Tactics:
Basel vs Bordeaux
Basel feedback: I like the attack of a big man and quick striker, not a fan of Blind in CM or of either of your CB's. Also like the idea with Lallana/Johnson on the wing, allowing Febian to bomb on as Lallana drifts inside.
Bordeaux feedback: Fantastic CB pairing, and solid in CM, not a great fan of your attacking options or Rosicky wide.
Overall game: Interesting match this one, both teams have quality in certain areas that I think even out, with Basel better in attack but Bordaux better in the defence. I think Basel just shade it, because I always prefer the attacking side and I think the Johnson/Lallana tactic works well.
Bremen vs Twente
Bremen feedback: Don't like the passive approach, although I understand it to some extent. Think you are better than you think, and could play a more dominant game. I'd look to improve the defence myself.
Twente feedback: Unsure of the Scottish fetish, Gauld is a player who is very unproven. Other than that I like your side, your CM pairing is decent enough, maybe need a real electriying winger.
Overall game: I think Twente take this game, but only 1-0 as I think Bremen are better than they give themselves credit for.
Getafe vs Genk
Getafe feedback: One make sure you're playing the right team. I like the experience in the side, although your spine is strong, your weak out wide, which is where I'd improve next.
Genk feedback: One of the strongest sides in the league for me. I think you need someone alongside Van Buyten in defence who is better than easily best side out there.
Overall game: Genk take this one for me, I like the attacking intent and I think they overwhelm the Getafe side who despite having an extra CM don't take advantage.
Granada vs Palermo
Granada feedback: Good solid side this, think you could improve at FB, but love the front three. Midfield is a nice balance too.
Palermo feedback: Interesting formation, I like the outside the box thinking. Not sure you have the quality to play it though, CB's not great.
Overall game: Good game this one, I think Palermo have success going forward with the numbers they have, but ultimately I don't think they handle the Granada front three with the midfielders coming from deep.
Verona vs Montpellier
Verona feedback: Love love love the three behind Toni, great mix of power and pace. Not a fan of the two CM's, but you've made good solid defensive improvements to the side.
Montpellier feedback: Think the side might have one too many in the middle of the park, I don't like Bentaleb used like that, another striker might've been more effective. Your defence, and wing backs best in the league for me tho.
Overall game: Interesting affair, Montpellier clearly defensively sound, but I don't think they have the counter threat to take full advantage of a good gameplan. Verona have good penetration from the three behind Toni.

Tactics:
Basel vs Bordeaux
- Basel:
- ------------------Sommer------------------
Johnson-----Schar-------Suchy----Safari
--------------Blind------Eleny-----------
Lallana-----------------------------Stocker
-----------------Campbell--------------
------------------Streller---------------
Subs , Sio ,
Defence
, CB will mark zonal if two and Schar will man mark with 1, both FBs will push forward and look to overlap and deliver balls for Streller , but only in moderation and one at a time, play direct to Streller when clearing and use him to make attacks.
Midfield
Blind and Eleny will sit back and both look to snuff out the opposition midfield, they will take turns in engaging the midfielders while the other sits back, The 2 wingers will mix it up but most play will result with it towards the 2 attackers, either ply into the feet of Campbell of long to Streller , also many crosses to utilise the big man, lallana will draft in to drg the LB in for Jonhson to bomb past, stocker will stay wider and look for more crosses.
Both to ways track back.
Striker, target man role for Streller look to get in the box for crosses and knock down to the 3 attacking mids , look to get tough early and dominate e CB throughout, Campbell will look to link with the midfielder and work off Streller, Campbell will inject pace in the middle of the park and constantly move the modified around, look for knock down and take of the cbs with your pace, also look to Harry there DM/playmaking CM all game and shadow him throughout
- Bordeaux:
- -----------Carrasso
Arias --Laporte -Umtiti --Maxwell
-------Sertic --Cheryou
Belay -------Jojic-------Rosicky
-----------Jussie
Subs: Olimpa,Mariano,Orban,Henrique,N'Guemo,Poko,Bellion
Team Talk: Up against Cherries. No idea what he'll turn up with but shall go on the attack and look to press him high up the pitch.
Defensive Tactics
- Look to squeeze up the field and force Streller away from the goal, Campbell will try run on so keep a line and step out when need to.
- Umtiti to look after Campbell if starts up top, Other Laporte to clear up if Streller gets in behind, Full backs to make wingers cut inside so can't cross
- Sertic/Cheryou to keep tight to Lallana and make sure he can't create.
Attacking Tactics
- Jussie to play on the last defender and look to get in behind,
- Belay to take on the LB with his pace.
- Jojic to get on the ball and look to create and play balls in behind their full backs for wingers
- Rosicky to get at Johnson as he'll go up and down the wing to make him more interested in defending.
