Overall: Look to play a territorial game with the boots of our half back pairing playing a key role. Aim to keep Sale penned back in their half and look to build a platform off the line out.

Scrum: Set the scrum quickly and try to exert pressure on the Sale with our strong front row backed up by the All Black Unit. Lobbe to control the scrum at 8.

Lineout: Look to make full use of a dominant  unit with Whitelock calling. Whitelock,
Romano, Lobbe and Haskell will offer solid options. Look to mix it up and also have a go at snatching opposition ball

Breakdown: Not looking to be over committed at the breakdown but if a turnover is possible then be aggressive. Gill will be supported Haskell and Healy at the breakdown

Defence: Agressive Banana Blitz Defence looking to put pressure on the half backs.
FDP to sweep in behind.

In attack we will be looking to play a simple game of rugby. Our forwards will look to carry the ball hard and direct with the likes of Ben T, Healy and Haskell able to tuck It under their jumper and try and pierce a hole through the Sale defence. Nonu and Nalaga especially will also be used as a crash ball option. FDP will use his experience to dictate his decision making, looking to switch up the point of attack and with Hodgson will control our tempo. We have the big boots of Hodgson and FDP and they will look to use these in order to gain territory and increase pressure on Sale. They will mix up their kicking.

Bench: We have named A very strong bench. The front row will come on and look to really up the ante in the scrum. Kitchener will come on early and look to add grit and use him aggressively in lineout. Lydiate will only come on for the last 10 minutes and will look to impact game with tackling. Wiggles will come on and control game with experience. Hill and Cuthbert will look to get hands on ball and pressure Sale defenders.

16. Ross Harrison 17. David Paice 18. Martin Moore 19. Christian Day 20. Matt Kvesic 21. Ben Spencer 22. Beauden Barrett 23. Semesa Rokoduguni

We will play a fast paced, high intensity offloading game using big carriers to get over the gainline and create space and quick ball for our halfbacks to use. Back three to get involved as much as possible.

- Real life form. Ayerza, Retalick, POM, Pickles, Care, Sexton & Barrett are amongst the best in the world on current form. Question marks over key players for Bath. Lobbe has played just twice since October & Nonu has one bench appearance this season.

- Target the scrum. Good technical front row supported by plenty of grunt will look to get on top and win penalties.

- Attack from the lineout. Five genuine jumping options allows us to mix it up and really use the lineout as an attacking platform. Look to get the ball to Sexton and Eastmond with space outside.

- Look to mix up play. Sexton & Eastmond to interchange at first receiver and change the point of attack. Care provides a threat snipping around the base.

- Attack the wider channels. We will look to take advantage of the Bath banana blitz, attacking dog legs and gaps in the wider channels. Sexton will look to use the wrap-around off Steyn in particular to attack the space and get in behind.

- Take Tomkins on the outside off set piece ball. Look to isolate Tomkins off set piece ball and have Fickou use his pace on the outside. Abendanon also to join the line and create 2v1s on Tomkins.

- Get the wingers involved. Zebo to track the ball off his wing looking for the inside ball or offload to get in behind the opposition defence while Eastmond will look to provide an extra playmaking option in the wider channels.

- Hit the breakdown hard. Look to our dynamic front five to clear the ruck and allow the likes of POM & Quedragao to really attack the breakdown.

- Straight line blitz defence focusing on a quick line speed to isolate the ball carrier before the gain line. Care to sweep in behind to cover chips and grubbers.

- Counter the Bath kicking game. Zebo & Abendanon to sit deep, with Pickles joining occasionally, when Bath are in possession in their own half to cover the Bath kicking game and run the ball back.

Exeter Chiefs vs Gloucester Rugby
Location - Sandy Park
Sunny Intervals, 10 Degrees, 13mph East North Easterly Winds

Manager – Fluxy

16. Jack Yeandle 17. Richard Barrington 18. Matt Stevens 19. Alistair Hargreaves 20. Will Fraser 21. Freddie Michalak 22. Toby Flood 23. Matt Tait

Key Points

  • Look to build a lead and not give away silly penalties. Keep the game in Glaws half look to play when in their half.
  • Make use of the home advantage and play the game at our pace
  • Parra will kick all points available, so this indicates that Glaws should be wary of giving away penalties.
  • Keep ball in hand and work the phases with our pack and centres.
  • Solid set piece look to pressure Steenkamp in the scrum and Robson in the line out both of whom lack form

Game plan

A few close games in the pasts weeks means that the we are carrying some real momentum into games and believing that we can beat anyway at the moment.
Selected a physically strong side to compete with the physicality of the Glaws side. In the decent conditions we will look to build phases to create quick ball. Inside our ten metre line we will look to kick in behind the back three to force them to turn and take a tackle from the the chase, or gain territory and pressure the line out. Withing their half we will play off Burns using him to put big runners either side of Cipriani and forcing him to tackle in defence. When we have produced quick ball from aggressive blow-outs in the ruck we will look for the numbers advantage or forwards in the defending line and exploit the lack of pace.
Every time we are in the opposition 22 we will look to at least leave with the three points to keep the score board ticking over and to build a lead.
Simple set-piece game which we look to dominate our own ball, and contest every opposition put in. The pack that has been selected is mobile and strong around the park, especially in the tackle, on the floor and ball in hand.

