Froch VS Groves Weigh In Scheduled for 4pm Friday
Carl Froch has won what may be the most important of all the fights before Saturday night’s Battle of Britain with George Groves at Wembley.
The key battleground, to put it in political parlance, has been the timing of the weigh-in.
This issue has proved even more contentious than the disputes over who should referee Froch-Groves II and which judges should be scoring at ringside.
For Groves, naturally the bigger and heavier man, the earlier the better when it comes to stepping on the scales the day before the fight.
For Froch, the less time his world title challenger has to recover from draining down to the 12 stone super-middleweight limit and then gainingextra poundage, so much the better.
London’s Saint George is understood to have argued for the weigh-in to take place no later than 1 pm on Friday.
Froch is pleased it is being scheduled three hours later for Sky Sports television.
This has been the most private of the many pre-fight disputes.
So much so that it was not even raised during their verbal show-down on Sky’s Gloves Are Off television special which aired at the weekend.
Not even when the confrontation ended with a handshake which turned into momentary arm-wrestling.
Quite what that little skirmish proved only the combatants themselves might tell us.

Re: Froch VS Groves Weigh In Scheduled for 4pm Friday
I read this earlier this evening. Also read a comment by Froch that Groves is a natural light heavy and has to cut 8lbs in the final stages of training which has a negative impact on his stamina, whereas he (Froch) always walks around at just over 12st anyway.
Groves is certainly stockier than the wiry Froch despite being over an inch shorter, but does anyone think that losing 3 hours of rehydration time will really have that much of an effect on him? Genuine question. Also, anyone know Groves ring weight for the last fight?

Ohhhh I hate stuff like this so soon before a fight. Now if Groves loses he has a ready made excuse.

Groves weighed in something like 166lbs last time did he not? Didn't seem to have any problem making weight so I would personally be quite suprised if it makes a tremendous difference.

Re: Froch VS Groves Weigh In Scheduled for 4pm Friday
Suspect the whole 'fuss' Groves has supposedly kicked up over this was really just a part of the ol' mind games he loves so much. The idea being that every little thing he can get in his advantage is a mental blow to Carl and a boost to him, and all that jazz. I reckon he probably couldn't give two hoots about whether the weigh in is at 1 or 4 pm.
He's naturally a heavier-set and broader guy than Froch but at the end of the day, it's three hours. They'll both be fine getting themselves re-fuelled over night after the weigh in, I'm sure. Froch usually gets in the ring in the 172, 173 lb range and I don't think Groves will be more than a few lb higher than that. Apparently both him and Degale were 176 when they boxed. He's a bit older and established at the weight now, so he might be a pinch heavier than that on the night, but not by much I'd imagine. Certainly didn't seem huge last November when that bell went, anyway.

Much a do about publicity I'd guess. Column inches get wrote over disputes. Which all adds to the publicity required for a ppv event.

Groves looks gaunt with very little muscle and is two pounds under..........He looks like Curry before Honeyghan...
It's like a super midd vs a super welter.............
I fancied Froch to win before now I fancy him BIG !!

Re: Froch VS Groves Weigh In Scheduled for 4pm Friday
I'm shocked at Groves appearance..........Either he's very nervous or he's over trained...
That stupid grin at the stare down didn't do him any favors.....
If body language wins fights...........Froch ko 1..

That's just how Groves is, having a pasty complexion he's never going to look ripped but Froch as ever looks in superb nick. If only more boxers didn't drain down and lived a healthy life.

Groves looked in better shape last time.........More muscled......
I don't know over the last few weeks there has been a change in the dynamic.........Froch just looks super confident........
I'll be shocked If he loses..

Re: Froch VS Groves Weigh In Scheduled for 4pm Friday
Wasn't sure what to make of Groves appearance; does look slimmer than last time out..though he looked more toned in his mid section. I don't think he looked particularly drained...given his success when boxing and using his speed last time out perhaps he has built for that this time around?
As for Froch great condition as always; looked far calmer than last time out...though interesting to note he was the one doing all the talking at the face-off this time.
Beers are in the fridge; nights worth of munchies are in, just the take out to order tomorrow night!

This is getting interesting. I am not really reading anything into this - Groves looks much the same to me as he did last time. I think it'll still be a cracker of a fight

Not sure what pics people have been seeing but Groves looks in great shape especially in the one where he's doing the double biceps thing. Froch is always in good condition but I think Groves looks even better this time round.
Can't decide between
1/ Grove inside eight
2/ Groves comfortably on points.
3/ Froch by scrappy late stoppage after it's clear he needs three KO's just to get a draw.
Not really fussed just as long as it's a good fight

I'll be watching it down the local with a few sherbets in hand. South Wales, so a very pro-Groves crowd, no doubt.

True. Although I think in this fight its the whole of the UK that is pro-Groves apart from a few Team SlimstersDipper Brown wrote:I'll be watching it down the local with a few sherbets in hand. South Wales, so a very pro-Groves crowd, no doubt.

Re: Froch VS Groves Weigh In Scheduled for 4pm Friday
Groves got lots of cheers. The slimster Froch got booed but once that had stopped you could hear a few repulsive accents in the backround singing that annoying 'One Carl the Cobra' song. Generally though Groves seemed to be the hero and Froch the villain

Re: Froch VS Groves Weigh In Scheduled for 4pm Friday
Both seemed to get booed more than cheered, to me. I think Groves will get the majority of the support tonight, there'll be a lot of part timers in the audience (don't begrudge them, just a fact) and the fight is sold on the injustice of the first fight. Groves is the hero
