Post by MtotheC Sat Jan 18, 2014 2:25 pm

After recently finishing/catching up with a number of shows I'm now on the look out for my next obsession.

Recently I finished:

The walking dead
Breaking bad
Homeland
Under the dome
Game of thrones

Any suggestions on shows old or new that I should be watching?

I've heard falling skies is decent but I've read some mixed reviews, thoughts?

Basically Politics; Spacey play's a congressman who has been betrayed so this leads to him and his wife wanting to take revenge on those that stabbed them in the back and they often end up using people for their own agenda.

It's an awesome show and Spacey play's a really awesome manipulative character!

The West Wing is excellent, the full box set tends to be fairly cheap to buy, also fairly obvious choices but if you have not seen the Sopranos or the Wire they are both brilliant shows

It took me a while to watch and get into The Wire, loads of friends told me it was better than The Sopranos so I decided I was going to hate it irrespective of what it was like as I am a bit of a Sopranos obsessive. So whilst it is true that it is not as good as The Sopranos and the last series is a bit all over the place it is an excellent show and definitely worth watching.

the problem with HBO shows there never shown much on tv to give you a taste where you might go out and buy the whole box set and when you do the box sets are normally pretty pricey

mates just given me first season of homeland that i never got into first time around, heard thats decent

i didnt watch prison break first time around, but did start watching it on netflix last year. ended up stopping some point in season 2, think it would have been better watching it first time round so you didnt know it was going to drag on for 4 seasons and that i knew they broke out.

knowing stuff like that, even knowing 3 season they went back in to some prison through adverts on sky kind of spoilt it for me. also heard it tailed off so wasnt too fussed about carrying on, didnt think it was particularly great like every body had said

Just started watching "The Blacklist" with a fat bald James Spader (didn't recognise him at first). His character turns up at FBI headquarters and hands himself in (he's one of their top ten most wanted). Says he wants to help the FBI catch a load of bad guys and will only deal with a rookie agent that he seems to know far too much about.

All pretty good so far but I'm sceptical that it will veer off into the land of improbable b*llocks.

I did the same with The Following that's why I'm pretty sure it will fade badly. Ashamed to say that for all it's good reviews I simply cannot get into Boardwalk Empire and have given up after a few episodes of season 1. I caved into peer presssure and stuck with Breaking Bad when everything else told me to ditch it and whilst I did enjoy it, I spent most of my time waiting for the "WOW" moment. Much prefer The Walking Dead which has had some really great episodes

boardwalk does start really slow, but i actually didnt mind that a series took its time developing characters for a change, first series was nothing special but it does really kick into life for series two and three. i would still recommend sticking with it. similar to breaking bad in that its a slow burner to start. series four has reverted and been slow again, but 5 will probably benefit from the setting up 4 did

things like walking dead and sons of anarchy much more easier to get into as they pretty chuck you in the deep end from episode one.

Life is too short for sticking with stuff for three series to see if it gets better. I'm, a child of the MTV generation and demand things to be loud, flash, crass, in-ya-face, to have little or no artistic merit and a fair helping of nudity. I appreciate there's plenty of nudity within most programmes these days but I do still demand a bit more bang for my buck

BANSHEE - now I like that. It's ridiculously OTT and doesn't spend too much time faffing around with character development.

Is that the one with Timothy Olyphant?

I started watching it, got halfway through one episode, my hard drive corrupted and when it came to replacing stuff, the thought never entered my head to download it again.

What would this theme be...that it's got lots of nudity in but angry females being offended on behalf of all women for centuries of male oppression (therefore clearly not my fault or at leat not all of it) decided to get all Millie Tant on my a$$ and decided that I'm not allowed to appreciate the greatest of all God's creations...naked women young beautiful big breasted naked women?

You may have a point

Is anyone watching Hostages on Channel 4?

Watched the first couple & thought, looks terrible & woeful acting. Kept watching & well it's turned out to be a great series. Should of never had doubted Jerry Bruckheimer who directs it. Thoroughly enjoyable, exciting & tense. Good cliffhangers at the end of the episodes too. People should take a look.  thumbsup

For sitcoms, I always go with:

Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Parks and Rec, Community. Archer is also good. Then the usual standard shots of Arrested Development and The Office.

The programme only I seemed to have liked was Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip

Would recommend Brooklyn 99 to anyone. Very good and very funny show. Still fairly early in the series on E4 too, not that it takes too long to catch up to where things are.

Dexter was also very good. Was on Netflix last time I looked. Series 4 is up there with the best single series of TV I've seen.

Starting watch helix online I believe it's on syfy, this an excellent show, lots of mystery and intrigue yet at the same time the pace is relentless. I've only watched 5 episodes of the 1st season yet multiple characters you would assume are nailed on for the long haul are remorselessly killed off at will. A very good watch and would strongly recommend.

Yeah, was watching that but then channel 5 stopped it after like 6 episodes or something n said it was moving to five*. havent heard anything since, they said end of 2014? thought it was decent, easy watch that had more to give. i heard jeri ryan (seven of nine) was going to be the lab owner in the second part of the series.

Yeah, just stopped after like six episodes, apparently coming back end of year. Agree, wasn't the greatest but it had something intruiging about it n we were left on a cliffhanger.

I think it gets better with time, it's a bit of a slow burn. There's an obvious conspiracy theory in the background that's yet to be revealed.

It's one of those shows that answers one question and at the same time asks another two. I've been watching it online and there's 10 episodes available of season one so far.

think ive been scarred from shows like this ever since lost. dont mind if there key twists but some shows have them just to confuse the viewers, even when they make no sense (lost being the prime culprit)

Give Love/Hate a shot.

Again like the majority of shows, the first series is a bit "meh". It was heavily criticised by the papers etc at the time because the lads in the gang are a bit too "pretty" to be believable. But the 2nd and 3rd series more than make up for it. Very funny, loads of hits etc.

Episode 1 of Series 3 is probably one of the best hours of telly I've seen when the lads get involved with the IRA.

Continuum is a good watch. In Vancouver in 2077 a group of terrorists about to be executed escape through a time jump. A female cop, CPS agent Kiera Cameron, who sees them get pieces of the device out ends up with them when trying to intervene. When the terrorists start to commit crimes in 2012 Kiera ends up joining the Vancouver PD by making them believe she's an expert on the group from a secret agency.

She also has tech in her head which includes a Terminator style HUD and microphone/earpiece that in the future is used by the police (or CPS) to communicate to base control and in 2012 allows her to communicate with the 17-year-old version of the man, who is described as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Warren Buffett rolled into one, through his advanced super computer. Also whoever is at the computer she is wirelessly connected to can see through her eyes.
