Henson back at Ospreys? how would you feel?
First topic message reminder :
I dont care what anyone says i'd be made up to see him back at the Ospreys.
Henson & Bishop with bowe on the wing would be strong and skillfull with 2 big tacklers or even henson with bowe as outside centre sounds pretty good too, but prefer Bowe on the wing.
Whats your thoughts, and let try to talk sense not just Henson bash aye lads oh and lasses

Dragons would be my bet.
Then again if he can get himself into the Wales WC squad other doors may open for him again .

I would like to see him at the Scarlets a great attacking side who are in need of a centre that can organise the defence.

Honestly? I would be embarrassed to be an Ospreys fan. Taking him back sends all the wrong messages to the boys coming through. Failed, on a personal level, everywhere he went and he walks back to O's looking for a 4th chance to mess it up? Really.
I am NOT WUMing. It' s how I'd feel.

You are right Gibbo. It's the same coaches walked out on. Only Lyn Jones has been able to coach him. Lyn was a bit of a case himself and could really empathise with Henson.

Glas,
I think everyone deserves a chance. Or even a few chances, depending of the circumstances. But, I dont think O's is the place for him now. Scarlets maybe. I wish him well, wherever he goes. I love rugby and he is a very talented rugby-player.

Your right Gibbo. It would be pouring oil on troubled waters to take him back. Whilst I would like to see him in Scarlet, I don't think that's likely whilst Garan Evans is team manager. He would be a coup signing for the Dragons. Sadly I think he will go to the Blues where so many talented players have floundered prior to Rush sorting out the dressing room. Even he seems to have been overtaken now by the malaise. The Blues and Ospreys are not happy camps.

I think the Garan Evans smack into the board thing was a long time ago, lets be honest he was a young kid then.
Both Evans and Henson have moved on since then
IMHO the Scarlets move would be the best move for him, Nigel Davies was a classy creative centre who would get the best out of Mr H, and a Jon Davies/ Henson centre partnership with North and Stoddart on the wings with Jones / Knoyle as the half back partnership would be very tasty indeed

Interestingly, the Os have a contractual first refusal on Henson's services should he come back to Wales.
And with Byrne, Hook & Phillips gone (or going), and the Os looking short in midfield - it WOULDNT surprise me to see him there next year.

Teams know that Hensons biggest liability is his attitude, its whether his skills as a player outweighs the BS that follows him around. He's thought he would be hot property returning to Rugby, two teams bought into the hype and realised he wasnt worth the agro.
As a result he's come back and touting his availability, if any region signed him they should do it on a rolling yearly contract, simply because he only has loyalty to himself and no-one else

Oh I can see you are approaching this with an onjective frame of mind! LOL

Not a statement supported by the known facts really is it? Did you read what the French coaches and team owners said about him? Did you see the reason for him leaving France?

He wanted out of Ospreys, a team who supported him throughout his sabbatical. When he realised that Sarries went just going to give him a starting place, he wanted out and headed to France.
In France he manages to pish of all his team mates, with the owner stating hes hard to handle, down to bad attitude. If Toulon really wanted him to stay, if he was really worth the effort, they would have handed him a new contract regardless of him wanting to get into the welsh team

(Toulon) President Boudjellal :
"This week I have tried to find out what happened because I have to make a decision which is the most objective possible, I think I know now what happened, so I will make decisions on Monday. We are not here to back him into a corner. He is a boy who makes mistakes sometimes. He's not the only one in rugby. There are others." He added: "You can tell that he's a great player. He's a cut above and makes me think of Sonny Bill Williams. They are boys who are cuts above."
(Toulon) team manager Tom Whitford:
"The problem is we haven't qualified for Europe this season, which means that our budget is going to be restricted, which means then we're slightly limited in our salary budget - that's one reason. The second reason is we hope from his point of view he's going to be picked for the World Cup to play for Wales, which means we're going to lose a player for a three-four month period. So we'd rather not take that risk. Obviously there was an incident - and he wasn't the only one at fault, let's be honest about this - it wasn't just his fault."
So you still maintain Toulon sacked him for being a troublemaker who's baggage outweighs his talent? I think you are making it up as you go along - but thats not uncommon with Henson detractors is it?