Attack

  • Parling will lead the line out and look to set rolling mauls to keep hold of possession and make Glaws give away penalties. Look to set the maul first then drive, and try to keep resetting the maul.
  • The forwards will look to make runs at Cipriani and Scott,
  • Pack filled big carriers to provide a number of options in the tight exchanges. Look to keep moving the point of attack with clever offloads and forward interplay. Look for forward pods outside the third guard in the line to really stretch their defences and get over the gain line to create momentum.
  • Parra is to dictate the pace of the game and control the flow. Burns will follow his lead and look to turn on the attack when needed, and help Parra with kicking duties.
  • Look to flood the breakdown and clear out bodies, to keep ball clean so that the halfbacks can dictate the game. (Eg AB's or Eng vs AB 2012 style) Doesn't mean we need to play an out and out seven if the whole side chips in at the breakdown
  • Selected an attack minded back line that like to keep ball in hand. We won't look to needlessly kick away possession - as they can't score without the ball!

Defence

  • We will use a Blitz drift line in defence to cut down Cipriani's options and push him inside towards our back-row.
  • Parra to sweep behind the defensive line, and to counter any loose kicks or turnover ball - either by quickly shipping it wide to the back three, or kicking in behind their back three. He will keep a close on Genia to prevent him from making any sniping runs.
  • The whole pack is mobile and capable of getting over the ball at the breakdown. Look to powerfully clear opponents out of the ruck, and use the strong tackling to keep chopping down the Gla wsrunners.
  • If we kick in behind their back-line or back three, we look to at least make them have to turn into an advancing black line which will not allow the receiver time to make decision or escape with clean ball. Every kick to be chased, the kick is as only as good as the chase.
  • Back three players are adept in the air and will look to mark the ball to perhaps draw a penalty from a late tackle.

Glos make several changes for the visit to Exeter. Qera is rewarded for his sparkling form for Toulouse and claims a starting place along with stooke, Mas,Steenkamp and heaslip in the forwards

Glos travel to sandy park looking to score points and targeting a BP win. However we realise we need to play our game first and win the battle before starting to score the tries.

Forwards

We have picked a mobile heavy pack with the aim of giving us go forward. We have configured the pack so that it is chock full of ball carriers to help us provide this quality ball.

Set  piece

In this weather we believe there will not be many scrums but if there is we have picked a lumpy front 5 with an all international front row so we
Can target the Exeter put in. We will aim to really disrupt their ball and affect the quality of their service.

On our ball we will look to use the scrum as a weapon where necessary and get a wheel on to allow us to either attack wide or pick up to tie in their backrow.

Lineout

We have 5 options and great darts from Strauss so will be using this as am attacking weapon. We will be keen to get the ball down and maul it forward and then hit our runners in to the burns channel.
We see this as a huge point to target. Burns can't get a start at ten for glos as mills is keeping him out and seems to be shattered at the moment.
We aim to add to this.

Both stooke and Robson  are hugely in form. Parling and Davies have not played for ages and cannot carry any form so we see the lineout and lock battle as a big plus to gloucester

As game progresses we will look to go off the top more and hit runners like Qera kuridrani etc all aiming for that 10 channel.

On their ball we will challenge and disrupt ball

General forwards

We will be looking to really carry the ball hard up the middle and try and get behind their pack to disrupt he defensive line.

We have ball carriers like heaslip, Qera, Steenkamp, Alberts and Strauss
Who will be looking to offload and keep the ball alive when it's on.

At the breakdown we will send numbers in and look to turn the ball over if it's on.
We have a huge backrow and think this could bring joy

Defensively we will be targeting the burns channel and Qera and co are on a mission to get at him off the back of scrums and rucks.
We want to get in his face and force mistakes.

Backs

The backs decide how much games are won by and we are aiming to rack up points through our back 3.

The spine of our team is strong and heaslip,Genia and Cips are there to dictate tempo. We
Will not be running everything but we will be running any good front football that looks on.

With may folau and Dagg we will look to counter any loose kick.

Cips will look to vary play and use folau and kuridrani to bosh it of necessary or use them as decoys to push it wide.

In our 22 unless there is an overlap Cips will play territory. Out side the 22 we will look to keep the ball and recycle it until we can find a weakness in the Exeter defensive line.

Cips to kick all goals and to attempt the cross kick with Exeter looking less assured in the back 3.

Blitz in defence with Genia sweeping.

Bench to be used to
Take the game away from Exeter

Tactics

Quick Tempo, ball retention and intensity in the contact.

When we are outside our 22 we will be concentrating on ball retention and tying in the Irish defenders before spreading the ball into the wider channels where we can exploit gaps in the opposition defence. We will first look to get over the gain line with our pack looking to carry off Pienaar and Cooper. We will look for them to carry in numbers to either offload out of the tackle or to recycle quick ball for our next phase. When we have tied in defenders we will look to get the ball into the wider channels where we will look to bring our three quarters into play. Key to getting the ball wide is getting over the gain line and in our pack and with Roberts at 12 we feel we have the men to get us across the gain line. Cooper will look to stand flat and put others into space as the run lines of either shoulder. We will look for the blindside wing to work off Cooper's shoulders to add another dimension.

Upfront we will look to be effective at the ruck needing no more than 3 men to recycle quick ball and again it is vital to get across the gain line in order to make the breakdown easier for us to get the quick ball we want.

At the set piece we will be looking for Marler to get underneath Jones and get the nudge on with assistance from Brits. We will look to shorten the line so Hooper and Easter can offer themselves as runners in the midfield. Look to play off the top when we are in the Irish half.

