Teddy Atlas on the judge from the Alvarez v Lara fight
This is interesting. Especially the bit regarding the last round in the fight.
Teddy Atlas, expert analyst for ESPN's Friday Night Fights, absolutely exploded over the subject of Levi Martinez's 117-111 scorecard in last week's fight between WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-2-2, 12KOs) and Saul "Canelo' Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs), which took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Canelo won a split decision in a very close fight. One Judge scored it 115-113 for Canelo, while another had it 115-113 for Lara. But Martinez had it one way, with Canelo getting a wide nod of 117-111. And what stood out to most was Martinez scoring the final round in favor of Lara, where nearly everyone else had scored the round for Canelo.
"115-113 I get, fine, whatever your flavor is. But Levi Martinez, 117-111, are you kidding me? Will you throw that guy out of here. That's not right. You fans at home [watching this video], are you not insulted by that score? I don't care if you are part of the maniac Canelo fan base, and I love you for it - root for your guy - but c'mon, be honest for a minute...117-111 either way, whether you are a Lara fan or a Canelo fan - that doesn't insult your intelligence? That doesn't feel like someone is doing something wrong to the sport. Please, c'mon, get rid of this guy," Atlas sounded off to BoxingScene.com.
"Here is the worst part about it. Eight straight rounds, Levi Martinez, had for Canelo. Nobody else had close to that. You're going to tell me he won eight straight rounds? I'm going to tell you no, he didn't win eight straight rounds. But then at the end of the fight, everyone said Canelo won the last round. And the two judges who had it 115-113, who were in the ballpark, they had Canelo winning that round, rightfully so. Where do you think Martinez goes? Martinez gives it to Lara."
"[He gave Canelo] eight straight rounds, he looked at his card and said 'oh my God, wow, this looks like I made the card up yesterday. You know what, I better throw one over here to Lara to make it look like I was fair, to make it look like I was doing my job.' You know what that was like, that was like robbing a bank. You're robbing a bank, the alarms are sounding off and you walk out and you know that people are going to accuse you of robbing a bank."
"You don't want them to accuse you of robbing a bank so all of a sudden you put on a pair of sunglasses on and a use a [walking] stick. And you start whacking the stick around and people say 'oh, it couldn't have been him, he's blind.' For me, that's what Martinez did. The alarms were going off and Martinez said 'it couldn't have been me, I did nothing wrong, 'look I gave a round to Lara.'"

I like Teddy Atlas a lot and he's got a massive point. These judges need to be held accountable because that was a shocking card.

This is a good point raised by Atlas and fair play for saying it. It seems many in the industry don't openly criticise they need to.
In the 60 seconds between rounds, judges should write a very short sentence/points as to why they the scored the round they did.

They should just score it fairly. The point Atlas is making is that the judge knew full well his card was a shocker (it would have 118-110 Alvarez if he had scored the last round correctly) so he deliberately scored the last round to Lara to try and make things look slightly better.

If you can get away with Ramirez-Whittaker...You can get away with anything..
Don't know why people bother getting upset it's not just Mexicans getting homers...
It's everywhere....Look at the London Olympics..Not even the amateurs are safe..

Atlas obviously hasn't forgiven Canelo for losing to Floyd

Because if nothing ever gets said, then it won't just carry on it will get a lot worse. There's enough bad decisions and cards as it is.

Now think how worse it would be if everybody just sat back and accepted it.
I'd rather it was spoken about every time it happened and the more high profile people in the sport do it the better.
(Would be nice to see the boxers themselves doing it but you can't have everything)

I know it was mentioned on Boxnation and on Skysports news but I didn't know it was mentioned on HBO as well, didn't know the American audience knew about 606 that well for it to be brought up on American shows.
