Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
so the draw started unbalanced with nadal, wawrinka, federer and murray all in one half. and now djokovic´s half finds itself without delpo, berdych and tsonga...

Highest seed left in Djokovic's half is Gasquet at 8.

Yeah well the Australian Open was imbalanced and Djokovic didn't come through there so. At the the end of the day, we are talking about two of his six matches tops

Andy Murray off to a good start. He breaks Vesely straight away and holds serve to love to lead 2-0.

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
Murray again doing his best to throw his opponent a lifeline. Had a double break in the first set and threw them away and now on tie-break and Vesely looks in control. The Czech playing well whilst Murray still hasn't worked out a game plan yet and Vesely seals the first set 7-6.

Tough for Murray being asked to win points rather than gain them through manoeuvered errors.

Sorry but this just isn't good enough Andy. Now a break down in the second set.

Or perhaps it is more to do with far too many unforced errors? No?

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
I was thinking the two weren't completely unconnected. He is playing crap, but how much of it is because his opponent gives him nothing? Vesely is doing nothing, just giving him more awkward balls to play. Very Murray-like to some extent actually.CaledonianCraig wrote:bogbrush wrote:Tough for Murray being asked to win points rather than gain them through manoeuvered errors.

Must credit Vesely as well though. He is hitting with great length and depth and must be considered that he is probably in form of his like as he currently stands at his highest ever ranking.

He's a complete pain to play like this and not much to watch though.

Aggression is the key here for me. Murray needs to shake off his passiveness and go on the attack. If he does that and goes for more winners and approaches the net more he can turn this around.

Murray hangs in there and turns it around to take the second set 6-4. Still way off the pace though and must do better.

That's more appropriate than I think you meant. It's what happens when rope-a-doping obviously won't pay off and attacking has to happen on a slow bouncy surface.Rightjugeiam wrote:is this WTA or what?
Garbage, basically.

Well regardless of the result here on this form Andy isn't a threat to win the tournament. He needs a big win but where does it come from on this form?

Vesely up a break in the decider just throwing down huge serves. Murray does not look in good form at all.

And the kid gives the break back with a double fault serving 4-3 and up a break. It will be tough for him to hold Murray off now.

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
If Murray pulls through here it will be down to his doggedness. He is just far too inconsistent just now.

Murray comes through, not sure how, but he must up his consistency on all facets of his game. Credit to Vasely I am sure we will see more of him in the coming years.

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
Vesely is garbage, seriously, the guy can't hit an attacking shot.
This was just a big exaggeration of what I hate about the game now; no-winner tennis on an abysmally slow court decided by who was least error prone.

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
Only real positives for Murray were he managed to stay in the match while playing poorly and he won. Apart from a couple of games his service was pretty poor and for one who doesn't normally hit a large amount of unforced errors it was surprising how many he hit. Luckily Vesely was missing too at vital stages. As CC said earlier I think he really needs a win against one of the top guys as he just doesn't seem to have the confidence in his game at the moment.

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
The consistency isn't there at the moment and there are far more unforced errors in his game than we are used to seeing. He got the win today by sheer bloody mindedness.

Roger quietly doing what needs to be done. Tursanov is a decent a tricky opponent so any straights win is a good day at the office

Just got home and I see the result of Wawrinka vs Seppi. Did anyone see it? Was Stan that good or was Seppi that poor?

I saw one point of the match as I turned the TV on as a kind of check what match was on. I can happily report to you that Warwinka was totally awesome. In that one point.
Perhaps SB you'll join me here in rooting for Dolgopolov, my second favourite player. Like to see his combination of variety and aggression. I imagine it will be frustrating to see Rafa just dumping the ball back into court until Dolgo misses.

Hehe, good to hear Stan was awesome - at least in one point.
Yeah, rooting for Dolgo tonight. So far so good. Really silly to use up all his challenges before the third game was done but it did not cost him in the end.

Stan has been awesome for a while now, was desperately unlucky to lose in 5 vs Nole at the USO
wonder how high he can go?

So what's the deal with that name? Judge Lam / i am ??
Was it you who did an article in about 2010-2011 where you did some logical number crunching of odds and said it was extremely likely that Murray would win at least 1 slam at some point? Are you a Murray fan (don't recall)?

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
yes it was me that wrote the piece saying Murray was 95+% likely to win at least one slam, after he had last 2 finals I believe, not really/particularly a Murray fan apart from being British and now he has won Wimbledon it's all a bit meh
RightjudgeIam was a saying an old fella in the bookies used to say out loud every time he had a winner (50p win fav every bet) as in:
"I just had that winner I did. RightjudgeIam"
has to be done in a thick Yorkshire accent with all the syllables running into each other

Oh, I get it, I think I always thought it was Lam with a L! Yes, you were right about Murray, and no such luck for the 606 WUMs.
Where is everyone? Come on you UK based folks, Dolgopolov-Nadal not worth staying up till 3am? Honestly.

it really wasn't that difficult a calculation if you put prejudice aside and just look at the odds given he had been in 2 slam finals, won back to back MS 1000s and was in the top 4

Re: Indian Wells 2014 - 10 March
Well biggest win of his career? Maybe. How about the 5-set wins over Tsonga and then Soderling at the AO 2011 to reach the QF. That was at a slam, and real breakthrough wins when he was ranked lower, and younger.