In defence we will look to employ a quick  line speed and really pressurise the Irish decision makers at 9 and 10. Look to double up in the tackle when we get the opportunity with one player trying to target the ball.

At the breakdown, look to get the first man their to effect the turnover or a penalty. Try to disrupt the Irish ball as much as possible.

Tactics:

SET PIECE
We have picked a scrummaging pack in good conditions and Hooper and McCarthy will provide grunt. We have four lineout jumpers and will keep it simple today, we will jack 2 up in their half on opposition ball.

BREAKDOWN
looking to control our BREAKDOWN and give Kockott time on the ball. Warburton and Wray will only compete if available but we will aim to fan out. In attack we will look for quick ball and play a pod system with the forwards takng on tight ball.

HALF BACKS
Controlled ball with good tactical players looking to use the conditions to their advantage, they will start with a tight game for three phases then spread. If it's not on we will look to pin them back with kicks to touch.

ATTACK
Plisson will stand flat giving Bell good ball to run onto and look for the offloads. Controlled with strong runners and will look for simple passes and our back three cutting back on inside shoulder at times, our pack will give options off of 10 and 12 to get over the gainline. We will look to use our strong carriers to get us over the gainline and recycle quick ball.

DEFENCE
Controlled and hard hitting. Look to snag 9 to stop quick ball and for Warburton and Wray to get into 10's face to stop quick ball, any high balls will be secured and kicked back into space or off the park, if it's on we run. Kockott will sweep.

BENCH
Strong impact with a strong front row replacements to come on and Higginbotham looking to run ball against tired legs. The bench can up the tempo with Dickson and Trinder playing heads up rugby in the last quarter to drag open a tired defence, Dickson will bring late control and game management.

OVERALL
Tight game initially keeping the weather in mind and look for quick ball and strong direct runners, take the points when available but back ourselves if it's on. We are getting into the run in of the end of  the season and want to get good form going with good international experience all over the park.

16. Rob Hawkins 17. Paul James 18. Ben Alexander 19. Sitaleki Timani 20. Tom Johnson 21. Nathan Fowles 22. Pat McCabe 23. Anthony Watson

Basic Game Plan
In dry conditions we will be looking to play a possession based game, going through the phases and continually shifting the point of attack.  We will play sensibly in our own half though, and will use the boots of Farrell, Lealiifano and Armitage if it is not on to run the ball.  When using the boot we will not be kicking for touch, but will be looking to keep the ball in play in behind the wingers, and ensuring that our kick chase is good and isolates their 11 and 14.

In defence, as always we will be running a blitz defence.  Our focus will be on the gainline collisions and driving back in the tackle.  Line speed and no dog-legs will be key components for us.  Smith will sweep in behind the defensive line to counter any chips/grubbers.

Specifics

  • Lineout.  On our ball we will mix things up, utilising all of a back 5 forwards.  We will at times go with a shortened line and use Steffon Armitage either on the crash ball off first phase or as a decoy in midfield.  We will use the driving maul from the lineout when close to the Saracens try line.  On their ball we will use Muller to man mark Matfield and the athletic Kolisi at the front of the line.
  • Breakdown.  When we carry in, we will flood the breakdown rucking well past the ball to free it up quickly and go again.  In defence, if we have made a passive tackle and the carrier has momentum we will not overcommit, but will maintain a strong defensive line.  If we win the collision and knock the carrier back we will look to get the second man in hard over the ball to turn it over.  Key for us is being selective.
  • Attacking Play.  We will be looking to play a Super Rugby type offloading game, with the ball shifted on to the support runner just prior to the point of the tackle with the defender already committed.  Smith to look to snipe around the fringes and keep us going forwards all the time.

Key Points

  • Home advantage.  Not much to say, we have it and as the season gets towards the business end these things make more and more difference.
  • Form.  I wasn’t going to single out Sarries players, but as Pooly has gone there with Corbisiero here goes.  Mealamu (30 minutes rugby since 16th Nov), Matfield (2 or 3 games since Nov 2011), Faletau (poor in the 6 nations), Benjamin (can’t even remember when he last played), Davies (out injured for ages and struggled to find form after Wales threw him back in v England), Lahiff (been terrible for the Rebels so far), Fearns (has he played this season?), Cook (3rd/4th choice for Bath), Steenson (dropped by the Chiefs), Lowe (out injured all year).  Not really a whole lot of form there.
  • Bench.  5 full internationals, including both props to bring on and close the game out in the final quarter.

Tactics:

TARGET SCRUM - CORBISIERO LACK OF FORM - Corbisiero hasn't played since November and had few games under his belt then, he's got little form to speak of. Also Corbs needs to be managed in the real world playing only handful of games each season, he turns out most games for Wasps on here. Look to get at Corb all game.

TARGET LINE OUT – Two outstanding operators in Matfield & FVDM and Henry/Faletau in the backrow. Look to turn the screw in the line out and put pressure on the BdP throw which can crumble under pressure (See Matfield last week v Sharks getting 2 steals). If weakness seen look to hit the corners and starve Wasps of ball.

WASPS LACK OF CREATIVITY 10-13 -Look to target the lack of running/creative ability in the Wasps 10-13 channel. Look to use rush defence to exploit that there is nobody to straighten the line and allow for the choke tackle or turnover.

CHOKE TACKLE – With the physicality in our backrow and centres we’ll look to hold up the Wasps runners and force the maul, allowing us turnover ball.

