Lewis v Wlad
Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
I don't expect to see Lewis back int he ring, but if he did come back to take on Wlad, could he beat him?
Hoenstly, I say yes. Wlad is a big lump of hug. One left right combo and Lewis would have Wlad on Bambi legs.
After seeing him this weekend, I am more convinced than ever that Wlad is one of the worst HW champs to have reigned for some time. He relies on his size, and when that isn't enough, he cheats. Leaning, hugging, throwing to the floor. It is pathetic to watch. He has not one single name on his record who I consider a world class heavy and would have been battered by an array of 90's heavyweights.
Lennox by KO.

Re: Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
What better way to greet Lewis back into boxing than an opponent who will give him a big massive hug.
Re: Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
Vitali was far better than this Wlad. Lewis landed bombs on Vitali and one of theose would flatten Wald. Lewis doesn't have to be fit for twelve rounds, he gets it done inside 6 or not at all. Wlad relies almost exclusively on size and being able to get away with tricks that Lewis wouldn't let him get away with.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:No he'd get hammered...............Struggled with Vitali and would have lost a rematch......

Tony Thompson gave Wlad trouble in their fights until he was stopped. Lewis pulls a Foreman via Moorer but earlier. Lewis KO in 4

Lewis wants 100 million....
If I remember, Calzaghe said if someone offered him £10 million he'd come back......I think hes still waiting by his phone, just waiting on the call that will never come

Re: Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
Think against tall fighters both Klits are open to the uppercut, usually I'd say the first time Lewis lands one against Wlad it's all over.
But 10 years retired & 45 years old?
Seems a step too far & I hope he doesn't do it.
Would've been interesting to see who Manny Steward would've picked to train

If he had a few warm ups fights to sharpen up his timing and punching and gain fitness he would have a good chance I think. It really hard to say without seeng what condition he is now. Id back George Foreman from the early 90s to KO both Klitschkos.

You rate Wlad cause he has reigned for so long. You totally neglect how bad his opposition has been. He has zero, ZERO world class HW'a on his record.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Lewis 4 -4 Wlad..........

Wlad may be top 20, Lewis is top 10.
Foreman was out for more.
Lewis by KO. Left, right, done.
And done

Got to say I am with Truss on this. People go on about Foreman but forget he took about 20 odd fights to blow the rust off before facing Moorer and even then it took a hail mary punch when a country mile behind on points to get the job done, and Wlad is no Moorer. He has sod all chance and is smart enough to know it, will stay happy and retired hopefully.

I think anyone who picks lewis to win is not doing it because they genuinely believe lewis could win but because they dislike Wlad.

That Vitali would have murdered any Wlad. Vitali has a chin, he took bombs from Lewis and gave bombs. Prime Vitali KO's prime Wlad.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:I'm not a fan CS and I pick Wlad easily........

And for the record, I am going for Lewis both because I like Lewis and dislike the most boring, huggging, leaning, throwing champ in the history of HW champs

Re: Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
Wlad will be intimidated by Lewis!!!!!! He'd know Lewis is a cagey canny operator and wonder what it is he still has in the tank to make him think he still has it in him to step into the ring. Wlad will also know that Lewis is the first genuine great that he's faced and there'll be nagging doubts in the back of his mind. He'll be concerned with "beating up a legend" and be reluctant to let his hands go (what's new there then) and instead resort to jabbing all night long (what's new there th..oh, I already did that one).
His reliance on the jab will leave Lewis free to get his right hand over the top and clean Wlad's clock.
Shame Lewis has admitted it was a wind-up and won't be coming out of retirement

Re: Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
Jeffries could not do it after six years, Ali could not do it after two, Holmes could not do it after three years, but Lewis after 10 years at a far more advanced age than any of those guys can do it.
I have some Enron shares going fairly cheap if anyone is interested.

Ali could not do it immediately after two, but let's not act like he did nothing after his lay off.
Lewis KO baby. It's only Wlad. Take away his size and he is nothing. Couldn't even KO Povetkin.

Re: Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
But you can't take away his size so it's frankly a ridiculous point. He is a fine boxer at the peak of his powers and Lewis is a 300lb 48 year old who has been out the ring for 10 years.
Clearly he is on the wind up, but it is absurd that people think he has a chance.

I meant the Holmes fight Sean, to be honest it may not have been two years. His earlier comeback was a little different as age wise he was still positively a kid in comparison to Lennox.Seanusarrilius wrote:Ali could not do it immediately after two, but let's not act like he did nothing after his lay off.

I've got a feeling this is like syria....
Kerry: well i guess we wouldn't invade if they got rid of all there illegal biological weapons but that aint going to happen........ Oh balls...they are going to do it.
Lennox: Sure why not for $100 million heck i'm already in training lol.........oh balls they took me seriously
TBH he said this 5 years ago this isn't new news, its just the heavywieght boxing world is so lacking in talent we are looking backwards...just like bloomin rocky

Lewis can't possibly go 12 rounds with Wlad no matter how good he gets in shape. His reflexes are gone, his punch resistance would be zero, but he may still carry enough power to trouble Wlad.
All in all Wlad would win by early to mid stoppage.

Said it before its just free publicity for his new Academy, Lewis knows he cant come out of retirement aged 48 and 10 years out of the ring and expect to be competitive even with a turgid champion like Wlad all he would have is a punchers chance and a likely hood of a prolonged beating against someone really not fit to have him on their record.

Sorry, there's no way I can back a 48 year old guy who hasn't fought in years. The guy has been on a beach sipping cocktails for the best part too!
I'd be cheering for Lennox but Wlad would have too much for this sorry, faded (but rich) version.

Re: Poll: Can Lewis still beat Wlad?
The thing about boxers is that they genuinely believe they can still fight after that long out the game..for comparison just been looking at foremans record TBH he came back at 38 and got his eye back in for a couple of years fighting lower level guys but then kicked on.....what he did was remarkable !! still he seemed to be fighting to prove a point about age rather than one final last payout, so his heart was probably more there.
started in 1969 finally retired in 1997 !!!
76–5
