CL Last 16
Part Moyes, part the squad SAF left him. Naive in the extreme to think yesterday would've ended up any different with SAF at the helm

This.
It was a classic Everton type performance. The kind of one they would put on when the bigger boys would visit Goodison.
Keep it very tight, defensive, disciplined and walk off proudly with a draw.
Try to do damage on the counters and set pieces while possibly pressuring Bayern into making a mistake.
United defended well no doubt. Vidic, Rio and Buttner were all solid and impressed.
Bayern struggled with Welbeck's pace on the counter in the first half but sorted themselves out in the second.
Rooney was ineffective other than his swan-like dive to get Bastian sent off.
No surprise that United's goal came on a set piece. 2 out of the 3 goals United have scored against the top 5 have come that way.

rather embarrassing statement of moyes managerial ability that united fans are so happy with a 1-1 at home, cant say im ready to accept were everton just yet
Not at home but you only had 32% possession in the 2011 Champions League Final. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/13576522
There was no point trying to play Bayern at their own game, it would have been embarrassing. The tactics were spot on when facing a team like Bayern, don't leave any space while defending and counter with pace. When a team has so much possession they tend to slowly creep forward leaving so much space behind. It nearly worked for United, it was only a really poorly conceded goal which cost them the tie. They had more good chances and for all Bayern's possession, it was only going behind that really got them going.
It isn't just a 1-1 draw at home though, it's a 1-1 draw against the current champions of Europe who steam-roll sides. I think even if SAF was under the charge, the performance and result would have been very similar. Not sure what you expected.

im not saying we should have gone all out attack on them, whether its barca or bayern you have to keep it tight i agree. but when you get the ball you have to make the best of it. last night we were awful in possession and mainly just pumped it in behind for wellbeck to chase or try to hit felliani who more often than not lost it
the fact remained in previous years OT is one of the hardest places to go to in europe, with the fantastic backing of the fans adding to that. to sit back as much as we did and be happy with a 1-1 is not acceptable, we needed to take a lead over there if we have any ambition of progressing in the tie, like i said earlier im not ready to simply be happy with not getting trounced just yet, it may sound arrogant but were manchester united whether were currently in a dip or not.
this same team last season had the better of madrid by playing tight untill a harsh red card. the performance wasnt that bad last night from some of the dross that moyes has served up so far this season. but it doesnt sit well with me that we as united fans are happy simply not to be getting beat by teams at old trafford no matter who they are. bayern are not some unstoppable force like some make out, certainly not as good as the barca team that beat us in the final of 09. every time we went forward last night they looked terrified

Good starts for Real and PSG.
Interesting to see how Jose plays this. Chelsea need an away goal but can't open it up

People going on about Zlatan and his incredible record of scoring and winning everywhere he goes. He's never scored against John Terry.
Last week I put on two £20 bets with mates that he won't score in the whole tie.

im still not sold on zlatan, a scorer of amazing goals but not always an amazing player. done absolutely nothing here
never really done it against the best teams, i no i dont count england as anywhere near a "best" team
league stat is a bit misleading as well, every where he's been have already been comfortably the best team in the league

Psg are week today , bad performing midfielders. Chelsea should really get the win based on that first half.
A decent striker at Chelsea would really put them up there, without that cliniclness psg still in with a chance

It was a friendly so even if he did it v Spain it still means zip all.
However he did turn it on v Portugal in the wc playoffs. Sadly ronaldo turned it on even more.

Schurrle - is he an out-and-out striker? I wouldn't say so. Second striker maybe but I'd have him on the wing as part of a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1.

Lazy from the press - just because they both have mad hair doesn't mean they have the same mad hair.
(Nice photo though, it looks reasonably similar in that one)
