am I going to start with the bans. Either way works for me.

Sorry Jeff -- just playing (didn't realise calling someone Truss was an insult).
Maybe it'll enter the lexicon like "Munsened".

To be honest in the grand scheme of what has gone on here calling someone Truss does not even make the top ten.

May not be the fashionable thing to admit round here but I really like Bob Mee. His columns in Boxing News are regularly excellent and when he picks the right subject his books are excellent.

Just thought I would mention it Truss, timely reminder that he is a fine writer, irrespective of him rating Moore way too high.

Can I just say, because after I have deleted the offending posts this won't make sense but homophobia is not acceptable round here. Seems to be a misguided belief it is permissible to use this kind of language on here, it isn't and will not be tolerated.
