First topic message reminder :

Wilshere out for 6 weeks according to BBC. Hairline fracture on foot. Considering Arsenal have been nursing him through the season because of his ankle injuries I think it would be a risk taking him (not questioning his ability) due to the tight schedule of games.

Have you come down from the peak of Mount Everest yet, Mysti, or do you still think Shaw in the centre of midfield is a good idea? Wink

Smalling has been very good for United this season, probably their best defender, he is very under-rated. Jones has been alright but has so much potential and I'd bet anything that he'll go to Brazil.

Jones has been appalling, like he's never seen a football before.

Smalling has been very average.

I'd expect both them to go to the World Cup mind, jones can embarass himself on the biggest stage of all.

The only reason this discussion came up was because someone had delusional thoughts of taking another Liverpool defender with no caps to the WC. It will be Smalling for sure & although he's not very good, Jones will probably go, because he can play two or three positions & is versatile. End of.

Thinking back on it. Jon Flanagan at RB really could work, especially that Glen Johnson got torn apart by Yannic Bolasie last night.

Glen Johnson will be sound in an England shirt this summer, and he'll be playing with a much stronger defensive unit as a whole.

There is no need to jump to rash judgement.

The En-ger-land daily squad rumour:

According to the Telegraph, the final midfield spot, and indeed the final place in the twenty-three, is between Ross Barkley and Michael Carrick.

And it seems that Barkley will be chosen over Carrick.

If this rumour is true, one must assume that either Henderson or (brace yourself, sit down) Lampard is going to be in the 23.

It was one game. He's been very reliable all season, and coped well with the pressure of playing in a side challenging for the league.

Jamie Redknapp with a passionate article in the Daily Mail today, saying how England should be bold and pick some promising young footballers, like Shaw, Oxlade, Sterling, and Barkley.

He still finds room for his dear cousin, though. Doh

It looks like Phil Jones will be ruled out of the World Cup after seeing a shoulder specalist for his injury. That is, at least, what the media are whispering.

If that happens, I imagine Kyle Walker will be near a certainty to make the final 23.

Its not like i didn't till I was 26 or anything lol.

So the whole terry thing might be becoming clearer then- Its one or the other and Rio will be prefered....

Crazy to think the only old player that has truly shone out all season is Terry(ok gerrard has played well but tailed of when it has really mattered)

In the heat of Brazil, and given Roys tactics, its a fair assumption we'll be doing some ball chasing. We'd be overrun with Gerrard and Carrick. Henderson gives some legs and energy in there.

So would I- but i have no idea why its a choice!

both should go- however not having carrick in the team will tell us that roy doesnt want a back 5- which is all that carrick gives you and will be looking at a more attacking side

Nominated in the PFA awards.
PFA Team of the Year.
2nd in the FWA Player awards.

He made one mistake against Chelsea and then was desperate to make up for it which ruined his game entirely, but apart from that he's been fantastic. I definitely think he has outshone Terry.

I don't know if you are joking or not, but I certainly think there is a case for that to be true. The team has always looked better with Henderson in the side and he would have tired Chelsea out with his running as well as making the runs that could have actually hurt the defence, with Allen and Lucas you just don't get that. I think against Palace as well he would have been a key player at seeing the game out.

no he isnt joking- its true henderson has aided gerrard and liverpool a lot- together they have been a great unit.

It gives me more hope as an england fan if Roy plays them both.. Bakley can then run the opposition ragged at a later point

play the 3 then - henderson and barkley.

i can see it working well enough-and then just the one striker(rooney just over sturridge) what i cant see working is gerrard without henderson and vice versa

Its Roy. Safety first is the mantra. Its also why we'll only be there for a week or so

It's a shame as Sterling is actually fantastic defensively, always tracks his runner and I believe has one of the best tackling rates in the Liverpool squad.

Its hard to be optimistic when England haven't given you any reason to be for a solid 8 years now.

Hart
Johnson-Jagielka-Cahill-Baines
Welbeck-Gerrard-Carrick-Lallana
Rooney
Sturridge

probably starting lineup.
