Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
First topic message reminder :
This is a serious test for Khan, especially given that it's effectively his debut at the weight. Collazo is a proven operator at the weight, having been in with Hatton, Berto and Ortiz to name but three. If it goes the distance, it's Khan's fight. But could we see an upset here? Would it even be an upset if Collazo won?

We have all had enough of Khan and his mouth over the years. As career has gone from bad to worse it would be great to see a real grafter like Collazo to finally ''make it''

I think by 'all here' onetwo means all in the room. That's onetwo and his carer.
I hope khan wins and looks good doing so.

Yep, he speaks for the small but vocal minority on here that seem to hate Khan for some reason. You know, that same small vocal minority that Trussman keeps making out is the majority opinion of 606v2. I myself can't understand it. Khan is pretty much never in a boring fight (McCloskey aside).

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
I'm going for a Collazo win on Saturday. He's bigger, stronger, in better form and, unusually, sported more than enough power to hurt Khan when he cracked out Victor Ortiz last time out.
Khan looked woeful against McCloskey (as mentioned above) -- another southpaw.
Khan looked damaged goods last time out and he'll be rusty to boot. Good chance of an upset here.

He also looked superb against Judah also a southpaw, i'm going to go for a comortable Khan points win, Collazo is a good operator but think his last outing against the woefully fragile Ortiz flattered him quite a bit.

Collazo carries a big enough whack and unlike Judah is massively motivated. Collazo is a massive WW and have a feeling he'll just wait for Khan to start swinging wildly (like he does) before nailing him with something big. khans little Pitt pats certainly won't dissuade him from charging down the distance if he chooses to do so either.
Collazo by stoppage in round 8 for me. Heard it here first from the 606 messiah.

Khan was on Sky sports again yesterday spouting about facing Mayweather after this fight so he may not have his eye on the ball again.
I'd like Khan to win and look good doing it, but my gut tells me he's not really interested and just wants a big payday against the money man before retiring.

Collazo weighs around 155lbs in ring so isn't that big a welterweight, he's a normal sized one really.

In terms of strength, size he's huge. Remember Hatton trying his push, shove and maul techniques and was like a little kid trying to shove his dad around.

Those tactics worked for Hatton for half the fight and to suggest Collazo is a huge Welterweight isn't true.

Going for a Collazo KO in this one.
Collazo effectively retired Ortiz, one of my favourites, so seems only right I back him to beat Khan.

Hatton has been quoted that his physical strength took him by surprise. But feel free to disagree with that.

As much as I want Khan to win just have a feeling he's going to come unstuck this weekend. Might have a little flutter on Collazo stopping him in each round (odds between 40-66/1 on skybet) so if we wins I'm happy but if he gets stopped I'll make a few quid...

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
It's no suprise that a career light Welterweight who relied on using his own physical strength against smaller men would be surprised by the strength of someone of equal size, he also said the same of Urango.
When you're an inside fighter moving up it will have a more detrimental effect on your performance than an outside fighter who will be looking to work behind his jab.

Not sure about this one if Khan sticks to a game plan of boxing then he wins on points, If he decides to go looking for the KO he gets stopped because he will get caught.
Whether or not he can take a natural Welters power remains to be seen.

Think barring Khan getting caught cold he should win this with a bit to spare. Collazo is being hyped after his victory against Ortiz, and while he's a strong awkward fighter he's not great and you'd expect Khan to rack enough point to win a comfortable margin with a few hairy moments

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
Forgot to add this is the best straddle bet of the year so far. Let me explain....
Khan 1/1 to win on points. Put £20 on it and you get back £40
Collazo to knock him out is 7/2. Put £20 on it and you get £90 back
So, £40 out laid and you're guaranteed at least your stake back!
Winner winner chicken dinner, you can all thank me now if you want?!?

Therealmicksters betting advice on the old Beeb used to be the best, entailing as it did advising you to bet against anyone British, irrespective of who they were fighting. His tips on Calzaghe fights could have bankrupted Bill Gates.

Good in principle though, in that they will probably receive a lot of 'home' money.Rowley wrote:Scottrf wrote:Almost as bad as D4's betting advice.

My betting advice is always bet on the underdog, and eventually they'll start coming off.
Bet on both Maidana, and Collazo. Bet on Chelsea to win the league.
Bet on the underdog in all IPL matches.
It's like basketball. shoot enough no look jumpers, and they'll start dropping in.

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
After Khan's comments about everywhere he goes people are hyping up him facing Mayweather and how everyone wants to see it (Which I think is BS personally) I think he's in danger of losing this fight.
He's done it before, overlooking a fight and he's been punished for it. I cannot believe he hasn't learnt from his past mistakes and you really don't want to be overlooking a tough welterweight in Collazo, who's coming off the back of a good win vs Ortiz. I've never liked Khan really, always has had allot to say for himself without really backing it up in the ring. I can see a TKO coming myself I really can, rounds 5-8 where Khan has always seemed to switch off and get caught.

