Welcome to Season 6 of the Aviva Premiership fantasy rugby game.  Below are the rules of the game which must be adhered to.  If there are any situations that arise in the course of the game which are not covered by the rules, a final decision will be made by the RFU (SJE) as to how the situation will be resolved.

Senior Squads wrote:
The maximum squad size is 40 senior players.  If a team has more than 40 players in their squad then they will be fined £1 million per player over the permitted amounts per day for the first seven days. If after 7 consecutive days a team still has more than the permitted number of players then the team will be fined £2 million per player per day, and fined 1 league point per player per day for the next seven days. If after this time a team still has more than the permitted number of players in their squad, the RFU (me) will remove players at its discretion to bring them back under the permitted numbers. There will be no right of appeal to players being removed.

Be aware that all tier one international matches which are played during the season will count in the game, and players selected in the match day 23's for those matches will not be eligible to play for their clubs on that weekend, therefore you must give due consideration to the make-up of your squad.
Academy Rules wrote:
Each team will be allowed to have an academy squad of 20 players.  Players who are in the academy must be born on or after 1st September 1991.

Any player, who is at any Premiership club in real life, either in their senior, academy or AASE squads, can be bid for on the domestic bidding page.  Players who are at your own club in real life and are coming through the academy system must be bid for if you want them in your own academy.

Transfers wrote:

  • Domestic (other AP Teams)
Each team has a budget to use in the purchase of players. Domestic transfers between AP clubs, regardless of nationality of player, should be negotiated between the respective managers, and then confirmed on the Domestic Transfer Confirmation Page.
  • Domestic (Championship and below)
Each team may during the season purchase no more than 5 players from the Championship or the National Leagues.  These players must be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page, and each bid will be considered by me on its own merits before being accepted or rejected.  No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.
  • Foreign
To make a foreign transfer (i.e. from any club outside of the AP, regardless of whether the player is English) a bid should be made on the Foreign Transfers Page, which will be considered by me against the posted guidelines for purchase prices before being accepted or rejected. No bid will be accepted until a minimum of 24 hours has elapsed from the time the bid was made, in order to afford other managers the opportunity to make a counter bid.

There will be a summer foreign transfer window, which will run as follows.

    Structured Window

No cash will be used and each team will get effectively free transfers by way of a draft, which will run 12th, 11th, 10th …… 1st, 12th, 11th,10th… 1st place side.  This will run from 10th June 2013 until all teams have had their two picks.

    Open Window

Open transfer window, teams have unlimited bids provided they have the financial resources to cover them.  Teams may only bid for one player at a time.

Player Releases wrote:
Managers may choose to release players from their clubs, for which they will be offered compensation

Compensation will be paid as follows

£2 million – current international (must have played international rugby in the previous 12 months)
£1.5 million – former international
£1m – top flight experience
£0.5m – other

All released players will be deemed to have joined a Championship side and can be bid for on the Domestic Transfer Bidding page.
Retirements wrote:
There will be no compensation for retiring players.  Should a player who retires decide to come out of retirement and play again, then he will automatically go back to the club who he was playing for in the game when he retired.
Fixtures wrote:
There will be 22 Aviva Premiership games per season, plus the play offs. There will also be Heineken Cup, Amlin Challenge Cup and Anglo Welsh Cup matches.  These games will take place once a week. A match thread will be put up every Monday.  Home teams must be named by midnight on Tuesday.  Away teams must be named by midnight on Wednesday.  Both teams must provide tactics by midnight on Thursday.  Predictions will be open from 00:01 hours on Friday and remain open until 20:00 hours on Saturday.  Managers will post the scores that they think will happen from these games (apart from games in which they are involved).  An average of all predictions will be taken, and then 0.5 points added to each teams score for each prediction that had them as the winner, and that will then be the final score.

Managers are asked to provide detail as to why they have predicted a result.  To be considered a descriptive prediction this must be a full 3 lines long when entered into the text box.  If you are not providing a descriptive prediction you will be restricted to predicting a 1 point win either way.
Teams wrote:
When naming your team, not only should you put the starting XV and replacements, but also tactics that your team will employ. Results will be affected by the tactics described.

In addition, each team must have the following:-

At least 10 England qualified players in your match day 23, and at least 4 of those must be in your starting XV.

At least 2 props and 1 hooker on the bench.

All players must be eligible (not injured or banned).

Failure to comply with these rules will result in forfeiting the match and a 1 league point deduction.

If you fail to submit a team for a match, then the other team will be automatically awarded a 30-0 bonus point win. If both teams fail to submit a team, then it will be scored as a 0-0 draw.
Injuries and Suspensions wrote:
Injuries in this game do NOT reflect real life, they will be generated by me.

Players banned in real life will be ineligible for selection in this game for the duration of the ban.

Inclusion of injured/banned players will result in them being replaced by players on the bench, and the bench not having eight players, which may result in punishment if it concerns the front-row.

Punishment for fielding an ineligible player will be loss of one match point for a first offence, two for a second offence and so on.
Financial Rewards wrote:
There will be no rewards for the result of an individual match, instead the managers will receive cash for predicting.

£2m for descriptive predictions
£0.25m for scores on the doors predictions
If you fail to predict without first advising me that you are unable to do so that week, you will be fined £1m for a first offence, £2m for a second offence, £3m for a third offence etc.

Think the intervention of video ref was at its
Worst in that game.

Too many breaks for ref
And also reviewing things that did not need reviewing.

Was it a red ?? Rugby going soft and In the eyes of the law yes but as a player that would never be a red at

A lot of inconsistency in the rules though.

