CLEVELY BELLEW OFF
Bellew fails to make weight.
Clev now fights Alesky Kuziemski.
I'm just glad they didn't get some East European no mark that no ones ever heard of in and try to charge us 15 knicker for it. Oh hang on...

Re: CLEVELY BELLEW OFF
How could bellew take the fight knowing he was over 182lbs??? Why wasn't his weight checked before he was officially announced as an opponent? Yet another embarrassment for the sport. DeGale v Groves had better be bloody good.

Pretty gutting seeing Bellew not making weight. Watching the press conference just now and I love it when fighters seem to genuinely dislike each other.
Where does the animosity between them come from?

I have my fingers crossed since I'm not in on Saturday night, but with it being so late in the day? Doubt it. £15 for a probable one-sided 'world' title fight and a couple of up and comers.
I was just wondering about Bellew since I read on here about how it was a grudge match.

.................
Bellew lost in and said lets go now you fu***** rat when Cleverly said i'll take you outside now, dont blame him either, Bellew's got balls he was there to fight he may of thought he was under bathroom scales and the BBBofC scales are different.

So there was nothing before the press conference? I wasn't sure if they had an amateur history with each other or something. Thanks for clearing it up.

Kuziemski is ranked 11 by the WBO, has a 23-2 record with just 5 wins coming via KO, and he is aged 34. Think we can safely say he fits the bum/journeyman mould.

I dunno, a certain amount of 'banter' is expected, but in losing his rag like that Bellew made himself look classless.

On the face of it 23-2 doesn't sound so bad, but it's the age and the KO% that gives it away.

23-2 and still ranked 11th probably says something as well about the standard of his opposition?

I agree with him, if someone said to me i'll take you outside i'd say do it here, especially if i was a pro unknown, he's a winner anyway everyone knows who he is now, after agreeing to step in wouldn't surprise me if he knew he was over the weight and just agreed to fight for publicity. Cleverly's fighting a bum now though so were the real losers

Yep. And who has he been fighting? Well I can tell you his last two opponents had won just one fight between them in their previous ten fights.

Bellew is certainly in the map now. It would be embarassing if he lost his next fight though.

Re: CLEVELY BELLEW OFF
Clev will be told to carry his sorry backside for a few rounds to make it more palatable to the poor sods that shell out 15 quid for a card where the highlight is a grudge match between two rookies.
I haven't bought it yet and wont bother now either. Think some of the pubs have it on so will take advantage and go out for the degale groves fight and forget the rest.

I don't know a thing about him other than I can't spell his name, but it doesn't bode well for him does it, when he's been KOd by a guy who's equally unknown, and both times he's lost have been stoppages. Add in that Warren has probably had a hand in his selection, and we all know who HE'S going to be backing... Call me cynical but the words 'hand-picked Euro journeyman' spring to mind.
But, I like be totally wrong.

Cynical, I think you are talking rubbish. Kuziemski is a beast who will hand Cleverley his backside. You are totally wrong.
Actually I am lying. Like you Balti, I can't claim to be an expert on this guy but it does not bode well. Such a shame as Braehmer or even Bellew would have held more interest but this one is hard to get excited by. I hope Groves v Degale is a British classic, up there with the likes of Kaylor v Christie, then we might not be left with such a bad taste in the mouth!

Re: CLEVELY BELLEW OFF
It just smacks unfortunately of the stereotypical eastern European journeyman. I'll have a look see of I can find the guy on YouTube, see if I'm right.

Re: CLEVELY BELLEW OFF
cleverly is very unlucky- he didnt get the chance to win the belt as he would have liked and now his first defence is meaningless too. he's wasted a lot of his career around this fight.

Re: CLEVELY BELLEW OFF
Is it just me that thinks this Bellew thing was a bit of a set up to promote Cleverley's next fight?
Warren brings him in knowing the weight is an issue but he'll be considered a half decent replacement fighter, he makes the press conference look interesting then the weight is a problem so they bring in a journeyman.
Then after this fight it will be announced that Cleverley will fight Bellew next as they really dislike each other and have 'history'.

Re: CLEVELY BELLEW OFF
I totally agree - Bellew was never going to make the weight. They let get as far as the press conference purely to build up hype in a potential future all british grudge match. To be fair I think it worked, after watching it I was looking forward to the fight more than when Cleverly was going to fight Braehmer! There is the risk though that the promoters are going to take these little peices of theatre too far, and ultimately increase negative press in a sport that is already in the news for all the wrong reasons!huw wrote:Is it just me that thinks this Bellew thing was a bit of a set up to promote Cleverley's next fight?