HUGE CARRYING OPTIONS - Loads of big carrying options to get us over the gain line and allow the backs to get into the game. Look to get options up at 1st and 2nd reciever at pace to draw in defence. Denton/FvdM/Faletau give us great options and varied carriers.

General - We've selected a team packed with power and physicality and will look to dominate the contact and get over the gain line. We'll be playing a high tempo physical game from the off, look to smash the opposition back and get into the rucks/maul's and drive through. We'll look to tie the opposition in and then get at their backline, more so in their half. Look to keep it tight in the forward pack and grind through work.

Scrum - Look to get a platform from the off with a strong scrummaging unit. Strong front 5 with big locks will look for the big push once the ball is in and drive the opposition back. Our LH and Hooker will look to target TH and try to get between him and Hooker to allow TH to work on LH If no weakness seen will use as restart.

Line out – Look for quick ball off the top with the world class line out options and experience. Will allow White good clean ball and have Denton/Burrell running off the 9 at angles.

Defence - High intensity and big hits, looking to drive past the ball player if the ball hits the deck. Huge physical pack that can look to dominate the collision and breakdown allowing Henry etc a chance to slow down/steal ball. Lack of straight running option in the opp backline will allow us to hold up the runner and attempt the maul turnover. Scrum half to sweep behind the defensive line.

Attack - Keep things simple in our own half then look to unleash backs in opp territory. Scrum half to inject pace from the breakdown and have JD on his shoulder. Huge carrying backrow to get us over the gain line after front 5 set a platform. Burrell to run angles off the 9/10 and interchange 2nd receiver with JD. Look to keep opposition guessing with clever lines through midfield. Ashton will look to track the midfield combo and get the end of JD’s little offloads in contact. Benjamin to keep things honest and come looking for work.[/b]

16. Rob Webber 17. Thomas Domingo 18. Henry Thomas 19. Samu Manoa 20. Sergio Parisse 21. Niko Matawulu 22. Weslie Fofana 23. Leigh Halfpenny

Tactics: Weather conditions perfect for attacking rugby. Will play our usual aggressive and physical style, but believe we have an advantage in terms of mobility and creativity in both the pack and backline and power out wide to score tries. We will play the game at a high tempo, looking for our big ball carriers in both the packs and backs to power over the gainline, an offloading game to get us into positions where we really test the Tigers defence. All international bench to make a big impact in final 20-25 minutes.

Setpiece: Return of Hartley, Launchbuiry and Lawes provides us with an excellent attacking platform - will look to launch Tuilagi at BOD in the midfield and work quick ball to attack outwide. Defensively Lawes to challenge for ball and disrupt Tigers throw. Due to conditions not as many scrums, but powerful scrummaging unit and Phillips to make a nusiance of himself around the base of the scrum.

Ball carrying/Win Collisions: Want to get our big carriers on the ball early on and get us on the front foot. For Ford then to take the ball flat and use his passing to bring in Tuilagi, Bowe and Savea as midfield battering rams to wear down the Tigers defence further.

Attack: Very mobile pack, which will allow us to play at a high tempo and get around the pitch and play a v attack minded game and secure a lot of ball. We believe that there will be opportuntiies to stretch Tigers defensively, as Wilko, Twelvetrees and BOD are'nt the quickest - so will look to play Ford flat and attack the gainline with Tuilagi, Savea or Bowe, suck in defenders and then go wide. Will look to make most of power and pace in the backline.

Breakdown: Will really target this area, our pack is very mobile and can throw in numbers to rucks when a turnover is on - Launchbury and Cane to target the ball, while the likes of Lawes, Vunipolas and Hartley can cause a real nuisance and disrupt/slow Tigers ball. With any turnover we are happy to attack Tigers from anywhere on the pitch.

Defence: Aggressive blitz defence with fast line speed, big hitters and aim to force handling errors and mistakes. Phiilips to sweep behind defensive line. Look to really target Twelvetrees and force him into mistakes, which he was prone to for England during 6Nations.

Territory: Ford and Giteau can help dictate the territorial battle, and Daly's boot at the back ensures we have a good way of clearing our lines. Will look to counter any loose kicks by Tigers and make sure we keep the tempo high.

Key points:
Playing a high tempo, due to more mobility in pack and pace in backline.
A lot of strong ball carriers to get us over the gainline & get good attacking ball.
Win the collisions and gainline battle.
Very strong bench to finish game strongly.

Tactics:

We will play to our strengths and play a game built around our intelligent HB's controlling the game and the power and strength of our side.

- Target Ford all game with Louw and Burger breathing down his neck at every opportunity. Big runners through his channel - looking to win the Wilko vs Ford contest.

- Attack at all scrums with our huge pack - Moore to look to really get into Hartley, with two huge props backed up by Pape and Horwill. An area we will look to target if winning.

- Attack at all lineouts. Use Joubert or Pape at the front and Horwill off the top as our three key options.
Shortened lineouts with Louw in midfield as crash or decoy option.

- Put serious pressure on Hartley's throws with Joubert at the front on all Saints' throws.

- Target the breakdown - huge emphasis on our work at the breakdown today and we will always look to turnover possession. With Louw and Burger, and the likes of BOD too, we feel our breakdown play could be crucial today.

- Gigantic pack made up of massive line-breakers, used in the tight to tire down the Saints defence. The likes of Louw, Pape, Burger, Moore and Horwill to be used to target the Saints 10/12 channel.

