Champions League final thread
First topic message reminder :
7:45pm. Lisbon. Madrid Derby
Doesn't get much bigger than this!
Benzema and Pepe doubts for Real, appears Costa may make it for Atletico
I can't call it, I hope Atletico do it for not only our resident Madrid fan Kia, but also to top off a fairytale season.
Can't beat a bit of champions league anthem

If Bale, Ronaldo and Co can't get past Godin then I don't see Welbeck and Sturridge fairing much better.
Credit to Simeone, incredible achievement regardless of if they go on to win this. Is this the birth of the 'Special One Part II'...
No because I'm waiting for the Special One part I.
And don't be killing Duty's dreams like that!

Well, in that semi and the final.
If everyone played the same way the same teams would always win things. Sports need "boring" teams and "hoof ball" teams to add variety and shocks.

Are Atletico going to lose 2 CLs (not finals for the smart arses) on injury time goals

Ramos is a prime time player. An absolute beast. Expect him to get a red card, or miss a penalty in the next 40 minutes

Well as Kia has said Atletico have shown great character and resolve this season, this is the ultimate test of that now...

If he played for, lets say, Liverpool, he'd be a pr!ck but yeah when he keeps his mouth shut and actually plays the game he's decent.

Will Bale pull a Ramsey and redeem himself in extra time.
Ronaldo show up?
Villa remind the world of his talent?

Torres had a better final and he only played 10 minutes.
Re: Champions League final thread
Fascinating Nick. I was just wondering to myself what Chelsea spin could we apply to this final.

Glad I could be of assistance. Although I was going for the "crap player" angle rather than Chelsea comparison.

I was thinking that the 1970 FA Cup winning Chelsea side would have held out them last couple of minutes of normal time.

Re: Champions League final thread
Given the attacking talent it's disgusting that Real have barely put a good ball into the box tonight!
And why no one takes the ball of Ronaldo on a free kick is beyond me; he really isn't that good at them. Stat on ESPN or some site the other day that stated he has only scored 6 FK from 90 odd attempts this season!

Think Real snatch this in the second half of extra time

Re: Champions League final thread
6/90 is decent going. Beckham only has about 45 career FK goals, so would need to have taken less than 675 for a better record.

Neither as good as Yaya Toure this season though. It was a scary conversion rate, wasn't it?

Re: Champions League final thread
I really hope this doesn't go to penalties. If I was in charge of UEFA I'd make the Champions League and Europa League finals golden goal and if nobody scores in the 30 minutes they play another 30 minutes.

And after them 30 minutes?
I'd like to see run ins from the halfway line ala Ice Hockey.

This idea is from ice hockey. In the playoffs if nobody scores in overtime they just carry on until someone scores. Game between Chicago and St Louis started 1am UK time and finished at 5:30 last month. Winner scored near the start of the 3rd overtime.
How ironic that I just saw Gareth Fail is trending on twitter.

Townsend appeared to take personal delight at that goal.
Atletico have been gone since the 80th minute.
