That is the strength of his match play more than anything else. Credit to him for not buckling and at 7-10 then who knows. Ronnie still a hot favourite but here is hoping Selby can score heavier tomorrow and do himself justice.

Ebdon of course can also boast a win over Ronnie in the quarters in 2005 13-11.

Re: 2014 World Snooker Championship Thread
I really can't decide if this final is going to turn out to be a closely-contested classic or if it's going to end up a procession for O'Sullivan, with him cantering to a 18-11 win or something along those lines.
Neither were really close to their best yesterday - but Selby to a greater extent. O'Sullivan played pretty well but hardly greatly by his standards, but Selby had a shocker.....And yet he's still only three frames down. There's just no way (for me at least) he can play worse today than he did yesterday, so on that basis you'd have to assume he can at the very least make it a super-close one.
He did a great job of hanging on to O'Sullivan's coat tails last night, but that won't be good enough today. If they split the first session today 4-4 then I guess it keeps Selby in it to a degree, but he obviously needs to win a session outright if he's going to win, and the pressure cooker of a final session means that he's more likely to have a wobble tonight, so I think he really needs to pounce early and try to cut Ronnie's lead this aft.
Might sound stupid as it's only a single frame swing, but if it's 14-11 after this afternoon then I'd probably find myself thinking that, in theory, Selby's still in it, but in my heart I wouldn't really be thinking he can go on and win it from there. But at 13-12 I'd be very, very excited about the final session.

I still think he's going to get beaten by a comfortable four to five frame margin, but fair play to Selby for hanging in there and remianing competitive.

Re: 2014 World Snooker Championship Thread
I predict Ronnie to win 18-12. For Selby to mount a real comeback he must start scoring heavier when he gets the chances as he will get them if Ronnie carries on the way he played yesterday. It is a bit depressing though to watch a world final in the knowledge that Ronnie can canter to the title not even in top gear such is the standard around him. Anyway I will miss this evening's session as I am working so unless it gets really close I am unlikely to see the final shots of the tournament. Enjoy everyone.

Re: 2014 World Snooker Championship Thread
If Selby can find his scoring boots this afternoon then I'll believe it's possible. Chris is right, Mark can't play any worse today than he did yesterday but ROS can certainly play a lot better. The first frame this afternoon might be key.

ROS has cue tip problems (apparently). That's the kind of thing which will affect his game much more than anyone else's. 2 years ago when he had "the perfect tip" no one got close to him. Small margins. Time for Dr Peters to earn his money.

If Selby didn't win that frame then there's no hope for him. As it happened, he did win it and closes to 10-8.

It's 10-9. ROS isn't wearing his black shirt and therefore isn't playing too well. Or that's my theory...

Now, call me a skeptic but whenever there's a cough on a player's backswing and they're playing against Ronnie at a crucial point in the match, I can't see it being innocent.
Is it "skeptic" or "cynic" I want?

Selby has been class today. Been a machine out there today! Full credit to him, even if he loses tonight, he can be very proud of his afternoon of Snooker.

It's 11-10 Selby. ROS is playing poorly and Mark isn't giving him an inch. That was another massive frame.

This has shades of Cliff Thorburn grinding down Alex Higgins.

Selby struggling. He could have won every frame today so far but looks like being behind going into the final session.