- In attacking play, we will look to get runners attacking the gain line looking for gaps. We do want to control the game, mixing up the point of our attack and looking for where the gaps are.

- In attacking play, we will play with the option of 2 first receivers in Wilko and Twelvetrees. We want to control the game, mixing up the point of our attack and looking for where the gaps are.

- We will look to employ a blitz defence, focusing on a quick line speed to hit the ball carrier before he gets to the gainline. We have aggressive forwards to carry out this instruction. Fotuali'i to sweep behind with an eye on short kicks.

- Wilkinson to kick all penalties.

Falcons to play a high tempo game based around plenty of carrys , strong set piece and a dangerous back line.

ATTACK: Our attack plan is based around moving the ball wide and getting our backs running at Worcester with Cruden standing flat in a attempt to bring the best of our backs out. Use our big forwards like Best , Slater , Le Roux , McCaw and Read to get us going and on the front foot. Cruden to keep a eye on the space behind the wing nudging the ball behind when they're is space.

DEFENCE: Aggresive defence around the ruck looking to disrupt Wuss ball and slow it down with a blitz operated in the wider channels. Youngs to sweep behind with the blindside wing helping cover deep kicks with Read hanging back.

SET PIECE:Ruthless at the scrum , look to push Wuss back and go through them. Mix it up on our throw going to anyone from 4-8 and using POC to target Wuss throw.

Tactics

Breakdown- Barclay and Ward to act as fetchers and chase the ball (thus also giving linkman options)
Rest of pack chipping in and clearing out, ESP backrow and locks
Don't overcommit unless ball can be turned over
Ward and Barclay have good cover on bench so go flat out and aim to sub off

Attack

In the light rain, look to alternate between kicking slow ball behind defensive line using low driven kicks to create an awkward bounce and both potentially  reclaim possession and test their back 3 who will expect high balls, and using the maul and forward drives to build momentum. Very mobile pack so move them about and shift focus of drives to tire opposition

Quicker ball to go straight to backs, with Barclay and Ward chasing as options and play directly through Allen and Tales attacking the line, then recycling with offloads and good breakdown work before moving the ball to carrier like Guest and the outbacks in space. Run at men off first phase ball but then at the gaps and keep eyes open for options to cleverly kick behind with Le Roux in particular chasing. But predominantly keep ball in hand

In looser play lots of forwards to get involved in the back line

Defence

Blitz led by Allen, Yachvili sweeping. Stop their carriers before they can build any momentum. Russouw to lead fringe defence and Ward and Barclay to pressurise the halfbacks as they chase the ball

Line out

Good options here so mix it up and play off the top where possible. Compete on all throws

Scrum

Look to use as an opportunity to get the ball out as quickly as possible to start an attack through Guest to our backs (attack the blindside on occasion) or to kick through (low) and pressurise their back 3

Kicking-

Take easy kicks at goal. Press for penalties in their half but hold back in our own

Subs-

Be prepared to use especially in the pack with our players running hard to move their pack around. Godwin offers a different option at 10 or 12 if we need to mix it up

Targets

Campagnaro to test Smith's footwork and instincts in defence, look to wear McCaw and POC down and get in Youngs' face all day. Look out for Cruden's offloading, and Ward/Barclay will look to pounce on these in their drifting roles. If we kick to Goode make sure someone is there to smack him down straight away and expose his lack of physicality

Keys

Go alll out in pack, move them about and sub tired players

Target Smith in defence and harry Youngs

Focus on recycling ball quickly

Kick low not high

Get ball out of set pieces quickly

Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen

Saints team to play Tigers:

1. Mako Vunipola
2. Dylan Hartley (c)
3. Carl Hayman
4. Joe Launchbury
5. Courtney Lawes
6. Steven Luatua
7. Sam Cane
8. Billy Vunipola
9. Mike Phillips
10. George Ford (k)
11. Julian Savea
12. Matt Giteau
13. Manu Tuilagi
14. Tommy Bowe
15. Elliot Daly

16. Rob Webber 17. Thomas Domingo 18. Henry Thomas 19. Samu Manoa 20. Sergio Parisse 21. Niko Matawulu 22. Weslie Fofana 23. Leigh Halfpenny.

16. Rob Buchanan 17. Tony Woodcock 18. Kyle Sinckler 19. George Kruis 20. Mamuka Gorgodze 21. Karl Dickson 22. Steven Myler 23. Jonathan Joseph

02. Sean Cronin10. Freddie Burns (k)
03. James Johnstone
04. Bradley Davies11. Tom Varndell
05. Geoff Parling (c)12. Scott Williams
06. Liam Messam13. Marcelo Bosch

08. Johnnie Beattie15. Maxime Medard

  • Back three players are adept in the air and will look to mark the ball to perhaps draw a penalty from a late tackle.

