Froch-Groves Undercard
First topic message reminder :
Aside from being served up a load of Gallagher Gym nonsense are we actually going to see anything worthwhile?
Crolla-Gethin is far from mouth watering but I'll watch it in preference to whoever Quigg and McDonnell are likely to be in against. Fielding? Ffs.
One decent chief support could have saved this but its a poor showing imho.

Just read Murray's fight, currently vs nobody, could be a non-title fight.....

Re: Froch-Groves Undercard
People moaning about this Froch v Groves card make me laugh. There will be some good fights on the undercard and an intriging Main Event. It's PPV, yes, at what, 14.99? Try the $60 minimum we pay in North America for bum cards that Top Rank throw together.
Sometimes I prefer the casual fan to hardcore boxing fans. This will be a great night for the sport as the main event is guarenteed entertainment. Will also appeal to the masses.
Can't wait.

Stephen Foster Jr. in for Gethin against Crolla. Not sure whether that's a better fight to be honest.

Its a poor undercard, anyone can see that. Hearn obviously thinks the main event is good enough to warrant not needing a strong undercard. time will tell

Really, I am just defending the event. I do think there are decent names on the undercard, if not great matchups. I would still pay 15 beans for it thoughmobilemaster8 wrote:Pull the other one Hearn.....sorry....sean.

Re: Froch-Groves Undercard
I've started to realise that this is only a poor undercard to genuine boxing fans. To the casual the card is immense with all those names, the lack of any worthwhile competition seems to be neither here nor there.
Anyway, hyped for this now regardless of the card. Buying into the hype.

Re: Froch-Groves Undercard
Id disagree Sean if in honest.
in the UK we are getting the likes of Mayweather vs Alvarez/Cotto, Alexander vs Porter, Malignaggi vs Judah, Mathyssee vs Garcia etc etc all for £10 A MONTH.
Why would we pay £15 (a fiver MORE) to watch ONE title fight between an experienced champion and a domestic/european level fighter who is yet un proven at euro level let alone world?
Had the undercard contained Chisora vs Proce, Mitchell vs Rees, Matthews vs Crolla 3, Or some decent fight, then id probably agree to pay.
Had the main been Froch vs Ward/Kessler/Hopkins/Dawson/Stevenson/Kovalev etc etc then the price would be justified.
At the moment, it should be labelled "The Night Of Mismatches"

Re: Froch-Groves Undercard
Its a joke of a card. And thats that.
Casuals have no idea who Callum Smith, Antony Crolla etc are so why would they be excited for them???
Hearn said this fight couldn't have been signed unless it was PPV.....yet Froch vs Bute was regular Sky Sports

Im in, It is a poor undercard for a fight that doesnt really deserve to be a box office event, but im really looking forward to the main event and the 7/8 rounds i think it will last will be very exciting.

Casuals see Joshua and Campbell along with a bit of hype toward Crolla (Mancs know who he is) and Murray. Therefore, they see a good card.

We rarely spend any time together Dave, find it is the key to a successful marriage. For some reason she does not seem particularly interested in the career of John L Sullivan or whether Charley Burley is the best fighter ever.DAVE667 wrote:I take it you're not sitting together then?Rowley wrote:If only they were that cheap Reborn, you can't seriously expect TSMR to sit with the lumpy proletariat surely.Reborn-DeeMcK-Reborn wrote: But having to pay nearly half the ticket price whne your sitting at home is a bit of a nonsense

Re: Froch-Groves Undercard
Agree absolutely, if you're not together you can't have a row (getting rid of your mobile is another sound move). I've informed the wife that Froch is fighting at the weekend...she says that's interesting but ultimately she doesn't care and we're still going out with friends. However, I planted the seeds the other week with her mate's husband by telling him about the fight. He may suggest we go back to theirs and watch it however, as he's an Everton fan and it's the Merseyside Derby this weekend, there's more potential for tears, tantrums, upset and words you wish you hadn't said in the heat of the moment and after five pints of Guiness so I may just have to contend myself with knowing that the result isn't going to be any different whether I watch the fight or not.Rowley wrote:We rarely spend any time together Dave, find it is the key to a successful marriage. So the undercard merry-go-round continues...
Joshua is off the card due to injury.
Martin Murray is off, due to a virus.
Stephen Smith is on (wonder if he has vacated the british title).
Andy Lee has been added today, which means Adam Booth will be in the building... hmm....

No shoulders? Think you need to have a proper look at himKingMonkey wrote:Dirrell's holding and grabbing was far from slick defensive stuff of the sweet science. It was ugly in the extreme. Close fight I didn't think Dirrell deserve to take.
Hold tight, the card has been saved though. Callum Smith has pit his WBC international super cross continental nothingness belt on the line. Phew. Meanwhile Rocky 'no shoulders' Fielding beats up another kidnapped African who looks confused and can't box.
Fighting Luke Blackledge now, can't wait for this!

*whistles* Blackledge eh..... E still my beating heart. Fielding is a chump. If his fight against another chump is something worthy of a ppv card, well, its a sorry state of affairs.

What exactly is Fielding a contender of? Who is he contending with?

Pretty sure Fielding is mandatory for the British belt against Paul Smith.
Not sure if anyone has seen the press conference, but the stare down was pretty tasty.

Has to be doesn't it, try an inject some life into a flacid card!
Fielding has said he isn't ready for Smith (LOL). And Paul will no doubt vacate so Callum can win it (Fielding won't be ready for Callum).
That said, I hope its a good fight.

Pretty sure Fielding said after his last fight he'd take the Smith anytime but Smith said he wants to vacate the belt for Callum.
Froch is going in to this with the sole intention of knocking Groves out cold, if Groves is able to box and move all night then Froch will look clumsy in my opinion.

I wonder how much money you would make if you stuck 50 quid on an accumulator for all the favourites to win on this card? I cant see there being any upsets.

It's about time Fielding stepped it up a little.............He's as good as he's going to get !!
Then again not sure what they can do with him.........He's a decent fighter in a very decent division......
The Smith point is a valid one also..........Didn't appear to want a glorified journeyman..

He's been with a strenght and conditioning coach for a little while now and has started to reep its rewards. He's got good skills and can fight on the front and backfoot. He's quite heavy handed aswell. I agree that he does need to step it up now and the Blackledge fight is definately a step in the right direction.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:It's about time Fielding stepped it up a little.............He's as good as he's going to get !!

'Smith is great', 'Smith will hopefully move to world level and vacate', 'I'm not ready for Smith'.
It was painful to watch.

Oliver wants to move him on slowly like he did with Murray. He obviously knows him best and wants to iron out any frailties in his game before making the step up. Once you have stepped up, there’s no stepping back without looking weak.
