Farrell is a tout?
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/international/england/10663934/RFU-investigates-after-one-of-Owen-Farrells-tickets-for-Ireland-game-is-sold-on-website-for-440.htmlTorygraph wrote:RFU investigates after one of Owen Farrell's tickets for Ireland game is sold on website for £440
"Fly-half 'had no knowledge' of sale after passing on ticket in good faith, but Twickenham acts in purge on touting "
So if he isn't, who is?
I despise touts and if Mr Who couldn't go to the game, I bet he could have passed it on for free.
Good on the RFU for investigating, btw.
[ed] Apparently Farrell is a tout's supplier come what may. However culpable he may be in his intentions and actions.

Should name and shame the person who Farrell gave the ticket to. Not Farrell's fault that one of his friend's succumbed to greed. It's pretty outrageous that he would do that. It's a breach of trust.
Farrell should be peed off with his friend. It damages Farrell's credibility.

Friend or family member. Somebody close to Farrell let him and England down.beshocked wrote:Should name and shame the person who Farrell gave the ticket to. Not Farrell's fault that one of his friend's succumbed to greed. It's pretty outrageous that he would do that. It's a breach of trust.

I wonder how the ticket was marketed. Was the identifier "England Team", "Owen Farrell" used to boost the asking price? That's the one I'd look into.

Beshocked is right here. Farrell should name the person and them have nothing to do with him/her any more.

Re: Farrell is a tout?
Yes you are right. It could be a family member though I think it would be harder to imagine a relative selling the ticket.
More likely a friend ignorant of the value of the ticket given to them.
It's simple - if you can't go, give the ticket back to the person who gave you the ticket or find someone that can go (with the permission of the ticket holder of course
Must have been quite awkward on the day with the Irishman likelihood sitting with Owen's friends and family.
Farrell is a tout's supplier? Any evidence to support that allegation?

IF...he's content that the person he names wouldn't implicate him, or be capable of doing so. You might have a very good reason for not naming names if the name you might mention would fight back with a story of their own.

To be honest I am surprised the journalists haven't worked out the name, age, gender, height, occupation of the recipient of the ticket yet!
Well actually majesticimperialman I mean the papers should name and shame. Not Farrell.
It's up to Farrell if he wants to keep a friendship or not.

The basic thing is that touting is a curse beneath contempt.
In general ticketing, I'd favour a 'ticketless' turnstyle in which the original purchaser has to access via swiping his/her original credit card.

Touts are normally nasty pieces of work as well especially at music concerts and the ones I bought my Croke Park tickets for Ireland v Wales were no better as they looked and acted like total junkies

And you gave them business - the only way we will give them to is to stop using them.
As for Farrell either he names the individual or he receives a hefty punishment

Re: Farrell is a tout?
I remember a very shapely, quite striking young woman tout once hand me a ticket straight from her tight jeans crotch. Her hand went all the way in, and the ticket came all the way out.
It was warm and I didn't know what ticket I'd bought or where I was going. I was dizzy.
Still have the Golden ticket! (not really) - but that was one Willy Wonka Factory excursion to remember!
So hands off touts!!! Leave them be - and every single one of you have bought at least one ticket from one tout or you're all very very young.

To be fair we all paid the same amount and my brother was behind the goals sitting, my mate was in the standing part behind goals and I was sat about 5 yards from the 22 with all the Irish elite so it was a winner for megeoff999rugby wrote:Steffan wrote:Touts are normally nasty pieces of work as well especially at music concerts and the ones I bought my Croke Park tickets for Ireland v Wales were no better as they looked and acted like total junkies

Slap on the wrist (stop him getting tickets for a couple of games) and warn him to be more careful in future.
Can't believe some people are so strongly criticising touts and then admitting to using them - you can't have it both ways surely?

We all hate touts (on principle)
... because they charge so much (in practice)
... if they were more reasonable (in practice)
... they'd be quite nice people (in principle)

Tactical error by Lancaster becomes solid chants from fans for him to be dropped as coach as it is found out that (statistically!!!!), had Farrell been playing, England would have won 39 -14.

Re: Farrell is a tout?
I have had history with touts, and I cannot understand how they are not illeagal, after all the price is on the ticket, how can it be leagal to sell them for more than what they are valued at, anyway, back in my younger days, I used to watch the first few minutes or just the anthems in the City Arms or the Model Inn in Cardiff then go and find a tout and offer him half the amount for a ticket, we would barter for a few minutes and I would threaten to walk away but in the end I would have the ticket for the price I wanted to pay rather than the tout being left with a ticket and no money.

I think we have our answer. Farrell obviously gave the ticket to his best mate George Ford. George found out he was in the squad and didn't need it any more. He then began to mull over how to put the situation to productive use...

In that case, Scratch, why shouldn't all tickets all be allocted by auction by the host club/union in the first place?
That would maximise profits for them.
But I fancy would raise a bit of angst amongst the hoi palloi as well as V2ers.

Re: Farrell is a tout?
No. Why don't ticket sellers simply hold a percentage of tickets back for sale on the day itself - always. Walk up to a booth - buy.
Some people just make decisions on a whim...the don't hover over computer screens for hours trying to get two tickets behind a pillar because they are all excirah and delirah. They're casual, they've lived too long, they hate the rat race, they just want to decide on the moment or during the week that they'd like to go.
Just withold a percentage of tickets - always. There will always be people wanting some - always.

That would be disastrous. It would favour nearby locals and encourage swamping of the box-office. And might require riot control in some cases.SecretFly wrote:No. Why don't ticket sellers simply hold a percentage of tickets back for sale on the day itself - always. Walk up to a booth - buy.

what a non-story. worst punishment he could get is not getting any more matchday allocations for a while.
and the RFU already said they are satisfied Farrell did nothing wrong so they obviously know who he gave the ticket to.
yawn...is it that time already?

You claiming he sold direct to a tout? - then he definitely should be punished.
I was assuming he gave a ticket to a mate who did the dishonourable thing

Re: Farrell is a tout?
It's not a non-story but there's no draconian punishment to be meted out.
Farrell must bear responsibility for his guests. One of them has let him down, whether through greed or thoughtlessness. The RFU ought to fine him and/or suspend ticket privileges.
What's mystifying about this case is the fact the ticket was apparently clearly marked "Owen Farrell" and "England". Either the guest was incredibly thick, or else he/she didn't give a fig for their friendship because it was so easy to trace back to source.
It's highly likely the story was broken by the tout (after the match was over) to embarrass the RFU, especially since they have a hostile realationship with each other.

Don't know why people need to tout...I've always got my Twickenham tickets through official channels at face value. Only time I paid over the odds was the 2007 WC semi in Paris when I got tickets from some kiwi fans in the rugby village for a modest markup.

Owen????? How many tickets did you actually get from the RFU?????