;-
16. Marc Jones 17. Tom Smallbone 18. Will Collier 19. Nick Kennedy 20. Scott Higginbotham 21. Lee Dickson 22. Shane Geraghty 23. Henry Trinder
Tactics:

Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen 6London Wasps
Manager  Ozzy3213

01. Alex Corbisiero09. Aaron Smith
02. Bismarck du Plessis10. Owen Farrell
03. David Wilson
04. Romain Millo-Chluski11. Bryan Habana
05. Johann Muller12. Christian Lealiifano
06. Siya Kolisi13. JJ Englebrecht
07. Steffon Armitage14. Marland Yarde
08. Duane Vermeulen ©15. Delon Armitage

Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen

Post by SirJohnnyEnglish Wed 26 Mar 2014, 5:12 pm

Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen 12 Sale Sharks
Manager – SJE

01. Marcos Ayerza09. Danny Care
02. Benjamin Kayser10. Johnny Sexton
03. Davit Zirakishvilli
04. Dave Attwood11. Kyle Eastmond
05. Brodie Retalick12. Francois Steyn
06. Peter O'Mahony13. Gael Fickou
07. Fulgence Quedragao14. Simon Zebo
08. Louis Picamoles15. Nick Abendanon

Saracens
Manager – Pooly

01. Alex Waller09. Nick White
02. Keven Mealamu10. Morne Steyn
03. Jannie Du Plessis
04. Flip Van Der Merwe11. Miles Benjamin
05. Victor Matfield(c)12. Luther Burrell
06. Dave Denton13. Jonathan Davies
07. Chris Henry14. Chris Ashton
08. Toby Faletau15. Lee Byrne
-,
16. Tiaan Liebenburg 17. Max Lahiff 18. Clement Ric 19. Louis Deacon  20. Carl Fearns 21. Chris Cook  22. Gareth Steenson 23. George Lowe

Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen

Post by Guest Thu 27 Mar 2014, 10:42 am

Glos

Will reformat when I stop to use wifi

1 Steenkamp
2 Strauss
3 Mas
4 Stooke
5 Robson
6 Alberts
7 Qera
8 Heaslip
9 Genia
10 cipriani
11 May
12 Scott
13 Kuridrani
14 folau
15 Dagg
16 Wood
17 George
18 Harden
19 Gray
20 Dickinson
21 Robson
22 Carter
23 Banahan

Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen

Post by SirJohnnyEnglish Fri 28 Mar 2014, 12:04 pm

Exeter Chiefs 20-21 Gloucester

Scrum: No real edge here. Better technicians slightly to Glaws but more power to the Chiefs front 5.
Lineout: Glaws more dangerous off their own ball but Chiefs should hold theirs.
Breakdown: Neither side the best balanced but Glaws have a bit more quality to the back row.
HB's: Edge to Glaws individually and as a combo.
Attack: More strike runners for Glaws but the Chiefs pack edges the carrying game overall. Glaws shade the kicking game.
Defence: Both 10s can be ran through more so Burns currently.
Bench: Carter the biggest impact but current form dulls that somewhat. Even elsewhere.
Tactics: Pack battles fairly even here but kicking to the Glaws back three is a dangerous tactic for Chiefs.

Harlequins 25-19 London Irish

Scrum: On current form can see Quins getting a nudge on here.
Lineout: Both sides should hold their own but Quins more dangerous of attacking ball.
Breakdown: Can see the Quins front 5 getting through more work which edges this.
HB's: 9s even but Cooper offers more at 10 atm.
Attack: Smith gives Irish an extra playmaker but Quins have more in the carrying stakes.
Defence: Rougerie can be caught out time to time by Smith.
Bench: Just a shade more quality to the Quins bench overall.
Tactics: Don't see Irish getting much change from Quins defence with the tight approach.

London Wasps 15-12 Saracens

Scrum: Don't see either side getting an edge here.
Lineout: Sarries capable of stealing the odd ball.
Breakdown: On current form a lot of work is being left for Henry in the Sarries back row and they won't always see quick ball.
HB's: Advantage Wasps individually and as a combo currently.
Attack: Bit more power in the Sarries backs but Wasps stronger kicking wise and out wide.
Defence: Sarries don't explicitly state it but looks to be a blitz from them. Sarries weak out wide but the choke tackle will work well at times.
Bench: Better form for Wasps to bring on.
Tactics: Physical approach from Sarries works well but don't see them getting much territory and they haven't many options to break the defence from deep. See a low scoring messy game here.

Northampton Saints 23-23 Leicester Tigers

Scrum: See Tigers drawing penalties from Mako with a very strong front 5 on show.
Lineout: Both sides should get some good attacking platforms from this.
Breakdown: Cracking battle here with both sides very strong overall.
HB's: Edge Tigers individually and as a combo. Offer much more control.
Attack: More of a carrying game from Saints with amore mobile pack.
Defence: Ground can be made down Ford's channel.
Bench: Form issues for one or two Tigers and as such Saints edge slightly.
Tactics: Both sides similar with a powerful mobile carrying approach. Tigers halfbacks offer enough control though to take something away from the Gardens.

Newcastle Falcons 19-15 Worcester Warriors

Scrum: Slight edge to Falcons but Worc 2nd row helps Lee to lock it down somewhat.
Lineout: Both sides should hold their own but Falcons with the better attacking options.
Breakdown: Step up for Falcons name wise but McCaw has majorily struggled this season and Worc with good form sees it level.
HB's: Yach edges 9s but Cruden amongst the best in the world currently.
Attack: Bit more about Falcons although Smith better at fullback then 13.
Defence: Smith can be targeted positionally.
Bench: Don't see either side really getting on top.
Tactics: More detail from Worc but Falcons are set up well and feel they have more about them at home.

Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen Empty Re: Aviva Premiership Round Eighteen

Bath 25-25 Sale

Not much in the scrum or line out with two good front 5 units that will be great around the park. Sale prob shade the 6/8 but need a better 7 to dominate teams. Equal 9's, Care in great form and Sexton on top at 10 although not in great nick. Centres close but Bath a big step up in back 3. Really tight one, can't see past draw.