Sub - Bellion on for Jussie if 2 goals up for Poopie and giggles,N'Guemo for Cheryou after 75 mins to get more legs in midfield
- Bremen:
- Injuries: Theodor Gebre Selassie, Philipp Bargfrede, Martin Kobylansk
------------Wolf-------------
Zander-Prodl-Lukimya-Garcia
------Kroos---Junuzovic-----
----------Obraniak-----------
Elia-------Petersen-----Bartels
4-3-3 formation.
Defensive Instructions - We are up against a strong attacking team today with a great manager. I want us to have almost 2 sets of 4 defenders in defensive situations to double up and support each other. We may come under a lot of pressure and i want us to be ready for that, we need to start winning games and we need to be able to stop conceeding goals. Be patient when defending as like i said before we may not have the ball as much in this game as i imagine that FC Twente will attack a lot. Elia and Bartels you will both need to get back and double up to support Garcia and Zander, as this is where i feel we will get attacked a lot.
Attacking instructions - Be patient whilst defending today, we may do quite a bit of it as we are up against a strong side. I want us to use the counter attack to our advantage as it is something i feel we can be good at. When the chance is given, look to get out and attack as soon as possible and put the opposition under immediate pressure. Elia and Bartels i want you both to be key to this system today by putting in a huge shift in the wide areas in both attack and defence. I don't want us to park the bus so to speak though, every opportunity given i want us to be attacking and getting at the back line of FC Twente.
Subs:
70th minute: Beister to come on for Petersen.
75th minute: Ekici to come on for Obraniak
80th minute: Makiadi to come on for Junuzovic.
- Twente:
- ----------------Marsman-----------------
-Rosales-Bengtsson-Martins Indi-Schilder-
-----------------Tiago-Rabiot---------------
---Corona-----------Gauld----------Tadic
-------------------Castaignos----------------
Teamtalk:
Great first week performance under my helm and immediately I've moved to strengthen the squad with a more powerful spine to the team of Martins Indi, Rabiot and 'McMessi' Ryan Gauld. We're aware our opponents are weak at RB and this is made worse by an injury to their main FB so we're looking to target down that flank with Tadic coming inside and working a triangle with Gauld and Castaignos.
Defence
Martins Indi comes in to add an increased physical presence to the back line, with the pairing of Tiago and Rabiot sitting in front and cutting off supply. FBs to harass their wingers sown the outside not letting them turn you and block crosses. When our team loses possession high up field use intelligent fouling to ensure counter attacks are nullified before they can break.
Attack
Gauld given freedom to move as and where he likes to drag any markers with him, look though to link up with Tadic and target their weak right defence. Castaignos to stay deep, drift offside at times and force their defence to drop back with you to create the space for Gauld and Tadic to exploit.
Subs: 70m McCormack for Corona, go 4-4-2 with Gauld moving to RW.
- Getafe:
- Getafe vs Bremen
Buffon
Arroyo Lopez Terry Lago
Clasie Lacen
Leon Totti Lafita
Di Natale
Injuries
Juan Valera
Pedro Musquera
Ciprian Marica
DEFENSIVE TACTICS
FB to keep wingers on the outside, Terry pick up main striker, Lopez spare man watching for any attacker. Clasie and Lacen to pick up opposition midfielders closing them down quickly forcing them backwards. Wingers to track back, Totti to sit on the DM and Di Natale to sit on the CB to slow down their flow.
ATTACKING TACTICS
FB attack one at a time giving us width, Clasie to start our moves and Lacen to keep it simple. Leon to give us width and Lafita cuts in working centrally both provide balls to our attack. Totti look for gaps and play through balls and get forward Di Natale play as a poacher and on the last defender finding space.
- Genk:
- Koteles
Durm Kara van Buyten Shaw
Maggio Aranguiz Diaz Depay
Mboyo Klose
BENCH
van Hout
Ngconga
Hamalanien
Kumordzi

TACTICS
We are going to play a game focussing on wing play this week, getting the ball out wide and looking to dominate there. They have instructed the full backs to keep the pitch narrow, but we will look to get very wide. If they get tight, then this will stretch the defense, if they don't, then we have a lot of room to get loads of crosses into the box. The full backs have license to push up and overlap, or undercut the wingers. Mboyo is a good physical player and should look to head the ball home, and Klose sneak around the box with his clever movement. Avoid Terry, go for the weaker centre back, and look to cross the ball low.
Defensively, van Buyten is the leader at the back and should organize the back four, defending in two banks of four. Our Chilean central midfield pairing should focus on protecting the back four, limiting the space Totti has to get forward, and look to cover that zone. The two strikers should stay high up the pitch, which limits them getting men forward to join their attacks.
- Granada:
- Granada Tactics versus Palermo
Injuries
Allan Nyom
Davy Klaassen
Ron Vlaar
Starting XI
Abbiati
Foulquier---Veltman---Mainz----Kurzawa
Ledesma----Iturra---Recio
Brahimi------Gilardino------Januzaj
Subs: Fernandez, Angulo, Murillo, Coeff, Rico, Piti, Benitez, Riki
General: Direct attacking football, with plenty of movement and quick passing.
