CL Last 16
First topic message reminder :
Some cracking games this week, Barca/City and Bayern/Arsenal. Can't see past Bayern and Barca wins. Pellegrini has said he'll attack Barca and I say do so at your peril. This may not be the Barca side from 2010-2012 but its still a very very good side with players in form currently, namely Fabregas, Sanchez and with a returning Messi back in the goals. There's a chance that if they go in with two strikers that they could get torn to pieces. I think against Barca you have to play a 5 man midfield. They keep the ball too well and will just pass their way through you.

Yeah, they really do look like a better version of Barcelona with more variety to their game. Nice Ox he drives it past three defenders and gets taken down in a dangerous position should be a card but just a free kick.

Nice header off the corner by Giroud. We could have an advantage in the air on them.

Alaba is just cutting us up from left back. Move Ox out on that side and move Ozil in the middle so that Ox can help Sagna, right now its Sagna against Ribbery and Alaba. But then who helps Arteta in the middle?

Schzeny suspended and gibbs, monreal, wilshere, ramsey, walcott, kallstrom all injured and yet we are drawing 1-1 in Germany against the best team in the world.

Bayern Munich proving exactly what wenger said, they are diving about the pitch. Good on the ref for not bailing out these ballerinas.

A team by the way that has not lost in 49 matches in league. This Munich side is the best club side I have seen in years and you can bet your arse they will be happy to not see the Arsenal again.

Arsenal clearly the best side in the second half and Munich flopping about the pitch. Someone put a dress on these big tough European champions.

Yeah it's amazing how quickly things turn.
Decent performance from Arsenal tonight if you look purely at this game out of context but Bayern were only ever in 2nd or 3rd gear and Arsenal had too many players missing/not 100% fit to ever trouble them.

Missing our top goal scorer from last year, our best player his season, our starting keeper and playing on the road against the European champions we did damn well. We were the better team in the second half and had the best chances. When at even strength against Munich we are pretty close to them. That penalty for Robben was ridiculous. The guy is a wonderful player but he had about 3 or 4 dives tonight that were almost laughable and finally one of them resulted in a penalty.

Fabianski was top class bar a few kicks out of play. It was a penalty Koscielny was in a hurry to get the ball back late on but clipped his ankles and he was always going down at that point shouldn't have given him the chance.

Wasn't a penalty for my money in anyway. Did you not see Robben's Greg Lougainis act tonight the guy was pathetic.

It's a penalty all day long regardless how he went down there was contact if you expect him not to go down then your being optimistic doesn't matter thought was saved. Yes i saw it Martinez weren't much better.

bayern played at 50% tonight, they knew they just needed to keep it tight yet they still were the better team for most of the game
arsenal fans can whinge about players all you want, but you were out played over two legs and the best team went through. even with a full team the same would have happened

Don't get me wrong Munich deserved to go through and were the better side. But at even strength we weren't that far off of them, considering that our team is rattled with injuries while Munich for the most part was healthy and playing at home. I can tell you this Munich will be damn happy to be done with the Arsenal. This was no cakewalk of a tie.

I never claimed Munich didn't deserve to go through or weren't the better side. I will say that the gunners acquitted themselves well against a team that has won 22 or its last 25 CL ties. By the way 2 of those 3 ties they didn't win were against the mighty and famous Arsenal. We fought hard and it wasn't enough against the best club team in the world. I am proud of the boys despite going out of the tournament.

have to disagree, i got the impression bayern were just cruising through in 2nd gear. they knew they were safe. you had probably a good ten minutes after the goal but even then neuer was barely worked. you needed to score 3 after bayerns goal and barely created any chances

We created more in the second half than Bayern did, unless you think Robben diving about the pitch like a sissy creating something. Bayern deserved to go through but when we were at even strength against them in this tie the score is 1-1 with a mesut ozil missed penalty. Hardly domination in anyway.

Olly where is all this hostility coming from. Did you not see his numerous dives tonight? seriously did you think he didn't go down easy on multiple occassions. Don't get me wrong let me be clear, Bayern deserved to go through. But we gave them a fight and Robben was a pathetic diver tonight do you disagree with this conclusion, and if so why?

He was fouled, it was a penalty.
Arsenal have played well at Bayern twice. They've also done it under about as much pressure as I'd expect them to turn up and play well in against a cruising team.
I know you're North London sides, but please don't get to Tottenham levels of delusion.

Just come back from the Calderon. Two minutes in and Costa's Cantona impersonation got the crowd going. Milan then equalised and Atleti fell apart mentally for 15 minutes. A fortuitous goal from Turam but then the confidence grew after the break and the goals came easily enough.
Fingers crossed for Olympiakos. That's the best Atletico can hope for the quarters.
