BBC Ultimate G.O.A.T Compilation Empty BBC Ultimate G.O.A.T Compilation

The BBC have compiled the stats of all the biggest names in F1 throughout the years, as well as a number of lesser ones. They have applied the current points system to everyone's careers, as well as looking at win ratios, pole positions, points per race and titles won.

A few obvious outcomes, as well as some surprising ones.

Schumacher, Fangio, Senna & Vettel: Can Stats Find the Greatest?

Obviously everyone has their own idea of what defines "greatness", but I think these stats are important in highlighting drivers' achievements in a way that levels the playing field between the different eras. Still some skewing due to things such as increased reliability of cars, number of teams/cars, number of races per season etc. but in terms of pure stats, I think its probably the best comparison I've seen so far.

Things like talent or "genius" - the ability to wring extra performance out of a car, pull off outrageous manouvres or master a circuit, weather conditions etc. are rather more difficult to quantify.
