The human windmill - favour required.
First topic message reminder :
As many of you will remember, when this site was set up, I asked the poster on here called the human windmill to be responsible for the boxing side of things.
As you all know, he didn't just take ownership of the boxing site, he gained the respect of every single poster in this section. He spent a huge amount of time keeping this place going.
Over time, Simon and I became friends and he let me know about his illness which eventually claimed his life. During the last few weeks of his life, I began talking to his wife and we still keep in touch since his death. Unfortunately, since Simons passing, she has found things tough financially and has had to resort to selling some of Simons boxing memorabilia to make ends meet.
The reason for this message is that she has asked me to see if I can find a buyer for a particular collection of Simons. So I thought I would post it on here to see if the posters on here are interested in buying the item in question. Please only make serious offers for the item - I don't want to make an already sad situation worse by giving Simons widow false hope.
The item in question is described by Elisa below:
collection of boxing cards. it's 50 cards from W.A. & A.C. Churchman. I don't know which year they are from but they must be at least 60 years old.
Simon always said that collectors would love to have them.
I will post a picture tomorrow of the cards in question. I have no idea of their value or what she would like for them. But if you are interested please drop me an email with your interest to boxing@v2journal.com
Thanks for reading and hopefully we can not only help Simons widow but also get a really nice collection for someone.

Can we first see if Windy's missus/kids would rather keep the cards as a memento of him?
If they still want to sell them, then fair enough but I think it'd be nice for them to keep them if they want too.

Re: The human windmill - favour required.
606v2 could make up a T-shirt with the V2 logo on it and sell it for £15-20.
It would have the benefit of people getting something for their donation while also having people walking around providing V2 with free advertising.
Actually scrap that as standard X-large t-shirts won't fit the fat b@st@rds around here. Having to manufacture special sizes for the humble fat boys will cost so much it will defeat the purpose of trying to raise money.
Toppy you weighed more than 23 and a half stone at 6'3"............ WTF!!!!!!!!!!

He was before my time but for some reason I have respect for the guy. My suggestion is:
Set up a Just Giving account (..or something along those lines), post the link and I'm sure (or at least hope) people will give.
20 quid guaranteed from me; anything to help a widow.
No pressure to donate - donate what you can afford. The wife should be allowed to hold on to Windy's memories - Windy's memorabilia.

The thing is the boxing section wouldn't exist on this site without Windy and despite all my previous indiscretions he was always happy to suggest fights to watch and fighters to research.

People like you take the banter too far, so what if he was overweight? I'm 5'10 and 160lbs and I think its awesome he's losing the weight, I see idiots like you at the gym taking the p!ss out of fat people, while you throw weights on the floor and make loud noises and I think, you know what - this guy is clearly doing something about his weight. Deserves respect for that, not mockery, clown.

That's the spirit Derby, the medical and fitness industries would collapse without the fatties.

Re: The human windmill - favour required.
Indeed the fitness industry thrives on fatties without self worth and gym monkey alpha males who seek to atone for their lack of personality by building the perfect body. Of course it's usually their idea of the perfect body, which most normal people think looks ridiculous but hey if you get off on that and bragging about how much you can bench press, good for you I say.
An industry for the sad and the shallow.
At least, that's how I've been able to self justify not going to the gym whilst reaching for another slice of chocolate cake.

It's ok Jab, tbh I didn't think Strongy was actually trying/being mean - it was quite an extraordinary feat (sadly).
If I'm completely truthful, then I actually weighed more than that, I was essentially a sphere - 156.5kg at 1.9m with a body fat % probably about inline with a pork scratching.
That was around the turn of the year. Weighed in on Friday at 113kg. Target weight: 105kg.

Try insanity mate. Lost 20lb in about 6 weeks, absolutely awesome.
Really just bog standard circuits akin to them used in the army or boxing gyms, but gives structure and motivation to the workouts.

Absolute killer when you first do it, I'm restarting mine tonight after a few weeks off due to family issues and can't wait. Toppy I highly recomend Insanity, 45 minutes a night so it's not too much time either.

Re: The human windmill - favour required.
I'm ticking along ok at the moment. Next step is beginning cycling into work (bike already ordered) as that's 45 mins each way.
Once I've hit target weight I'll be changing things up again though, as need to start eating more/a healthier amount again and will hopefully have the fitness to try something like Insanity by that point.

Re: The human windmill - favour required.
It's sad that this discussion has degenerated into something quite purile! Especially as I am in shock at reading the original article. As a few might know I was an avid contributor to the old 606 forum but sadly have only been on here intermittently.
Much my memories are thus of the old forum and the amazing contributors on there, good bad and ugly. Of all of my old peers Windy was a colossus! Knowledgable, erudite and could more than hold his own in the banter stakes. It is sad to hear of his passing and just as devastating to hear about his wife's plight. Once it is decided how we can contribute to a fund please post the information as I will be more than happy to contribute to my old compadre Windy.

Personally I think Windy would have been unsurprised nay delighted that a thread had descended into quarter-wittery and that whilst we'd taken the time to express our dismay at the current plight of his widow, we weren't so wrapped up in our sorrow that we'd neglected to take the p!ss out of fat people.

Re: The human windmill - favour required.
As Steve Bunce was kind enough to comment on Windy's passing on his show, perhaps we could drop him a line to see if he can suggest what the best course of action might be re this. He might even be able to open up the floor wider than just this forum. A man with his connections might just hit upon a plan that makes Windy's missus a few quid

V good idea. Was it one of the mod team that got him to mention Windy previously? Maybe they could re-make contact.
Have been looking into boxing memorabilia museums and it's a pretty poor show so far, lots of 'online' ones but nothing I really want to trust to donate anything to.

I think this is one thread that needs to keep to the OP. One of the most knowledgeable and witty posters on here, fond memories of the old BBC days.
Iam in to donate, think setting up a PayPal account is the easiest method to send money this way and let his family do with the memorabilia as they wish.

Hi guys - I am going to look into this over the weekend and get something moving on it. Sorry for the delay - been ultra busy.
Re: The human windmill - favour required.
I've looked at a few of the 'giving' websites and they all needed you to link through to a registered charity who's also registered on the site.
Couldn't find any credible sporting memorabilia museums either, surprisingly.
Had a brief look at Kickstarter but gave up as the page wouldn't load properly on my work comp.....

Re: The human windmill - favour required.
Am part way through setting one up, just to see how Razr works, and it looks like it links donations through to a paypal account anyway.
So, other than the fact we can simply publish a link to the fundraising page on v2 and also use it to promote the cause (Twitter etc), other practicalities are basically the same as just setting up a dedicated PayPal account.
Are those advantages worth giving away 5% of donations?
I've not linked a PayPal account yet as I think this should be controlled centrally by v2 - i.e. Adam D.
Let me know your thoughts...

Re: The human windmill - favour required.
I think the way that I am going to go with this is to just PM people bank details of the v2 account if they want to donate.
Even if I set up a paypal account, it still is ultimately a trust issue that I am going to pass it on. So I might as well just use the account we have already set up.
Will post more details shortly.

Like I said, it was only really the promotional side I could see as an advantage.