I still can't get the Manu on Ashton punch out of my head when it comes to punching. That was one of the worst decisions that has ever been made by anyone.

Tigers got away with so much in that game, Goneva could have got 3 yellow cards alone! Can tell they get coached by Cockerill.

Saints deserved that one massively.

Was a good little punch on Youngs - thought Dickson changed the game for them, thought it was an error bringing him on but really got them playing.

I'm not sure Saints deserved it but they stepped up just when they needed too.

Tigers were really clever at the breakdown and had scrum dominance for much of the game. If they had tried to keep the tempo up instead of running the clock down they'd have won.

Saints played ok, Dickinson was poor slipping off tackles and Kahn has had better games. Can't see them beating Sarries.

I thought Tigers had the upper hand for most of the game, perhaps dominant was the wrong word.

Bristol need to go up for the benefit of th AP though, both coaches from Leeds and Rotheram have said if they had money they'd do the same as Bristol with Ryan Jones. It's a professional game these days, if any of the other 3 went up they'd be absolute whipping boys.

I don't see how Bristol going up benefits the Premiership Chris.  Whilst I accept that Bristol will be stronger than the others, all it will say to me is that the way to success in the AP is to throw money at the problem.  I don't see how that benefits the AP or rugby in the long term, as it's not sustainable.  All that it will do is add credence to the claims of Griffiths and co at Saracens, that the salary cap is stopping our teams competing in Europe.  What will then happen to the Premiership is what has happened in football.  Saracens will be Chelsea, Bath will be Man City, Tigers will fall back to the position of being Liverpool and Saints will be Arsenal and we will continue to have the same top 4 year in year out for the next 10 years, whilst other clubs are unable to build anything sustainable as they don't have a sugar daddy, nor do they have the benefit of knowing they can bring youngsters through because relegation and all that entails looms large if they do.

Pennell likely to be England full back for first test?

1. Marler
2. Dave Ward
3. Dave Wilson
4. Joe Launchbury
5. Geoff Parling
6. Tom Johnson
7. Chris Robshaw
8. Ben Morgan
9. Danny Care
10. George Ford
11. Jack Nowell
12. Billy Twelvetrees
13. Manu Tuilagi
14. Jonny May
15. Chris Pennell

16. Tommy Taylor
17. Luke Cowan-Dickie
18. Henry Thomas
19. Dave Attwood
20. Dave Ewers
21. Ben Youngs
22. Danny Cipriani
23. Marland Yarde

I obviously am doing a lot of guess work but that replacement front 3 looks weak at this level

There isn't enough money in the lower leagues, having 12 competitive teams in the AP will make out league better.

What's the difference between Bristol signing a lot of players and Wasps making over 10 signings this summer? There isn't.

Bristol still bring through a lot of youngsters - every team in the Championship would do what Bristol have done if they had cash. I disagree that they've got Ryan jones in for second leg of semi final and the final, but at the end of the day Bristol are the most professional club in that league, have a huge support and will put up a big fight against the drop.

The other teams aren't run like that and for me benefit massively from the AP teams in terms of loans, Rotheram get 5 players from the Falcons academy for next season, which helps both teams and the players.

Pete there isn't anything that will stop that happening with Sarries, Tigers, Saints and Bath - they have the money and fan base. They will be the teams challenging for the final and Europe every year and other teams will be playing for a top 6 spot.

Do they?  They have the money, not sure about the fan base.  Taking out the games where they give away free tickets, Saracens average gate is no better than anyone elses in the Prem, and nor is Bath's.

Bath get sell outs most weeks, the Rec isn't the biggest but the owner wants to move - Saints sell out, Tigers sell out.

Sarries do well with their wembley trips but ground is 9,999 capacity, but they have major bank rollers, like Bath.

I agree with what you are saying, but I don't think it can happen in the modern era now. I can see AP maybe expanding to 14 clubs and them cutting out relegation, using Championship as a feeder league for top youngsters.

The guys who run the big clubs seem too influential and important not to get what they want eventually from this.

It's just a shame that across the whole league there aren't more people who go and watch the games, would change everything.

I obviously am doing a lot of guess work but that replacement front 3 looks weak at this level

Really depends on whether MB is fit, I'm still hopeful.

I did Sarries attendance figures last week during a conversation with Mat.  For games at Allianz Park this year they average around 8,200 and that is with the offers they do, like your money back if Henson scores etc.  It also showed that the figures were down against the same opposition they played there last season.

Saints and Tigers are well supported.  Bath, yes they sell out, but it's a small ground and I'm yet to be convinced they would fill a bigger one.

I would like to see the model for promotion/relegation changed.  I don't have a perfect plan for how it should work, but if you look at Leeds, they could realistically get promoted this season, but we all know their squad would go back down.  What that means is that they would bring in a load of experienced journeymen to try to stay up next season, and the talented youngsters they have won't develop.  What would be better would be if they could not be relegated next season, so could develop organically and try to build something that is sustainable at the top level.

In the Championship you have Bristol able to challenge in the AP from next season, Welsh have the potential but not a great academy and lost all their best players when they got relegated. Leeds have a great academy, but supported by AP loan deals and don't have the cash to get decent players in to support them.

Bath have a huge support, I've found it next to impossible to get a ticket for their games - again though a city with no decent football club.

Hopefully the 2015 WC will increase attendances and the RFU won't muck up our game for the next 5-8 years again.

That is exactly the point Chris. What is wrong with signing players

I think relegation in the premiership should be every 2 years.

London Welsh have some good players in they're side. Is David Sisi playing for them? Thought he was at Bath?
