Delpo out for season - official
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/26711930
It's been mentioned before I think, but may have got lost an another thread.
Unusual that his left wrist also requires surgery. I would have thought that the force of the backhand shot would be shared between both wrists. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe his backhand is slightly unorthodox?
In any case, a huge setback for the big man. He's starting to remind me of Krijacek, who was rarely at full fitness, often with prolonged breaks. Very disappointing as I enjoy watching him play.

Such a shame. I was hoping for a fit Delpo this season to make headways in the rankings and maybe win some big titles.
You wonder where this latest setback will leave him going forwards.
Get well soon big man!

Very disappointing development. His absence is bad news for the tour, and yes, you can't help but wonder just where this will leave him, after so much time out already in what is a limited career span.
He turns 26 later this year, and the USO triumph of his 'youth' (and the expectations that it brought) must seem a long way behind him right now. He has never really been able to recapture the momentum to threaten since at a Slam - the thrilling SF v Djokovic at Wimbledon last year (match of the tourney for me) being about the only major highlight. Okay, he has picked up several low-key titles along the way but otherwise has not really fulfilled his considerable potential.
Here's hoping things work out and we get to see more from him.

A real blow to the big man. He had worked hard to recover in the rankings and become a real contender again and now this. I wish him a full recovery and hopefully he can rebuild a career that is threatening to fall apart.

I'm really disappointed by this. When on form, he's one of my favourite players to watch. By all accounts, he's a really nice guy too.
I wonder if it is just bad luck or whether there is an underlying weakness in his wrists? I guess it would seem unlikely that he would develop that style of play if he felt a weakness there in the past.

This is such a shame, the tour will miss him and so will the fans. Here's hoping for a full recovery, but there are big question marks now. Poor Delpo

Still to bear in mind if you offered most players his career, including all the injuries, most players would take it, provided that the injuries won't affect his life in general after retiring.
I don't know enough about his specific situation but I wonder if his team would consider some kind of shorter season just playing maybe about 12 tournaments if that's needed to stop this being a cycle. Although, that would mean trying to make some kind of agreement with the ATP and the Masters Series. Then again, I don't know whether that would make any difference.

iC is probably very disappointed as well. I will miss the "gentle giant" on the tour, despite his proclivities.

@ LF, life at time is sad and difficult, I am pretty sure the Gentle Giant of the Tennis will fight back and make a return.
Its a huge set back considering how much effort and hard work he put in to get back to his level of 2009 and now this happens, morally he gonna be very down, but life will be full of testing moments and I am pretty sure he is aware of it and will make an even bigger comeback.
You Rock Del Po, take care of your wrist as of now.

“Hi everyone, here I am, still sore from the surgery,” Del Potro wrote on Facebook. “Luckily everything went well. Thank you very much for the nice messages you are sending me. Here’s a picture with Dr. Berger and Franco [Davin, his coach].”

It would be good to to see him fighting fit in 2015. He has done it before.

It must be demoralising for him though. He has certainly been unfortunate, here's hoping this is the last hurdle for him.
