Utterly Petrified of a Smith Win This Weekend
The Gallagher Gym bs gets worse by the week on Sky and I find myself acting more and more irrationally towards it all. I can't back a single one of his fighters now. Any time a single one of the Smiths had stepped up they've been knocked out. Brutally in a couple of cases. Likewise Crolla. The way Matthews was treated by Sky was a disgrace, Crolla is a world champ elect despite not beating this guy.
Paul Smith is a good domestic fighter. No shame in that and he comes across well too but I want nothing other than a complete demolition job by Abraham this weekend. I don't think I can handle the love in should it go any other way.

not that i dislike Smith (although he can be a moany fecker on twitter) i don't think he deserves to hold any version of a world title, , fair play to the guy, he's managed to get a crack at a world title and i'm sure there's part of him thinks that at least he can always say he fought for a world title no matter what happens.
i know its been said many times about him not even being the best S.middle in the UK, for me i'm not even sure he would beat Callum

Hes not even in the top 3 which makes it even worse but i will be supporting him as i do all british fighters against a foreign opponent, i agree though the sky/Gallager lovein would be sickening. I really dont understand it especially after he told us his 'master plan' after the Quigg/Salinas fight

It does seem mental that he could be a world title holder on Saturday.

Good job Glenn Catley isn't fighting these days, he'd shoot himself in the face rather than risk being abused by you lot

World titles don't define the best fighters any more, they're merely bargaining chips for fighters looking to boost their pay packets.
Why would you begrudge Smith that?

If they were that easy to win....You'd have more than 4 champs..
But I get your point....

You do have more than four. Quigg and Rigo are both WBA "champs", so there are five belts floating about at 122. To Frampton's credit, he's on record as saying he isn't the champion until he beats Rigo.
Stuart Hall wasn't even top-ten ranked when he won the IBF belt at bantam (I think he made 9th afterwards). They no longer denote who the best fighters are. Promoters can essentially buy title shots for their fighters (over the table rather than under it -- as in years gone by) via the purse bid process.
The governing bodies (for want of a better word) are financed by sanctioning fees. It is in their interest for fighters earning big purses to hold their belts (which is why Billy Joe Saunders was bumped recently for Andrade).
Don't blame the fighters, though. They want the belts they saw their heroes carry. It isn't their fault they no longer mean anything. And while the alphabets would die if promoters, fighters and networks ignored them completely, at present, a title inflates a fighter's earning potential (and so it seems odd that anyone would begrudge a fighter that).

i don't think anyone would begrudge Paul Smith increasing his earning potentail considering the dangers involved in his day job,
what i think most people have a problem with is if its not bad enough having four (or five as the case may be) world champions devaluing the term 'world champion' we will now potentailly be looking at a guy who has done nothing to deserve being called a world champion and further devaluing these titles.

Re: Utterly Petrified of a Smith Win This Weekend
I hope he wins, always seemed like a nice bloke. Abraham will probably get rid of him in 6 or 7 rounds though.
Saying that I do hope Smith jumps on him early like Steiglitz did in the second fight. That's probably the only chance he's got as he's probably not good enough to employ the tactics that Froch did.
Can understand the Gallagher hate too, very annoying bloke. When he said that Quigg was a genuine world champion after his last fight when he's not the real champion in his organisation was a con.
The new Povetkin.

Furthermore they'll line up Dodson as a first defence followed by a shop worn Matthew Macklin type middleweight. The under card will be 'stacked' with Smiths, slappy Cardle, Crolla vs 'insert generic Mexican name'in an eliminator... Grim.

I hope Smith wins. Hes a Brit at the end of the day and if he wins the title then he deserves it. The more British champions, the better for boxing in this country.

Wait til Saturday lunchtime.
Good luck to Smith, can't control the hype machine. Hope he can find a way to an unlikely win.

Every boxer in Wales could take part in the brutal gang r*pe of STEFFY's mum and he'd still give them a pass. Never been that mad on Bradley Pryce if I'm honest. Seen him on the Enzo Calzaghe documentary and he didn't come across as particularly likable. And while he is not a boxer I cringe whenever that clown Vince Cleverly opens his mouthSoldier_Of_Fortune wrote:The must be some Welsh boxer somewhere you have distain for....

Nobody has cared about Abraham and Stieglitz for years now so doubt Smith is going to change that, when there is such a clear hierarchy in a division the alphabet belt holders don't get a look in.

Crazy how Degale is still scrapping about for a title fight and Smith has one, Have to say its not deserved, and he has only beaten a couple bums since his Groves KO.
Then again, if he wins then he wins, Cant see it though, you have to be a good boxer to out box Abraham and do not think Smith is good enough, and he is also not as tough. I predict a late stoppage.

Smith is going to win. He's going to win because I really don't want him to. Form, talent, experience goes out of the window.
