Week 11 Results
- Bremen:
- Injuries: Julian Von Haacke, Aleksandar Stevanovic, Felix Kroos
------------------Wolf------------------------
----Selassie – Prodl – Badstuber – Alonso-------
Kishna-----------Vilhena ----------Montero----
------------Hunt--------Maher ---------------
----------------Petersen- --------------------
Overall instructions: I want to play a more controlled game today with Vilhena being the centre piece of that control.
Defensive Instructions: I want us to stay solid throughout the match by not allowing our opponents to play the ball in and around us by putting pressure on the ball when they are in possession. Look to retrieve the ball and watch the attacks from both sides and centrally. Montero and Kishna, I want you both to drop back and work solidly to protect the full backs as much as is required. Prodl and Badstuber, stand strong and watch the runners. They have been playing a 4-3-3 formation in recent weeks which means we need to be aware of the pace that they have in the wide areas and through the middle. Badstuber I want you to man mark whichever striker that they play.
Attacking Instructions: Due to our more controlled game today I want us to try and frustrate Palmero by keeping possession of the ball as much as we can and working the space that will be left by the wingers when they push forward. Lets make the ball do the work for us and look to get Vilhena onto the ball to make things happen and I want you to always have your head on a Swivel looking for options which the team should be providing for you. Petersen I want you to be the man who gets onto the end of the passes coming through from the midfield area.
Final Note: Palmero are no push overs and won’t be easy to beat, make the possession that we have count.
Substitutions:
Beister on for Montero – 60th Minute.
Di Santo on for Petersen – 80th Minute.
Obraniak on for Hunt 85th Minute.
Petersen, Maher
No tactics from Ol’Toothy
Bremen Good Point: Using Vilhena to try and control the game was good, really playing to Vilhena’s strengths. Good scouting of the opposition.
Bremen Bad Point: Think the midfield 3 would struggle together and some more presence is needed. The right hand side looks much weaker than the left and should be a clear target for your opposition
- Basel:
- ---------Sommer---------
-----Sauro---Lovren---Suchy
Johnson------------------------Blind
-----------Eleny-----Frei------------
---------------Stocker-------------
--------Campbell---Aduriz---------
Some thing dofferent today
Defence; Lovern will sit centeral and take up the main striker, he will commands and boss around the back 3 the other center halves will mop up whatever's left over.
WBs: both will bomb forward at will, attack is the aim today and they will at all times, crosses towards Aduriz or pass inside, when defending look to keep the outside and away from the cbs
Midfield, Eleny will sit back and mark the AM if they have one, Frei will bomb forward at all times, he will play highe nervy and Harry the opposition all the time , stocker is in a unfamiliar central role, he will look to run at the Cbs and take up space, leaving more room for the strikers, he will look to play killer ball and have pops at range, it's his job to get into a playmaking CM if the play one
ST: Aduriz will play target man, he will get in the box and try and find space,a swella s knock owns to Campbell Campbell will look to move around and make runs behind the defence, he will also dirty wide to offer a wide threat.
- Montpellier:
- Basel v MONTPELLIER
Injuries: Jeffrey Assoumin, Stefan de Vrij, Sebastien Kehl
Starting XI:
---------------Mitryushkin
Flanagan - Chambers - Campagnaro - Willems
----Ward-Prowse - Pirlo - Bentaleb
----------Bakkali - Origi - Remy
Subs: Jourdren, Tiene, Hilton, D.Suarez, Afellay, Green, Tinhan
Final game of the season, time to show me you deserve a place in this side for next season. Going at Basel today, they have some great players but Lovren aside their defence is pretty vulnerable. Using a lot of pace and power in a front three, Bakkali and Remy have the ability to switch with Origi and utilise their pace down the middle, where if Origi is man marked he can drag the CB out of position and leave a lot of space for Remy or Bakkali making runs. And with Pirlo supplying the passes we can cause them a lot of problems. Playing 4-3-3, a young back four but with Campagnaro able to provide leadership, experience and guidance, we shouldn't be overawed.
Defence: Mitryushkin to be big for one on ones and distribute to the deep dropping Pirlo. Chambers to use his pace and height to mark their striker, Campagnaro to use his positional sense to be first to second balls. In possession supply Pirlo. Flanagan and Willems to overlap the wingers going forward and get crosses into the right areas, rather than aim for individuals. Make sure you get back into position ASAP to avoid being caught out. Defensively force their wingers wide and block the crosses. Don't let them cut inside.