Exeter 20-14 Gloucester

Scrum to Exeter with Gloucester props not having the best of times lately. Big step up in 2nd row for Exeter though with both players on another level. Exeter stronger at 6/8 but 7's close, Exeter good pack advantage. Nothing in half backs, burns lack of form levels him off with Cips who I don't rate on back foot. Exeter stronger in centres but Gloucester back 3 well ahead but struggle to get into game. Exeter front 5 set tone and give them decent win.

Halequins 20-19 Irish

Not much in front rows, Quins shade 2nd row but can see some fatigue with Botha/Borth playing most games. Irish a step up at 7/8 but Wood well ahead of Wray. 2 top players at half back for Quins but I don't think they'd work well, not sure Irish can exploit. Very one dimensional centres combo for Quins, Irish need a step up on Bell when big players back. Not much in back 3's, really tight win for Quins.

Northampton 21-22 Leicester

Game of round. Slight scrum advantage for Tigers but nothing in line outs, good front 5 battle. Tigers edge flanks but Billy a big step on Joubert, Tigers need a better 8. Phillips dreadful of late hinders Saints a bit, strong combo for Tigers.  Not much in centres and Tigers step up in back 3. Tigers edge in a really tight one with Wilko kicking everything and Ford not.

Newcastle 27-23 Worcester

Not much in good scrum contest but Falcons can get on top at line out. Good contest in backrow but again just more quality for Falcons. Continues in the back line with best 9/10 combo in league pulling strings. Tough on CJ as Falcons on fire.

Bath Rugby 28 Sale Sharks 33
Set Piece: Very little in it either way, but I can see Ayerza winning some scrum penalties of Tameifuna, so perhaps a little edge there to Sale, but line out is as even as it gets.
Breakdown: Interesting battle, with Bath not committing numbers and Sale going hard at it.  Sale will get quick ball as a result, so the Bath defensive line had better look solid when I get to it.
Key Jerseys (2,8,9,10):  Quality for both teams in these positions, but in form terms it is impossible to argue against Care and Sexton, who if a Lions side was selected tomorrow would be almost certain starters.
Bench:  Neither side has an absolute game changer on the bench, but Barrett is the closest to being one for Sale.
Tactics: I keep seeing this banana blitz defence mentioned, and I presume this means coming up at pace with a curved line rather than a straight one.  I think this is risky from Bath against this Sale backline.  I see it as Sale getting quick breakdown ball, Bath blitz but not straight, and Sale say they are going to attack Tomkins outside shoulder.  With the runners they have, I can see them picking him off time and again and getting in behind Bath often.  Bath are right to go with big carries as they have a bulky side, and they'll get some joy from this, but they will also be vulnerable on turnover ball.
Overall:  I think this will be a high scorer with both attacks in the ascendency over the defences.  I just think Sale's gameplan suits their personnel better and Bath have given Sale opportunities to score with the way they have set up to play.  Really good away win for a well set out Sale side.

Exeter Chiefs 16 Gloucester 18
Set Piece: Loads of power from the Chiefs props, but Gloucester have the better technicians.  Not convinced about either lock pairing giving their front row much support in the scrum and difficult to pick a winner here.  Lineout both teams will secure their own ball, but I'm not seeing many steals.
Breakdown: Physical old back row battle, but the Chiefs have better support from their props clearing out.  Both teams will make it really difficult for each other and I can see a lot of slow ball coming here, making life difficult for both 9's.
Key Jerseys (2,8,9,10): Nothing to call at 8 and 9, but would take Strauss and on current form Cipriani, giving Gloucester an edge in this area, which is important when trying ot get the win away from home.
Bench: Carter the standout in terms of quality, but has little form.  Neither bench a game changer for me.
Tactics:  Both teams going ball in hand and trying to use their biger carriers to creater space for their pacier guys.
Overall: This game won't be won or lost through the set piece.  What it will come down to is which team uses what quick ball they get best, as they won't get much of it.  9 and 10 will be key to this, as will the strike runners, and I have to give it to Gloucester.  Cipriani is in massively better form than Burns, and I think he can put someone like Folau though the gaps that Alberts and Qera can create through their carrying.  Close game, won by a moment of magic from the arguably the most in form finisher in the world right now.

Harlequins 32 London Irish 22
Set Piece: I'd give Quins an advantage in both the scrum and lineout here, with Marler much improved and able to really trouble Adam Jones, and Borthwick and Wood an excellent combination both in attack and defence in the air.
Breakdown: Again I give this to Quins with big carriers ensuring that the players coming in to secure the ball are on the front foot.  I can see them getting some quick ball to work with.
Key Jerseys (2,8,9,10): A little bit more for Quins in a couple of these positions and this gives them another edge.
Bench: Both have a couple of guys who can have an impact late on.
Tactics: Simple gameplans from both, but Quins personnel will effect their tactics better.
Overall: I've given Quins the edge in pretty much all areas, which at home has to make it a very comfortable win them.  Sorry prop.

Northampton Saints 25 Leicester Tigers 23

Newcastle Falcons 24 Worcester Warriors 21

Bath 24-25 Sale on phone so this is only game I will do to Sunday as it's only one I can view easily.

Tough tough game. Front 5 to bath due to best lock combo in game. Healy and Ayerza best lh In world with new laws. Hibbard better hooker and tamefuina has come on. Can see both lh getting on top.

Both second rows top with sale having great form and as do bath. White lock peerless
And with Romano shade it.