Re: Henson back at Ospreys? how would you feel?
Personally i think any talk of where Gavin will play next season depend on;
a) His performance for Wales in the comming internationals
b) His personally interaction with the regional players within the national set up
c) If he can remain injury free before the start of the next domestic season.
I think everyone is well aware that he can be a destructive force inside a squad, as well as on the feild. If he comes out with a 'Henson' comment to for arguements sake Priestland or Scott Williams about being out of the game for so long but still able to leap frog them in the pecking order (again just an example) then the Scarlets would be idiotic to sign him. THe same as if he clashes with anyone from any of the other regions (most likely Roberts when the big boys join up with the squad).
Personally i would not be suprised to see him at any of the regions and there are advantages to having him for all of them. The Blues would probably use him to give them some flair at fly half. The Dragons would get a huge publicity boost by signing him, as well as some experience to pass on to the younger backs. The Ospreys would be able to fill the gap that Hook will leave with him. And the Scarlets would be able to fit him into King's empty shirt.
However i have a sneaky feeling he will end up at Wasps

ML - Hes still not worth the risk then....
Im not a die hard detractor of henson, he's undoubtedly a talented rugby player, if he plays well saturday i'd be happpy as the next person. Problem is he thinks the world revolves around him, and it doesnt. theres incidents wherever he goes (off the field), I wouldnt be quick to sign him back to the ospreys

Alun Carter's "Seeing Red" still offers the best inside information on the Wales team and management set up and personalities of recent times.
It gives a clear indication of why Henson is unlikely ever to return to the Os while Scott Johnson remains.(And isn't terribly complimentary about SJ generally; he comes across as a bit of a drama queen, operating in ways that tended to split people into "insiders" and "outsiders")

I read that book recentely too rumple and its an eye opener alright. As an O's ST holder, the book doesn't give me much faith in SJ. He does come across as a bit of a troublemaker...

I haven't read that tome (but will go dig a copy out immediately!), but it sounds as if the rumours about SJ that have circulated both in the UK and Australia are supported.
As I said elsewhere, my Aussie mates down under regularly rib me about having SJ as Director of Rugby at the Os.

So that is why he was chatting to Paul Sackey so intently - isn't he rumoured to be there next year too?

Re: Henson back at Ospreys? how would you feel?
Would just like to say that i did not see the game today, Wales v BaBaas.
But i am guessing that most of Welsh did watch the game.
So, How Did Henson go on today, and would welcome him back into the Ospreys side after todays game?

You have asked this question before and it's been answered several times.

Re: Henson back at Ospreys? how would you feel?
To be fair to Henson he was as you'd expect from someone who's been out of international action so much for the last two years. He didn't pull off anything spectacular and didn't play diabolical rugby either. He needs more international games though if he wants to be in with a chance of going anywhere near the world cup squad.

The problem is though we don't have much time to experiment before the world cup.

Re: Henson back at Ospreys? how would you feel?
I'm sorry but Henson had a poor game and his performqance warranted 4/10 at best! He seemed to be clueless going forward and resorted do poking through terrible grubber kicks as he seemed to panic in posession. His defence was also poor and he missed 3 or 4 tackles, luckily for him none led directly to a try so haven't been commented on.

Re: Henson back at Ospreys? how would you feel?
I cant see the Os taking Henson back. Johnson has already come out and said that Henson is someone elses problem and I totally understand the Os being fed up of Gav. Also if he is included in the RWC squad why bother spending money on a player who has very limited game time and wont be available for a large part of the season Id much rather see the youngsters introduced slowly over the next season and then if we are lacking in any department we can consider players after the RWC that is if the French dont buy up all the talent first.