Midfield: Pirlo to be our quarterback, drop deep, get the ball and look to supply the front three. Bentaleb will be the protection, playing as a DM/CM who will give cover to Pirlo but is also capable of retaining possession and giving Pirlo a close option in possession if being closed down. Ward-Prowse will be our box to box man, drop alongside Pirlo and Bentaleb when we're defending, but in possession be the one to support the front three, making runs into the area from deep.
Attack: Bakkali and Remy playing as LF and RF, but both can swap with Origi and play centrally if required. Origi will be our stereotypical target man, use your height and strength to occupy the Basel defenders, drift wide to drag defenders with you, to allow Bakkali and Remy to make pacy runs down the middle into space for Pirlo to pick them out. All three of you more than capable of scoring and assisting, so get shots in where you can and look for your teammate in a better position. Switch positions on occasion to keep the Basel players guessing and drag them out of position.
Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Origi off, Afellay on. Remy to CF, Bakkali and Afellay deeper into wide midfield roles, switch to 4-5-1 and look to absorb pressure before hitting Basel on the counter attack.
If drawing: Origi and Ward-Prowse off, Afellay and D.Suarez on. Remy to CF, Afellay to LF with a different, more creative approach from wide, Suarez into midfield with more creativity and more attacking flair going forward, same system but push for the win.
If losing: Bentaleb and Ward-Prowse off, Afellay and D.Suarez on. Switch to a 4-1-3-2, Pirlo the DM/playmaker, Bakkali - Suarez - Afellay the AM's and Origi and Remy as two conventional strikers, fullbacks push on to wingbacks and push for goals.
Basel 2-3 Montpellier
Aduritz, Campbell; Origi, Remy 2
Two very contrasting formations, but two equally attacking approaches. Both teams really went at each other and goals were always going to come. In the end I felt that the players in the Montpellier team were better to fulfil the roles asked and to be able to cope with the onslaught better. Was tempted by the high scoring draw, but the better XI for Montpellier just swayed me.
Basel Good Point: 3 at the back is really tricky to pull off and you need to have the right players to play it. Felt your wing backs were perfect for it though and definitely one to keep persevering with. I could also see Stocker working well at AM.
Basel Bad Point: I think you need two better partners for Lovren, and better CMs if you continue to playing 3 at the back.
Montpellier Good Point: Quality throughout the XI and I particularly like the front 3, which would cause real trouble for most defences. A real good balance of pace and flair, and the more physical presence.
Montpellier Bad Point: Whilst decent enough, improvement alongside Pirlo will be needed soon if you aren’t to be left behind. Also looking at your bench, perhaps strength in depth lacking a bit
- Genk:
De Sanctis
Aurier Barzagli Caldirola Shaw
Diaz Mutch
Quaresma Depay Elia
Long
BENCH
Koteles
Ngconga
Lascelles
Aranguiz
Camus
Bebe
Kane
Note: If drawing/losing, bring on Aranguiz, Bebe and Kane for Elia, Diaz and Quaresma. Play an effective 4-2-4 with the full backs bombarding forward and Depay and Bebe inside forwards.
TACTICS
This week we must win in order to secure the title. We will attack them from the off with a bold selection. Our gameplan focusses on looking to stretch their defense by using two out and out wingers, in Quaresma and Elia to force their back four wide to create more space for our central players. Shaw and Aurier have license to get forward when possible, particularly if they play without wingers. Long should look to get high and run in behind the defense, look for the pockets of space and make them go deeper, to create room for Depay (who has a free role behind the striker this week) and Mutch, who has a box to box role.
Defensively, Sturridge and Sterling are the obvious threats, and Diaz must sit deep in front of the back four and ensure there is no space there which Sterling thrives in. Chop him down when he gets near the ball. Our midfield should all be full of energy and snappy to win back the ball, looking to get it back quickly. If they play two upfront, get zonal in a tight back four.
- Verona:
Heaton
Janmaat-Reid-Umtiti-Van Aanholt
Behrami
Hallfredsson---Delph
Sterling
Sturridge-Zarate
Gameplan:
We want to play on the counter in this game, with our pace going forward. Primarily we'll look to soak up pressure and hit our opponents going the other way with balls in behind the defense.
