Wow...that's some RG recovery allowance timewise to ensure the marquee names show!

Well, they only have four rounds for the top seeds. Next year, you'll see changes, with Halle and Queen's bumped up to 500-pt tourneys and starting a week later.

Guess they knew it had to be Thurs starts to attract the big guns to Halle. Nadal must still be cream crackered though. Probably win 1-2 matches, collect the appearance fee and run.

Nadal's last appearance was just one match won, IIRC. He did lose to Kohli in the next match.

and they will meet again on fruday if nadal beats dustin brown
doubt nadal can win that match against a good grass courter as kohli

I am confused. Isn't Nadal the favourite for Wimbledon? Or at least one of them so he should be warm favourite to beat Kohlschreiber.

No, Nadal is the favourite and if he loses it's because he's injured. Or something.

Nadal being taken to task again.
Give him a chance, please!
Dustin played well at W 2013, it should be a good outing for Nadal before he can get to Kohli.

No not you naxroy. Just those that (on the other thread) are out to claim Rafa as the favourite for Wimbledon - the fact that you see Rafa as vulnerable just echos why all is certainly not cut and dried for him at SW19.

The "Old Man" came out today, rather than TMF. The FH and BH were abysmal with errors flowing like tears. My spouse thinks that having the first set of twins, he became ATP #2, and now with four children, he will become a fixture at ATP #4.
PS: A third set of twins would be .

So Fed won nearing the 2hr mark...amazed it went that long with Fed serving at 83% for 1st serves...must mean his ground game was horrible. He'll be feeling his legs on Sunday if he keeps playing for 2hrs daily...

@TSJ.. Quite true.
@Lydian... I would give him credit for trying to keep the points short. At 4-2 in the TB, I was thinking that Sousa would send him home, but the FH winner (and he had SPs too) were frittered away.
Looking forward to Nadal-Brown.

he is vulnerable, but he could still be considered favourite in some way, . I dont say he is top favourite, but he is one of the 4-5 names that I think can win there.
let me explain
2007, lost to mahut (106) in third match at queens, and still got to the final at wimbledon and forced a 5th set to a peak roger
2010, lost to feliciano (31) in third match at queens, and still won wimbledon
2011, lost to tsonga (19) in third match at queens and later he got to the final in wimbledon
kohli is 29 right now. so it is normal to think he can beat nadal in a good day. therefore I think nadal is vulnerable, but still think (or wish) he could do good at wimbly, but what can make me think he could have an option?:
despite the last two failures here, one cannot underrate the fact that nadal has reached final in 4 of the last 5 slams, and he is a guy who made 5 finals in this tournament (2006-11)

I would put it the right way, he is vulnerable but yet could be considered the favorite,
2012, He was a favorite but ended up losing in Round 2 to Rosol , he was a fav but he was vulnerable to big hitters on their day in grass and hence the outcome.
2013, He was a top favorite in 2013 Wimbledon with a long win streak prior to the tournament but yet lost in the 1st to little known Darcis.
So Nadal is favorite but vulnerable at the start of the tournament in grass.

A little glimpse of what 90's grass court tennis would look like for Rafa if he played against a good player. Brown is nothing special - and might just as easily blow up - but the pace and bounce kills him.

Re: 2014 Halle
Brown's another Monfils or Gulbis - could turn up and hammer you 2 and 2 in 45 minutes on the right court. Alternatively, he could himself be hammered 2 and 2 in 45 minutes.

Dustin Brown's used the theory 'hit and hope' well today.
Looks good when it comes off. On another day Brown will dish up close to 40 U/Es

Quite funny play really, Rafa didn't see the joke though.
The difference with a fast low bouncing court is immense though. Wimbledon is now closer to Roland Garros than this place.

I don't think grass is Nadal's surface these days. He could do with a good draw at Wimbledon but as a Murray fan I hope he gets a bad one (in Murray's half though ).

Re: 2014 Halle
Wimb is nothing like Roland Garros...or else every RG quarterfinalist these past few years would do similar at Wimb...they havent.
Halle has been a joke for Nadal since 2012...he just turns for the massive appearance fee they bribed him with to switch allegiance from Queens. Also, the guy was basically bent over double a few days ago cramping all over the shop, did anyone seriously expect him to turn up just a few days later unadjusted to quick grass and put in a 100% performance? Dream on...he'll be half way to Majorca already having phoned ahead to his mates to get his fishing reels ready for tomorrow. In other words, he wont be losing any sleep, just checking his bank balance.

Wimbledon isn't like Roland Garros..... but it is closer to that than Halle.
Did you watch the match? Rafa was a spectator, didn't get the chance to play badly. Fast grass can do that to great slower court players.

Not too surprised, Brown can do that and thats what can happen to Rafa at Wimby in the early rounds, but no disaster as of yet. Murray was surprising too but these two play better in slams

Re: 2014 Halle
@ BB, Rafa would be humbled bu players like Goran, Krajicek let alone Sampras at 90's conditions
@Flazy21, Brown has beaten Hewitt in a hard court or a grass [not sure which one] but if he did it in grass thats a bigger achievement than this game.

Yea and he always will be given his 100% win record on all surfaces when proven fit.
Chuck Norris once won a arm wrestling contest versus Rafa but that was only coz Rafa wasn't fully fit and was still trying to be 200% fit by working out 500%.

I think the September DC tie of SUI v ITA should be played on Grass.
Wawrinka took out Querrey, the Queens champion 2010.
Fognini and Seppi would not like Grass.

Great I was trying to re-collect that match, beating Hewitt on Wimbledon in a 3 setter is much difficult to beating this Rafa on Halle in 2 sets.
The local crowds will be happy to coz their local hero beat the world no.1, to be frank the best match to lose for Rafa, in my view he timed it perfectly.

Federer and Wawrinka = SUI DC + both playing better than their peers -> Suggestion to SUI organizers. Is that all right, TotC?

A memorable shot, IMVHO. The score line was 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-2.
