Looking foward to the fight wonder which tv station will get to show it as murray has fought on boxnation and C5 in the recent past, also sky have picked up the last few GGG fights

Be interesting to see if Murray actually can give GGG a decent fight. Or will he fold in a few rounds like everyone else? On paper it's a good test for both. However I can see another flattening. GGG in 5.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
Murray's biggest problem is he's feather fisted. If he had some power to go along with his acumen and athleticism, he'd be a very very lively underdog. As it is, he'll probably dance a bit, land a few hits, and get walked down.

Don't think C5 will get it (shame as the coverage was much improved with McGuigan on board).

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
On the one hand Murray looks tough, solid and well organised, on the other if he is the 2nd best middle on the planet... If... You have to question if there's ever been a worse middle division. Takes ggg out, you have a blown up welter as champion and a crock of doo dah in support.
Anyway FairPlay to the mayweather of the middles for taking the ggg fight (although his options are limited), and good luck to him. I suspect he'll need it.

Its great to see them keeping Golovkin so active. They have 4 fights targeted for 2015. And apparently he has been installed as the WBC mandatory.

He holds their interim world WBC middleweight title. I think they make their own rules as they go along. If you pay them enough, they will give you some sort of title and a ranking.
Ive been reading that the Alvarez fight might be more likely to happen at 154lbs though, or at a catchweight and that Cotto may vacate the middleweight title. Alvarez/Cotto is big enough not to need any belts.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
Gotta like this fight don't you, and its a proper test for GGG
Murray doesn't do anything spectacular but he's a big strong middleweight who has a tight defence, high work rate, good stamina good movement and pretty sure he hasn't been down and hurt that much. Apart from maybe quillin he could just he the second best middleweight as I'd pick him to beat Cotto
Think if he squats murray he really needs to look st the other divisions as if Murray can't even be competitive than none of the current middle weights will be

Cotto vs Alvarez will be fought at a catchweight for the linear middleweight championship.catchweight wrote:He holds their interim world WBC middleweight title. I think they make their own rules as they go along. If you pay them enough, they will give you some sort of title and a ranking.

I'd have korobov at number 2 at middle followed by Murray.
I haven't seen Quillin fight.

Korobov has a very good chance of beating ggg, providing he doesn't get stopped.

Korobov hasn't looked great in the pros fingers, there's something missing and can't say id rate him any near second best.

That fight may be, but beyond that I dont think either boxer will be keen on holding it. Especially if it carries an obligation to face Golovkin. There are not many big fights in the middleweight division for either if unless they fancy tangling with Golovkin. Cotto looks more likely to move down. There is even talk of Bradley getting in the mix.

I think he's the standout in the division Hammer. Hopefully he proves me right, starting with Andy Lee.

As far as I'm aware he's only had one little slip up (the punch he took in the 1st against Edwards), if you can call it a slip up. Certainly he's the dark horse of the division.

What fights in the pro ranks showcase such high praise? For me he's laboured to victory in most of his fights especially on the undercard to big fights and the fact he's only just stepped up in class and to 12 rounds is telling.

What do you mean by laboured to victory, won on points? He's a brilliant fighter and shows it in every fight.
Anyone have a link for korobov vs uzcategui, I haven't seen it?

Laboured to victory as in he's not looked that good and certainly doesn't showcase himself as a brilliant fighter, no offence but I sometimes think you get blinded by a fighters amateur pedigree.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
No offense taken, I think we just like different things.
The only ex amateurs I highly rate are Rigo, Lomenchenko, Beterbiyev, Korobov, Golovkin, Kovalev and Usyk (though i'm not too certain how Usyk will do, despite his talent).
Given that lots of good pro's were top amateurs, holding national honours at the very least, I can safely say I'm not overly bias toward good amateurs.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
...I rate ggg and kovalev lower than the others because they were blessed with power and a decent chin at birth. I don't give as much credit to those fighters who use those attributes as an equalizer, they didn't work for them - they were born with them. However, I do credit them for providing exciting fan friendly fights.

Down the line Beterbiev vs Kovalev is a mouth watering prospect. Two big punches.
I pick Beterbiev to win, in a fight of the decade contender.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
I don't rate Murray at all personally, tidy boxer, good at all the basics but nothing spectacular. Don't see him offering GGG anything really.
I don't think he's in the same league as Cotto either. Other than turning up cruiserweight size on fight night I don't see what trouble he gives him.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
I think it will take an elite boxer to derail GGG, it can be done as he's got his flaws but Murray isn't the one to do it. History has shown that making it to the top with limited power requires at least one exceptional attribute to make up for it. As decent as Murray is he does nothing well enough to beat GGG, he'll catch up with Murray at some stage and probably stop him.

Think Murray will at least get GGG into the later rounds, expect him to be stopped around Rd8.

Murray stands a good chance. He's tall and strong (bulked up in recent years) and has shown he can really mix it with the elite.
We ARE talking about Andy Murray, aren't we?

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
My wife will have a more informed opinion of this than me however I can say with a degree of certainty that this weekend Pixie Lott possessed the sex appeal of a gaudy coat rack.
Anyway, MARTIN Murray will definitely give a decent account of himself and is quite possibly the "livest" opponent Golovkin's had for a while. Fair to say Rubio and Macklin are, to be polite, a bit shopworn these days.

Yeh, would put MM ahead of both Rubio and Macklin.
MM won (IMO) versus a better Martinez in Argentina, Martinez being a hard hitting athletic (albeit lost a step) boxer.

You do realize that MM (Martin Murray) is the same as MM (Matthew Macklin) and causes some confusion

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
I remember Murray in the studio when Macklin got taken out by GGG. He made plenty of noises then about not fancying it and I really don't think noises like that go away. He'll try and kid himself but he knows he's in for a beating.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
Given his criminal past, Murray knows his options are limited. The chances are that Golovkin is going to be the standout MW for some time and, if he's based in the USA, pretty out of Murray's reach once he hits the big time.
Best to take the chance now when arguably, Golovkin isn't the finished article (although he's as near as damn it)

Pity there's not a current version of MW Hoppo, that's who GGG needs to be fighting to really learn.

Re: Golovkin to face Murray next
Guy has been able to fight at his own pace and stay in the comfort zone...
Love to see someone take him out of it............Love to have seen him take on Marv who'd make him work and would try to back him up......I think he'd be made for Marv....I mean he doesn't move his head..and Marv would keep coming....If he can take Tommy's right he can take this guy's shot.
Whilst GGG looks good..............Herol Graham would have played with the crap this guy has beat..
Murray is a good fight for him............He'll come to win and he's better than Macklin and Geale ......He just doesn't bang hard enough...
Only when this guy is taken out of his comfort zone will we be able to see how good he is...... unfortunately middle is so crap there isn't anybody..
Shame Froch can't take him on....Though Froch does deserve an easy night so I don't blame him.

He's a big middleweight........I wouldn't advise it.
He's not like Alvarez who made 152 easily and looked the sharpest he's ever looked coming down a bit..

Not at all, made weight with pounds to spare, 154 would be no issue.
Second sentence made me smile though