Attacking Tactics:
Gilardino to play as main focal point, with the two wingers either side of him, both interchanging and making it hard to pick them up. Quick, pacey pass and move, not giving opposition time to settle. Ledesma as playmaker, dictating our play, Recio playing box to box joining attack when we go forward. Full backs getting forward and overlapping the widemen.
Defensive Tactics:
Back four to stay back. Midfield 3 to sit in front and protect, Brahimi and Januzaj to support FBs when we are defending. Pressing from the front to ease work load on midfield and defence.
Subs:
Losing on 70 minutes, Recio off, Riki on, go 4-4-2
- Palermo:
- Ujkani
Kongolo - Terzi - Mustafi
Bacinovic
Perisic - Barreto - Verre - Daprela
Markovic - Dybala
Looks odd right? Well this is how I'm setting up against Afro's fast paced and fluid front 4.
Defensive
The general idea is to form a back three with mobile defenders on the edges to be aware of threats from the wings, and Terzi to stay central and pick Gilardino up in the 18 yard box.
Bacinovic sits in front of the three and takes control of the AM coming through the middle, first by clogging him a bit, then by sticking to him and getting in his face when he's laying the ball off. He will track any runners into the box.
The wingers are also tasked with some defending and they will first track back to help the defenders out with the wingers, and then ensure the fullbacks get into support and give 2 on 1 situations.
Attacking
Relatively simple attacking plan, emphasizing possession between the central midfield trio, and using the wings to stretch the field.
Markovic will be deeper than Dybala and will come looking for the ball and be the advanced playmaker trying to make something happen in the final third.
Dybala will stay high and use his pace and movement around the 18 yard box looking to get on to crosses, get in behind or open up space for Markovic to create in.
- Verona:
- Navas
Cassani-Gonzalez-Distin-Van Aanholt
Donadel-Hallfredsson
Gomez-------------------Iturbe
Sterling
Toni
Tactics:
Fluid front 3 behind Toni to rotate throughout the match. The trio also becomes narrower when out of possession, hassling Pirlo and preventing him making significant passes downfield. Toni to act as a targetman, occupying the CBs and preventing them coming out to deal with the AM. Midfield sits deeper to cover attacking FBs. In possession we want to play a higher tempo game, preventing the opposition from settling.
Attacking:
FBs to overlap and add extra width to attack. Front 3 will rotate throughout the game, find the space, if their midfield covers wide then use the middle and vice versa. Look to get plenty of crosses into Toni, or get it into his feet if deeper where he can lay it off to an attacker.
Defending:
Midfield will sit deeper to account for when the FBs get forward, and to cut off supply through the middle when the FBs are back. Front 3 to harrass Pirlo and Bentaleb, preventing them to getting their heads up.
- Montpellier:
- HSC Montpellier tactics vs Verona:
–––––––––––––––––––– Jourdren –––––––––––––
–––––––– Romagnoli –– De Vrij –– Congre –––––
Chambers ––– Stambouli ––––– Pirlo –––––– Tiene
––––––––––––– Bentaleb –––– Green –––––––––––
–––––––––––––––––––– Niang ––––––––––––––––
Subs: Pionnier, El Kaoutari, Hilton, Bocaly, Mounier, Ait-Fana, Montano
Injuries: Zakaria Bakkali + Rémy Cabella + Jamel Saihi
Attacking instructions:
- Niang to run across the line, make darting runs between CBs and make the CBs uncertain as to your movement. Bentaleb and Green must both play free roles, make a nuisance of yourself and attack the defence at every opportunity.
- Pirlo to orchestrate from deep, seek out Niang, Bentaleb and Green’s runs ahead and those of Chambers and Tiene out wide.
- FBs to join attacks sensibly, provide an overlap and get crosses into the box. When FBs attack, Stambouli and Pirlo will cover for them, allowing the FBs to join the attack and beat the opposition FBs to get crosses in to the box.
Defending instructions:
- Soak up the pressure, then hit Verona on the counter. The young legs and pace of Bentaleb, Green and Niang will be far too much for them to handle – keep the game tight, win the ball and spring the counter quickly.
- CBs to keep a good shape, keep a good line and ensure communication is clear at all times. De Vrij to be the man-marker of the main striker – keep tight on him. FBs to keep wingers out wide, and don’t let them cross at any time. Force them inside if you have to so that Pirlo and Stambouli can deal with them.
- Stambouli, Bentaleb and Green to chase and harry the opposition with their youth to allow Pirlo space to launch the counter attack when we win the ball back.
Sub on 70mins:
Ait-Fana on for Stambouli. Bentaleb drops back alongside Pirlo, Ait-Fana has a free role to do whatever he pleases. Run at the defence, cross for Niang, whatever he can to crack the Verona defence.
Last 10 minutes instructions:
- If winning, keep closing down the ball and keep the opposition away from goal.
- If drawing, keep the game tight but look to spring Niang and Ait-Fana with their pace.
- If losing, push de Vrij up front and give the FBs more freedom to attack so that Pirlo, Romagnoli and Congre can marshal the back line and play passes forward to get the goal we need.
