Wlad's Second Olympic Dream in Doubt.

I have to say that I am glad he has missed the deadline. Whilst he may not be guaranteed a win, a pro of almost 20 years' experience would be a fearsome prospect for any up and coming amateur. I know he's dealt with allcomers with ease in the last 7 or 8 years, but even a 40-year old Wlad should not be allowed anywhere near an amateur ring. It would make a mockery of the whole amateur/professional setup.
I think he's just being greedy. He's got one Olympic title already, as well as three Professional World Title belts. If he'd wanted more Olympic titles he should have stayed amateur.

No matter how many times I try to get my head round it, I can never understand why Wlad has been so in to this idea of having another Olympic campaign. I mean, maybe if like Roy he'd suffered a massive injustice and had been robbed of the gold he deserved I could half see his point in a skewed way. But what does he, or the image of Olympic boxing, get out of him going back with astronomical advantages over the other competitors and outclassing a bunch of kids?
Appreciate that some feel that, as the biggest sporting event on Earth, the Olympics should be the ultimate high level for any sport which chooses to be a part of the Games, but that just ain't possible or compatible with boxing.

The top level of most amateur sports is hardly amateur these days but boxing probably is one of the few that is still amateur, up to WSB level, that is followed by fans. NI can' t see it any other way than Wlad is being an egomaniac on this one.
If the likes of the Klitschko's start walking their way to Gold medals the Olympics will become very hollow indeed. Boxing is not like tennis which has little standing at an amateur level.
The cynic in me says Wlad will never walk the other way when there is a soft target about.

I actually think it is good for boxing. How many people watch boxing at the Olympics? How many would watch it if Klitschko/Khan/Mayweather were competing?
Look at tennis they have federer/nadal/murrey all competing and it is very well watched. How popular do you think it would be if a bunch of unknown tennis players competed?

Klitschko, who has lived in Germany since the 1990's, had the chance to take German citizenship and represent the country at the Olympics but he also failed to inform Germany's boxing association about his intentions in time.
"Unfortunately Klitschko has failed to meet the demands of the AIBA as he missed the opportunity to inform Germany's boxing association about his intention to represent our country at the Games in time," Germany's amateur boxing chief Jurgen Kyas said.

that says he could have represented Germany but he never declared in interest in doing so. Nothing in that says he was considering representing Germany.

Maybe Great Britain should just come out with a random statements that Audley has missed the deadline to make a comeback in the Olympics.......just for a laugh.

But it wasn't random, a reporter asked if klitschko would represent germany and they replied that he never declared an interest in doing so.Strongback wrote:Champagne_Socialist wrote:Strongback wrote:Champagne_Socialist wrote:Strongback wrote:Champagne_Socialist wrote:Maybe he is doing it for his country so that Ukraine win another medal.
