New European Rugby cup (or whatever it is called) - Qualification agreed
First topic message reminder :
"Rugby Union is too complicated to understand to attract a mass audience in the first place."
which is the problem for union fans..
because otherwise league or NFL could overtake rugby and kill it.
Off course the reality is it isnt to complicated and by far the best form, but if union doesn't progress(as at the moment it is by far the biggest global rugby type game) others will over take

The talk of Nazis and Messerschmitts is making me quite depressed tonight. I would have thought that would unite us even if we are arguing the toss over the most trivial of matters.
Thankyou
Maybe it could be viewed from both sides of the argument. In online debates it has to happen, but once you understand Godwin's Law it becomes slightly less depressing.

Godwins law will come up pretty fast if you name yourself after a Nazi plane!! I always thought Focker Wolfs were cooler! But of course Spitfires + Hurricanes did Ok..
Still, I'm sure that there are other reasons at play here.
Still Munch = I'm sure.

Oh jebus...I guess I have to explain myself or else Captain Mainwaring and Dad's Army will have a heart attack...I used to be DOD which are the initials for Declan Kidney in Irish (Gaelic) and then I changed to ME-109 due to Joe Schmidt taking charge of the Irish team....

you realise of course that the affirmation of godwin's law came not from the plane, but from his post that got censored by biltong? don't want you to think i was the one who took it to that level here.stub wrote:Munchkin wrote:stub wrote:Hey Munckin - you're a good person I think. I think I missed that - Goebbels perhaps?
If indeed ME109 is not named after some unpleasant Nazi war machine, then that is good news to me.
Have to say though Schmit, I'm not quite ready for Dad's Army yet...
Anyway, here is probably not the place for that stuff as here I like to think we are mainly messing about. Then, we most certainly weren't - that is the past and definitely best left just there.

To look for insult where non is intended is a very interesting tool in online discussion. To quote Godwins law is both amusing and also wide of the mark. Still if it changes the discussion away from the lack of any depth in terms of the protagonists and the repeated attempts to say one thing and mean another is also a good tool.
Doesn't change the dearth of anything new nor the fact that it still comes down to apologising for the grubby nature of the PRLs attempt to take control of NH club rugby.

I didn't think it was about a plane. I did read the posts. Have to admit though that the use of ME 109 is quite clever
Think ME 109 was just winding you up, and to be fair you have been in form today. This I know
Soooo back to fighting about silly stuff. Ding! ding!

am very calm now munchkin. was a bit out of sorts several hours ago when i was a bit stroppy with you, so yes apols for that.
if nazi-plane ever makes an actual point rather than just accusing and abusing i'd be more than happy to engage. suspect he's not capable or willing at this juncture though. he just sounds like the kid who is worried about having his toys nicked by the bigger kid in the playground at the moment.

Quins were patting themselves on the back last year for the Heineken Cup quarter for resisting the move to make loads of cash from visiting Munster by moving the game to Twickers (terrified that Munster supporters would outnumber them in their home game).
As it turned out, the Quins fans flogged their tickets to Munster supporters so as to make a bit of cash themselves. Feck the club!

Re: New European Rugby cup (or whatever it is called) - Qualification agreed
I see thornley has said that the rfu proposal is a no goer and that it was initially in October anyway as the governance wasn't agreed nor has the BT deal.
Still the same case then if he is right. I won't put up the article as its just one sided in its view and the only thing of note is that his 'sources' don't believe it is an option.

Canal+ to sue LNR

Re: New European Rugby cup (or whatever it is called) - Qualification agreed
not suing yet actually. they are trying to get them to cancel the auction. they are upset that their bid (of EUR65m) for contract extension got leaked.
dont know much about french law, but in any legal system it will be hard to force LNR not to hold an auction which they have every right to do.
if they did something uncontractual then i imagine there could be some compensation due Canal+.

Well I hope French rugby stays on Canal+. Back in the US I get Canal+ on my satellite TV. Gives me a chance to help my lads keep up with their school French lessons. Also, frequently Canal+ has a pretty girl on the broadcast so my lads get other benefits as well.geoff998rugby wrote:Canal+ to sue LNR

Based on what? That article? There's nothing in it. No quote, meaningless.

I assume you are referring to the Stuart Lancaster comments rather than the fact a meeting is taking place.
The fact the meeting is taking place is highly significant

What reason would lancaster have not to have clubs play in the HC.
Its top competition between the nations clubs...all the best players. He wants his players to be competing in tournaments like this.

Gatland claimed that 'Stuart Lancaster was gutted that the English clubs had pulled out of the Heineken Cup', according to the Welsh Regions Joint Supporters Group meeting with the Welsh Rugby Union.

One thing that occurs to me is - if, by some miracle, the meeting today, between all 6 Unions, comes to some sort of truce/agreement where does that leave the Welsh Regions ?