Back row even. Robshaw in form and Haskell great of late.
Tough to rate quadrogo. Lobbe lacking form where pickles despite his flaws is a top 8. Not
My kind of 8 but I always give him great ratings as I see his value to the France and sale team.

Where sale win this is the spine shirts 2,8,9,10,12 shirts

Steyn form great and jake white is getting him
Back
To where he should be ie best 12
In world.
A way to go but he is back. Care and sexton best
Nh combo and that control
At 8,9,10 secures away win.

Sale will ship points through back 3 with eastmonds out of position and Zebo out of
Form and abendanon sparkling going
Forward but will struggle defensively with his back 3

Bath 22-26 Sale
Bath strong in the front 5 but Sale take the half backs and back row, can see the Sale half backs getting good go forward ball and this will suit their gameplan.

Chiefs 20-24 Glos
Pretty much evens up front and this game goes down to the battle at 10 where Cips is coming into good form and Burns is being left out in the cold at Glos. Glos using set piece for solid ball and with the two Izzy's they will run back hard at Chiefs.

Wasps 28-26 Sarries
Looking at the teams on paper there isn't a lot between them, on current form I feel that Wasps have a bit more coming into the game with Farrell winning me over and Wilson in form of his life. This game comes down to the bench where Wasps are stronger.

Saints 22-22 Tigers
I'm going to be annoying here but with 2 hugely strong packs and good centre pairings mixing youth and experience with both sides I can't see either team getting an edge, even looking at the bench I feel that Tigers will take something but a good fight from Saints who are unlucky not to take all the points.

Falcons 20-18 Warriors
I feel that Warriors are going to take this game to Falcons, feel Falcons are a bit of a step up at 10-12-13 to take it.

Bath 33 -32 Sale
REally not sure how Bath are where they are in the league, got such a strong team. That is a realyl strong pack and having Robshaw back in the pack will be a big boost. Sale have a definite advantage at halfback, but think they need a back who can get them over the gainline. A narrow home win.

Chiefs 23-25 Glos
Very even in the pack, can see it being a very good contest and that the Exeter second row combo will really get one up on the Gloucester pair. But Gloucester again have the right players in good form and Cips attacking game gives them a good outet. Mat's options from the bench are also big players who will see them through in final 25mins.

Wasps 24-22 Sarries
Credit where credit is due, Pooly has put together a very strong team and backrow could well get an edge as very dynamic and good ball carriers. Very little in this, but Farrell is on such good form and is vital for Pete in the AP run in. Stronger bench from the home side sees the win.

Falcons 29 - 26 Warriors
Conditions really suit Falcons tactics. Can see quite a few tries in this one with the players on display, but the home side have just a few more top class players who I can see winning the game.

Quins 27 - 24 London Irish
Really like the look of Steve's team at the moment, really good backrow combination, which will cause teams all sorts of problems and some real impact off the bench too. See Irish suffering a bit with Wray and Bell, the latter hasn't been in good form for Wasps of late, a solid player but up against Roberts he could come unstuck.

Bath 20 Sale Sharks 24

Forwards: goes to Sale with a good scrum and mobile pack , Attwood in great form aswell
Backs: both backs well set out but a lot more form in Sale line, Care/Sexton best pair in league atm
Attack: I don't think baths tactics suit they're players , sticking it up the jumper in the pack won't bring the best out of a dangerous Hodgson.
Defence: Bath rock solid in line and will tackle all day , can see Sale being pretty well drilled and not letting Bath get the ball they need.

Bath 20 - 25 Sale Sharks

Bath as we all know are a decent outfit and makes this a really close game down at the Rec. However Sale has some real form coming into their side are probably the right time of the season. The tactics are solid but Bath will struggle against the simple plan of the Sharks, and perhaps felt that bath could have done a bit better putting some width in the forward play. regardless of that the Bath lads will seal the LBP.

London Wasps 24 - 22 Saracens

Cracking tactical game here. Sarries are set out nicely to spoil the wasps game and will get some decent headway here, my only question is that I don't think they can maintain that effort for a full 80. With both sides having metronomic boots at ten then this remains a close game. I feel that both sides lack a little creativity in the midfield, but both JD and Leali provide some sort of spark. I can just see Wasps taking the win, but not without Sarries making them sweat for it!

Northampton Saints 30 - 33 Leicester Tigers

Real close affair, with Tigers perhaps shading the forwards, with their experience. Set piece you can't seperate either at the moment so it is up to the back lines to make some headway. Ford in great form and will put Manu and his outside backs in space with Gits helkping that. However Phillips will slow this down and make it a little easier to defend. I feel that wilko and 36 will play the game well and bring in Ranger and Sivi to great affect. Brown will really edge his battle with daly right now, not starting Halfpenny is a knock to Saints. You can see as the game wears on Tigers will control the pace and strangle the life out of Saints.

Harlequins 28 - 25 London Irish

Can see Quins getting a slightly better foothold in this game as Borth will run his line out and get his forwards on the go forward. I just feel that the Ruan Cooper combo will control the game and get the most out of the back line. Shame for Irish as I feel they lack a little in the second row in comparison, and have a better bench, but just can't swing the game late on.

Newcastle Falcons 23 - 21 Worcester Warriors

Warriors really take the game to Falcons and make a battle out of the 80 minutes. Warriors really get in among the Falcons forwards and get some good forward ball. However Falcons have a strong spine in the team and in the key decision making positions Falcons have a real advantage and with that and some potent size on the bench Falcons will just see off the threat of the warriors.