Offensive:
When we get it, break quickly and look for balls in behind the defense for the front 3 to run onto, we'll see if their keeper can play the Neuer sweeper role. Zarate and Sterling should alternate between the above and wing positions to confuse the defense and draw them out of position, and aim to link up often. One of the FBs can push forward to give width to attacks and Delph/Hallfredsson should look to break from deep.
Defensive:
We'll sit in and soak up pressure. Hallfredsson/Delph should help double up on Depay wherever he lines up and take him out the game while the other should play slightly more infield, able to influence centrally and wide if required. Behrami should roam in front of the defense, neutralising anything that comes into his area. FBs should constantly show the wingers down the line rather than offering a path infield, Heaton should be strong when coming to collect crosses.
Genk 1-2 Verona
Depay; Sturridge, Zarate
Genk started off on the front foot applying pressure to the Verona defence who struggled to get out of their own half and Shaw who had space down the left found Depay roaming off Umtiti stabbing it past the keeper . As the game restarted the Verona side found some composure and kept Genk at arms length, Genk still the instigators but Verona were able to stop them causing danger. The hardworking midfield of Verona were quick to break attacks and get the ball to Zarate or Sterling who ran at the heart off Genk and played in Sturridge who's superior pace got them an equaliser.
The second half started with Genk getting balls to the quick attack but they seemed out of ideas to break down the defence, too much speed and not enough Guile. Long had a long day as he was kept under wrap by Reid. As the game went on Genk started to take more risks leaving gaps at the back and the interchanging Zarate and Sterling worked again as they took the lead. Straight after Genk made changes but the replacements were not on the ball despite Aranguiz trying he was overworked in midfield.
I think Genk tried to change too mutch and should have played their natural game. I'd also say that Verona had the better side and sometimes it's the players that win the game rather than tactics not saying tactics were poor. GSC listened too my feedback last week and worked on weaknesses.
Genk Good Point: Very good FB probably best pairing in the league.
Genk Bad Point: I don't think the side is good as it's league position changes are needed.
Verona Good Point: Sterling and Sturridge are going to cause problems for anyone and the Henderson addition has improved them, personally my favourites for the title next season.
Verona Bad Point: Henderson has addressed any potential problem in midfield, just general upgrade next season.
- Bordeaux:
- -----------Carrasso
Arias ---Laporte -- Manolas -- Maxwell
-------Alonso --- Lucas
Bojan --------Jese --------El Ghazi
-----------Pelle
Subs: Olimpa/Henrique/Orban/Cheyrou/Belay/Drogba/Sanogo
Team Talk: Last game of the season so just going out with a bang, going to attack down the wings as that's Twente's weak area.
Defensive Tactics
- Defense to sit deeper to negate pace in behind
- Laporte to stick tightly to the main forward, Manolas will use his pace to clear up if the forward turns Aymeric
- Manolas to watch for Quintero to get forwards and being a goal threat
- Arias/Maxwell to force the winger down the line and cross it as we're a tall side and them not so much
- Alonso & Lucas to screen infront of the defense and get close to Quintero to stop him creating
Attacking Tactics
- Alonso & Lucas to play as a double pivot so both look to dictate play from deep with range of passing
- Bojan,Jese & El Ghazi to interchange throughout the game with each looking to get at their respective full back if no joy then switch
- Whoever is no.10 at the time look to drift between defense and midfield and look to create for the wingers getting in behind their full backs with pace
- When out wide look to whip balls into the box, If they press up high then Alonso/Lucas to knock in behind defense for wingers
- Pelle to back into the defenders and look to bully them, You're not going to out run them so get in the box and use aerial ability to score headers and look to poach in the 18 yard box
Subs: If losing - Drogba on for El Ghazi - go 4-4-2 and launch it up top
- Twente:
- ------------------------Stevens-----------------
Yedlin---------Zouma----Rojo--------Blackett
----------------------Rabiot---------------------
--------------Carvalho----Clasie---------------
Promes----------Quintero----------Balde Diao
Last day of the season so going with a false 9 set up to allow our youth to showcase their energy and trickery pulling their defence apart. Look to use the flanks with Yedlin especially linking up play with Promes whilst Clasie is protected by Carvalho and Rabiot to move the ball into threatening positions.