I could see Khan hitting the deck but I dont think Collazo is a big puncher. Even when he knocked out Ortiz I thought Ortiz could have continued but didnt fancy it.
A year or two ago you would be saying that Collazo was made for Khan but with all the switching trainers, inactivity and generally looking poor in his last fight its had to know. The Ortiz win has flattered Collazo.

Izzi- Not sure if you are just confident but that bet is not guaranteed to get you your money back, If Khan wins via stoppage or Collazo wins on points you are down £40. Think I am going to have a flutter on Khan and Mayweather stoppages - 10-1, unlikely but worth a punt.

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
Quite a few on here predicting a Collazo win and pretty understandable given Khans recent performances, not sure how strong Khan is at the weight.
Khan is saying he is going to make this the most exciting fight of the night which suggests he is going to try more than just win on points bad news for Khan if he goes for a stoppage.

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
Khan just needs to use his head and box and stop trying to put on a show for the fans. All the matters in boxing is winning. Khan needs to put a bit of a winning streak together to improve as a fighter and then, when he's improved his defense and his boxing on the inside, then he can open up more in fights. When you have a genuine glass chin, you need to fight smart and make sure your chances of getting hit are at a minimum. Wlad has done this superbly in his career, using his jab to great effect.

There's one thing for sure, the Khan Collazo fight will be a more entertaining fight than the main bout and I'm picking a Khan win by stoppage in the later stages. It's eight years since Collazo went the distance with Hatton.Unlike One Two I'm sure most of us would like the Bolton lad to win well.

Callazo by TKO midway, will be impressed if he wins, shocked if he looks good doing it, Callazo makes it ugly against anyone, decent power, good right hook, good defence, good overall fighter. Hard fight for a first fight in a year and a weight above

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
I'm gonna make an actual prediction.
I think Khan wins. It's not one I'm confident of but I can see Khan winning it easier than I can see Collazo winning it. Against Berto, Collazo faced a fast guy, probably the fastest of his career and it was when Berto appeared at his best. When Berto stood with him Collazo came off better, as he's better with short punches and covering up close. When Berto boxed on the back foot he looked far better.
I think Khan's a better, faster back foot boxer than Berto and will do it from the outside. If Khan gets it wrong and let Collazo get inside he's in for a hard night, but he looks like a full welterweight on the scales and I think I can do it. Collazo has the brains and sturdiness a poor Khan won't be able to deal with. Amir by UD.

Saw the fights and Khan gave his best performance in years. Also a lot has been made of Khan being hurt by Collazo in the 8th. It was a good shot but Khan's legs did not go as they did when he is seriously hurt.
Dominated the fight, very good ring generalship and looks a viable opponent for the best in the division but still need s a title or another big win to cement a Mayweather fight

I slept in and only got the khan fight from the halfway point, but he looked awesome (apart from head holding, he probably should have been docked, but floyd did plenty of that too in his fight).
No one has beaten collazo up like that over 12 rounds.
I've given up on belts, but did khan pick up the WBC at the end of the fight? Thought floyd fought for it?

Fantastic, mature boxing performance by Khan. That is what he's capable of when not losing his head and throwing wild punches. he was slick, good in defence and although I didn't like his spoiling on the inside, pushing collazo's head down constantly, he was very strong in defence and threw some fantastic combinations. I don't think I gave Collazo a round. If he continues to fight this way he'll be back challenging for world titles no doubt.

Khan was awesome, couldn't give Collazo a round. Really stuck to his gameplan brilliantly. Definitely looks good at Welter, if anything he was out muscling Collazo, if illegally.
Good to see Hunter in the 11th criticising Khan for the earmuffs defence. It's clear he's eliminating some of the defensive frailties Roach instilled in him.

Khan was excellent. He was punching and moving for the 12 rounds and beating Collazo up. Considering their performances last night I'd give Khan a real chance against Mayweather.

Still no power there from Khan, put a headguard on him last night and he would have been an amateur. Not that thats a bad thing, he got the job done.
With his stock risen a bit he will create a bit of a decent event if he fights Mayweather.
Good luck to him, good win, still vulnerable, still no power but still fun to watch!

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
Khan beat Collazo up, dropped him 3? times and almost stopped him. If he could do that to someone as tough as Collazo then he has enough power to hurt anyone in or around the division.

That lack of power dropped Collazo three times though Dee, he's not a concussive puncher but he does possess decent power.

Re: Khan v Collazo: Thoughts and predictions?
Mature performance from khan... Finally. Thought he lost a bit offensively by being a bit more cautious but that's to be expected. Personally I thought the rounds were generally much closer from the 5th. Didn't find it quite the procession some did but very comfortable winner against a tough opponent.
Most impressive was that collazo took the expected Peterson formula Into the fight, but khan was able to keep distance for the most part and handle a pressure fighter.
