Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
Jermain Taylor, nine years after he ruled the middleweight division, reclaimed a portion of the middleweight title by beating Sam Solimon by UD.
Solimon was winning the fight until Taylor dropped him in the 7th round. Solimon's knee buckled and the fight was pretty much done after that.
Taylor dropped Solimon in the 8th, 9th and 10th rounds as well.
Solimon is one tough SoB though and still managed to see the final bell.
Jermain Taylor thanked Al Haymon...naturally.
Anyway Taylor could fight Hassan N'Dam(his mandatory) or Peter Quillin(another Haymon guy) next.

... that's probably the exact opposite of how you might imagine the fight would pan out. 'Jermain Taylor in come from behind late rally'... words you thought you'd never read

Re: Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
Says an awful lot for the strength in depth of the Middleweight division that these 2 were fighting for a piece of the world title.
Take GGG out of it and surely has to be one of the weakest divisions in boxing at the minute.

No it didn't. Solimons knee injury did. None of the knockdowns were genuine it was just the injury.

Yeah i had Solimon comfortably winning the fight until the injury took place incidentally did anyone else see the undercard fight before when the guy recieved a low blow and rolled around for 5 mins he sold the injury worse then a WWE wrestler

To be fair the anchor for the broadcast used to be a WWE employee. And the ring announcer could've easily sold a WWE matchwheelchair1991 wrote:Yeah i had Solimon comfortably winning the fight until the injury took place incidentally did anyone else see the undercard fight before when the guy recieved a low blow and rolled around for 5 mins he sold the injury worse then a WWE wrestler

Re: Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
Think the fact Darren Barker was running around with the same belt shows how much the IBF really means in the middleweight division. This division is ruled by talent not by belts. Taylor can flaunt this belt as much as he wants but considering this fight was held on a Wednesday with very little publicity or interest shows it's worthlessness.
Would be surprised if these two got paid anywhere near 6 figures for this. plus with Taylor winning ONLY because Solimans knee exploded also points out (just like Barker) he won't be in possession of the belt for very long.

If I was Murray I'd be battering my promoters door down to get me a shot at Taylor. Would get him a belt and add a few £'s onto his payday once he finally gets flattened by GGG.

If jt can make middle at 36 then he should have remained there and cemented his place as one of the best of this era (Great fighter who's punch resistance goes down when tired, especially against smw's)

If he'd stayed at Middleweight then he would have run into Abraham earlier with the same result and then would have had to have faced either Martinez, Chavez or Golovkin all of whom beat him. The moment he lost twice to Pavlik his chances of becoming any sort of great were done and dusted.

Did he punch him in the knee??
If not, then it wasn't his power that saved him.

Maybe he's got an incredible jab...maybe Soliman was terrified that Taylor would shoot him and his legs gave way out of sheer terrorTopHat24/7 wrote:Gerry SA wrote:Knee injury happened in the first KD. Re: Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
That was one awful spectacle. All three of the knockdowns seemed to happen because Soliman was unbalanced, and I don't think I saw more than three clean punches all night. Taylor is utterly shot, but fair play, he won an ugly fight. Quillin to gobble up that belt in the new year. America needs to get serious about boxing. That was on ESPN and anybody who was on the fence about boxing will turn away for a time.

Sam Soliman vs Darren Barker for the Paralympic MW title?

Re: Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
JT is a great fighter. One of the best in this era, even though he wasted his talent. Beating Hopkins went to his head. He lost something after that achievement. Losing to Pavlik was no great shame at that time. He should have remained at middle and rebuilt his career. Going almost immediately into the super six after defeat, at a higher weight, ruined him. I have no doubt had he maintained his weight, and re-grouped, then his record would look different and his career and talent would be more highly regarded.
He put himself on a pedestal and was knocked off by Pavlik; had he not tried to remount it so soon, I believe he would have beaten AA further down the line had they both remained at middle.

Re: Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
To be honest Cotto and GGG having the other belts makes this title look like a piece of turd..
It's a bit like Juan Coggi being a jr welterweight champion when JCC held the WBC and Taylor held the IBF...

Re: Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
Solimans knee gave way in the 7th and after that he was practically fighting on one leg.
Tayor did have a good 6th round, before the 7th round knockdown. Soliman did well to make it to the final bell.
N'Dam or Quillin will destroy Taylor.

Quillin doesn't deserve to fight him after his disgraceful bottling of the Korobov defence.

Call it what you will, he bailed. Career high pay day so it certainly wasn't the cash. It was pathetic.

Re: Jermain Taylor - Sam Soliman spoilers
BS.
If he wasn't a Yank you'd be all over him for it.
A career high pay day against a guy you think isn't good enough to deserve facing you is a win-win, not something you walk away from without pathetic reason.

If Quigg was a Yank you'd be calling him p4p Top 10 - especially if he were heavier and a Floyd fight were muted!!

You said he was a top win for Bradley, when you were spuriously trying to justifying his ridiculously lofty p4p ranking.
But thanks for drawing everyone's attention to that excellent example.

Never said he was a top win for Bradley..........Just like I never said a lot of things you attribute to me...
But never mind hey..........."Poor Man's Chuvalo" ...Sounds like I really rated him...
No offence but enough is enough............If I want an extended argument I'll pick someone who knows something about the sport....

You using Provo to support Bradley's p4p ranking, in your own fawning article. If you really thought he was just 'a poor mans Chuvalo' you wouldn't be using him to suggest greatness or place him alongside Khan, Maidana & Matisse.

Provo like Berbick a future world champ for Holmes counts on his record..
Where have I said he's a top fighter....Do I think Petersen is a top fighter..
I said the win counts ........Because like Maussa for Hatton he's a world champion....
Leave it out.........