Defence
A back four with Rojo given the role of picking up the main striker as they enter threatening positions, be aware of their movement but ensure you don't get dragged out of position. Zouma to assist where required but to pick up threats from Their wingers/AM etc if they break into the danger zone. Fullbacks to shepherd their wingers on the outside, no rash challenges and going to ground, slow their attacks down and block crosses. Rabiot main defensive of midfield trio, look to stay back when our FBs go forward.
Attack
Clasie to take the role of playmaker, look for movement of FBs linking up play with wingers especially with the acceleration of Yedlin. Carvalho to play in the box to box role of the central core and split their defence with runs when opportunity arises. Wingers to use FBs coming forward to find space whilst Quintero charged with pockets of movement to take markers out of position.
Subs: 80m Gauld, Muric and James on for Promes, Quintero and Blackett, same formation but with fresh legs to continue the attack.
Jese, Bojan; Clasie
Two not disimilar set-ups and instruction. Both sides targetted the flanks, so that is where the game was won and lost. For me the Bordeauk full backs and wingers were better than the Twente ones, and the midfielders feeding the wide players were better.
Bordeaux Good Point: The side has a strong core from CB, CMs through to the CF, so will dominate a lot of games through that
Bordeaux Bad Point: Your keeper looks a weakness compared to the rest, whilst the left flank looks more in need of improvement than anywhere else.
Twente Good Point: As with Bordeaux, you have a decent spine to the side, with your strengths clearly through the middle.
Twente Bad Point: The wide areas and keeper need to be improved further. Although they are getting better, it still looks behind the other areas in your side. Also, your strong areas like CM still look a bit behind some of the other teams, if you want to be title challengers.

Injured Players
Christian Maggio
Pedro Leon
Simon Rolfes
Team Talk: Up against bottom side but we don't take nothing for granted, they're missing Greiner who is first team cm. I am expecting Olly to play on the counter so my fb need to get tight on them. I want to play a formation where we can control the game and get our wingers in behind their fb.
Defensive Tactics
Terry to pick up Finnbogason do not let him settle and Naldo to pick up any spare man or runner. FB be aware they may play counter attack lean into them to slow them down and force them wide. Tiago and Ledesma screen the back 4 Tiago to be more aggressive and press them Ledesma to jockey his man and block passes. Kalou and Castro you'll have to track back if their FB make runs. We'll drop slightly deeper as a team and make sure their is no gaps.
Attacking Tactics
One FB to push up at a time drive forward creating space for wingers to cut inside to link up with Berbatov and Di Natale. Ledesma look to dictate play look for wingers making early runs keep ball ticking, Tiago keep it simple sideways passes nothing to fancy be the steel to keep Can underbay. Kalou and Castro use pace to get inside, Kalou has scoring instincts so look to get in the positions. Berbatov play off Di Natale look to find Di Natale and at times make runs off him. Di Natale play within 18 yard keep it simple pass and move into goalscoring positions.

Tactics
Overall: Usually we like to be solid at the back but today I want us to be more attacking, Katsoiranis play the more advanced of the midfield two with Can sitting allowing the FB's to get forward. Look to get Finnbogason the ball in the area, so he can do what he does best. Attack with pace, one/two touch football, don't dither in possession
Defence: Stones/Kolsanic be advanced but in defence be solid and narrow. Keep them ahead of us, don't let them in behind, so sit a little deeper.
Attack: Will be based off the counter attack mainly, look to spring through Munir/Ninis. When we have possession look to get Valdivia on the ball to create. Three behind Finnbogason interchanges throughout[/size]
Olly
Di Natale 2; Finnbogasson, Ninis
I found this a really intriguing game and it was impossible to separate them, PAOK went counter attacking, Getafe saw it coming. But such was the difference in pace for the two sides, it was difficult for the Getafe defenders to completely deal with it. But similarly Getafe played a more patient passing style and using the flanks, and that little bit of extra guile and quality in their players meant they had success too. Like I said hard to split, so a high scoring draw.
Getafe Good Point: Plenty of clever footballers in there, so easy for them to play attractive passing football.
Getafe Bad Point: A serious lack of pace throughout the side could you leave you horribly exposed against a strong, quick side.
PAOK Good Point: Plenty of pace and flair in the final third, which will make it very difficult to defend against you
PAOK Good Point: The defence and midfield is lacking that little bit of extra quality that some of the other sides have got, and it's not a strong enough base for you to rely on, for your attacking players to win you the games.
