Swimming and weight lifting
How well do these two exercises go together? Do they compliment each other or is it counter-productive?

They could go together very easily. If swimming is the priorty I would recommend a couple of weight sessions a week. You could do an upper body day and then a lower body day. If you fancy a 3rd session you could add in assitance exercises to strengthen weak areas.

Re: Swimming and weight lifting
Interesting thread and I'll tell you a story from the Crypt.....
Years ago I had reached a plateau on the incline Dumbbell press.........I don't know maybe 8 x 105 or something and I'd been stuck there for a few weeks...
Went on holiday to Marbella with Jo and Robby and all I did for exercise was swim for two weeks.....
Well obviously I did other exercise we won't go into !!
However.........Came back got two more reps..........
However I wouldn't suggest combining the both If your aim is to grow big......
Because rest is so important when trying to gain and swimming will eat into the time your muscle needs to rest...
But have a week doing swimming instead........Mix it up..

I have to be escorted to the urinals these days. Under Doctor's orders not to lift heavy weights.
