Niko steals Hoggs try
Sorry if this has been mentioned elsewhere. I only just saw it and find it fascinating!
Did Niko not think Hogg would make it?
Did Niko just want to beat his team mate to the try?
Was it right of Hogg to warn his teammate off it?
Was it right for Hogg to be annoyed.
I honestly can't make my mind up on this.
My guy instinct is that Niko wanted to prevent Hogg from scoring his hatrick. But I know nothing about the players or their relationship.
Its certainly an interesting incident!

Re: Niko steals Hoggs try
Don't see anything wrong with what Niko did. It's a team game so as long as the try was scored then it doesn't matter who it was.
Looking at the footage Niko is fully focussed on the ball so possibly doesn't even realise Hogg is going for it too.
Also in soaking wet conditions like that Niko possibly thought Hogg might not get to it before it went dead.
Don't have a problem at all with what Matawalu did....Hoggs reaction at the time wasn't the best but he and Niko have been pictured since making light off the incident.
As i said it is a team game so it doesn't matter who scores!

If you go by what lots of people who have never met him are saying, then yes.

Yes, he is, isn't he - an act of stupidity in the heat of battle for which he was rightly red-carded, leading to an abject apology to Scottish fans, his team-mates and in person to Dan Biggar at the end of the match, etc. - complete hot-head

Jebus, is a formal apology to Scotland in order ?*

Never met the guy.
Surely we are scrapping the barrel of story generation if we are making Niko "stealing" his try a story.

That was a serious frown alright. Gave Niko the frowning of his life. Will be hard for him to recover from that. Hogg needs to have a serious look at himself in the mirror and turn that frown upside down.

Dorothy, I don't think we are scraping the bottom of the barrel. You can't deny its an interesting scenario. Rabo pro12 site produceed the video and Rugbydump.com featured it.
I guess some of us find it odd to see a professional player seemingly shouting "leave it, its mine" like he's in a primary school playground.

Well... I didn't see where else it had been discussed... but you know what I read boring stuff all the time - I do this really weird thing where I leave the thread and look for something more interesting...

Re: Niko steals Hoggs try
Based upon the video, I think they both knew exactly what they were doing.
Unacceptable for a player to 'call off' another player whilst going for a score. What happens if the player trips or falls?
Unacceptable for a player to compete with a teammate for a touchdown like that, which is clearly what Niko did.
Two peas in a pod.

Re: Niko steals Hoggs try
Unfortunately in the heat of the game looks a little bit like oneupmanship (wants a hatrick/hatrick prevention) and they're both a little to blame.
If I were Niko bearing in mind this is try 6 to 0 on the scoreboard with home playoff won by now, I'd have gone for it and pulled out at the last second once Hogg was clearly right on it too - it's a nice team spirit thing to do given the scenario.
And if I were Hogg I'd be a little disappointed but whatever, still scored play on and in future wouldn't feel like giving Mata a hattrick either!
Perhaps Mata was a little aggrieved Hogg didn't pass for his first try - and often doesn't

Re: Niko steals Hoggs try
Like has been suggested elsewhere, Hoggy came off at half-time against Zebre with an injury, so possibly hasn't been able to train this week, even tho now fit, allowing Toonie the luxury of rewarding the in-form and consistently reliable Peter Murchie with the starting shirt.
Perhaps of more interest is why Jackson (contract not renewed) was selected ahead of Weir (current Scotland 10) for bench stand-off

Ah, thats unfortunate then, article didn't mention the injury, 'dropped' implies something else to me.
I see Maitland is back too, should be a good game

Yup I can just see Shane Williams doing the exact opposite to what Nico did there, he'd of let Hogg score no problem at all!

Re: Niko steals Hoggs try
Situation like this in the Dragons v Trevisio game - young Tyler Morgan pretty much does everything to score a try, chases his kick - Will Harries sets it down. I'm guessing the 18 year old didn't have the nerve to kick off though

Re: Niko steals Hoggs try
I thought it quite funny - although I actually do think that Hogg has a little bit of an attitude problem
In most matches there seems to be a little bit of heat boiling under the skin
Not that it is a real issue, but I think he does have a temper and as long as he does control it, then it will likely be part of what makes him a great player
