R.I.P. Mickey Duff
Terribly sad news being reported that hall of fame promoter Mickey Duff has passed away. Before Warren and before Hearn Duff was the man in British promoting. Was a very knowledgable boxing man who worked with pretty much every British fighter of note from the 70s and 80s in some capacity. A sad loss to the sport.

Had a lot of respect for this guy..One of the best cornermen I've ever seen and a brilliant matchmaker for his fighters..His work with Honey against Curry was excellent and his matchmaking for Mugabi was top draw...
RIP...

Well said truss. Different generation guys like Duff, could promote, match make and work a corner. Pity to see that much knowledge gone

Adam Booth is the closest corner man to him..Calms his Man down and reassures coolly..
Much rather have a cool head than a Dundee in my corner..
Favorite line Hagler- Mugabi rd 9.."Congratulations John you just got back in the fight"

Re: R.I.P. Mickey Duff
A name woven into the tapestry of British boxing. I only remember him from watching boxing on terrestrial TV as a kid so I don't know much about his dealings in the business side of things but I knew he was big time. He knew his stuff and I remember him working the corner in some big fight.
RIP. A true hall of famer.

Grew up with lawless and duff, both now sadly departed. A proper character Mickey, and as has been said promoter, manager and corner man. You've got to love anyone named after their coat.
Rip Mickey, thanks for the memories.

Re: R.I.P. Mickey Duff
Just found out the news.I was watching a dvd of Howard Winstone two nights ago,and there he was! I thought that he was underacknowledged in recent years. He did face criticism for the pace that he pushed his fighters into a title shot, which seems particularly snail-paced by today's standards..apparently a tough guy under that harmless looking exterior as well. He'll be missed.

RIP Mickey Duff.
Big part of British boxing in the 70's and 80's. I hope he gets a fitting tribute in boxing maybe the bell will toll ten times before the Froch v Groves fight.

Another good line from that fight was "Listen to the Father John". Duff had hired a priest to help in Mugabi's corner.TRUSSMAN66 wrote:Adam Booth is the closest corner man to him..Calms his Man down and reassures coolly..

Re: R.I.P. Mickey Duff
Was giving Honeyghan some good advice between rounds against Starling too, Truss. Luckily for Marlon, Lloyd wasn't listening.
In all seriousness, Duff was a great character and did a hell of a job with most of his fighters. Always liked his quote when he was asked about his personal relationship with Honeyghan in light of the rumours that they basically couldn't even be in the same room as each other without falling out - "There's nothing in our contract which says we have to like each other."
