The public face of a course.
I played yesterday at silvermere in Surrey. Played an early game so one of the first there I think. Paid in the shop and then told to go to the starter. As we got to the starters hut he told us to wait as he went to the loo. No issues with this. I then gave him my receipt. He checked all receipts and told us we had been undercharged. And paid 7.50 less. He then phoned the clubshop and had a go at someone there. He then put the phone down and said quite loudly "stupid cow". Before letting us play, we didn't pay any extra. It was like we had taken his own money. He was a grumpy old man and seemingly a bit sexist. But as the public face of his course he should of dealt with it a lot better.

He should be careful. He's obviously an arse. If it were me, I think I might write a discrete letter to the club pointing one or two things out about their interface with the paying public...

Yes, that was quite inappropriate behaviour beninho, did it affect your enjoyment of the round? People shouldn't act like that when dealing directly with customers. Discriminatory comments shouldn't be tolerated, especially from old people.

It did not have an impact on the enjoyment of the round, and we laughed about it most of the way. Mentioning its good to see the usual stereotypes of golf courses where being kept up!
Quite enjoyed the course Davie, I was rubbish though, Made a horlicks of the 17th, when got pysched out and overclubbed massively. But par the last. In fact first time i hit a fairway and then the green and two putted all day.

Christ - (quite a lot of) golf clubs seem to be in a bad enough state already without idiots like that piping up in front of customers. Keep it in house if someone in the shop has undercharged accidentally - a quick call might have been appropriate after you guys had teed off but an outburst is unprofessional at best.
Was helping the greenskeepers out on our course the other week and saw a group of visitors with a tour operator that I know stood on the first tee. Stopped working (turfing to help out, so I was a bit muddy) popped over and gave them a little "welcome and hope you enjoy it" type chat which they seemed to appreciate (despite my slightly unkempt appearance!). Little thing, but hopefully they went away happy with a positive view of our club.

All he had to do was make a joke out of it with us, something about us getting lucky, and get on the course before someone notices. instead he acts like a grumpy old man, it may be "his" course put we where still the customers. I initially showed him my receipt and asked for a bottle of water, i got half way through asking and he cut me off with a not yet i need to sort this out first. Ive played many courses, and nothing really this bad before, though somewhere once did not like my friend in ankle socks. But they did not make a fuss.

What I mean is that sometimes people excuse ignorant or intolerant comments from people of an older generation because those were commonly held views in "their day". That's not right imo.
