The "I feel old" moment Empty The "I feel old" moment

Post by CFCNick Thu Mar 27, 2014 4:11 am

Listening to yesterday's Marek vs Wyshynski podcast this morning and the question of the day was "What moment made you feel old as a hockey fan?"

Now obviously that question doesn't apply to this forum and not even me for not being a fan long enough but I thought as it does apply to all sports I'd nick it for football. So when was the very first moment and other moments that made you feel old/older than you are?

For me I suppose it's that it's almost been 17 years since Di Matteo's FA Cup final goal against Middlesbrough. Also, It's been 11 years since we beat Liverpool to finish 4th. Plus there's seven, well established, first team Chelsea players younger than me.

16 years since Michael Owen's goal against the Argies.

I feel old when the date of births of the young players coming through get mentioned.

Luke Shaw hadn't been born when i started secondary school and now he's playing for England.

Harry Kewell announcing his retirement made me feel old. I felt quite old when he was a young whipper snapper playing for Leeds.

I can remember when I was a wee boy going to Ipswich games (yes I know my mums side of the family are from there and all massive scum fan) and id go to games with my grandad

I can remember seeing Heskey score for Liverpool in a 5-0 win at Portman road, and that was like 14 years ago makes me feel old

Also remember a Morecambe player getting sent off that season as well

I can remember going to the FA Youth Cup final 96. Liverpool v West Ham. There was Carragher, Owen, Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard (Jnr (as it says on my programme!)).

Seeing Carragher and Owen retire made me feel old.

I've got a vivid recollection of the Celtic/Liverpool game that was organised in the aftermath of Hillsborough, I've also got the program which is framed along with other important Celtic related programs, because its such a talked about incident remembering that charity friendly between the clubs always makes me feel old. 25 years ago now...damn!

I remember being shocked by a Man U loss
I remember that night in Munich and Jeremy Goss
I remember when Chelsea were a mid table team
I remember when Europe for them was a dream

I remember when City dropped down to League One
I remember when Liverpool were the best, bar none
I remember when Arsenal lifted a cup
I remember when Eric beat that tw@t fan up

I remember when Forest were with the elite
I remember when Owen was quick on his feet
I remember when games were all played the same day
And I can't wait to look back in 20 years time on that sunny afternoon in May when the mighty reds bagged the PL title playing the Liverpool way!

 Very Happy

Not too long ago, I heard the commentator remark, during a Spurs match, that is more than 50 years since Tottenham Hotspur won the league title and became the first club to do the league and cup double in the 20th Century.

It made me feel a tad old to remember that, when Spurs played Charlton at White Hart Lane in the 3rd round of that season's FA Cup (and Charlton came within a whisker of beating them..!!), that I was at the game.

More than 50 years ago. Yeah..... that makes you feel old.
