Getafe 2-1 Basel
Mirallas, Son;
Meyer
Player for player the two sides were reasonably well matched, but Getafe won this tactically. Basel played a possession game and Getafe were happy to let them do this and used the pace and flair of Mirallas and Son to really good effect.
Improvement wise, Getafe need to improve their defence, especially at full back, which isn’t the same standard as the rest of the side. Basel, I’m still not sure Adebayor is the answer to any question, too unreliable. I would look to improve on Elneny and Poconogli
Granada 0-1 Genk
Tadic
Very close to call, but in the end I felt that Treb’s second guessed the Granada strategy and nullified the wingers effectively and there wasn’t a plan B. Treb’s was matched up to in midfield and I feel he would have been better having De Rossi making his driving runs and Mavuba sitting deeper. Ibra was also well dealth with, but ultimately I felt that left Tadic and Chadli a bit more freedom, they were invited to come narrow like they wanted to and that was enough to sneak the win.
Improvements wise, Genk’s weakness is definitely at the back with all 5 not of the same quality as the 6 in front of them. Granada, I’m not keen on Alderweireld or Caceres, they are not as good as the rest, and also a plan B would probably have won the game as player for player, on paper, you were better.
Montpellier 2-1 Bremen
Kagawa, Sigurdsson;
Kiessling
I was really impressed by Miky’s efforts here and really wanted to give him something as it was tactically a vast improvement. But Marky also got it tactically spot too and his better quality players meant he deserved to win.
Improvements: Montpellier could do with a more dominating centre back as Kiessling had a bit of joy against Dominguez and Mirin. Montpellier, you can see the improvements happening, so just keep going. I would look at improving on your wingers, a better DM alongside Gundogan and a new RB
Palermo 1-1 Bordeaux
Musa;
Sakho
What a tough one to call so I’ve gone for sitting on the fence. Two quality sides and two impressive sets of tactics, it would have been easy to justify a result either way, but in the end I couldn’t separate them.
Improvements – Both teams are strong throughout, so this is no weak areas, but the area that appears weakest. Palermo, a new LB and someone to play instead of Kouyate, allowing Kouyate more time to strut up and down the sidelines being weng. Bordeaux – maybe now at FB
Twente 3-4 Verona
Berahino, Alcacer x2;
Sterling x2, Zarate, Tello
I like it when a manager really goes for it and in this match, it was a real treat, with both managers going for it, with two strong sides. What won it in the end was that Twente lacked proper width. The Twente “wingers” were narrow and with the two DMs for Verona helping the CBs, they coped with this. And this gave a bit more freedom to Sterling and Tello (and Zarate when rotating), plus to Darmian to an extent, they were able to pick out Toni. Although this Twente defence is the strongest in the league, it was just too much
Improvements – Twente – as with the last match, it’s not picking poor players but those who look the weakest. For me Durm and Balde don’t look as good as the rest, whilst I worry about Alcacer and Berahino whether they will sustain current form or are just this years flavours. Verona – Bertrand Diame and Toni don’t feel as strong as the rest. I know two of these is forced through injuries so perhaps working on your squad players next

We've gone with 3 in midfield to match the Basel midfield, they're missing Delph who offers them workrate and energy. I'm sure Meyer will play, I want us to bully him of the ball not allowing him to get into the game. Wingers to play slightly narrow with FB giving us width. We're playing a counter attack game allowing them position in their own half and to pressure them when they come into ours and get ball forward as quickly as possible.
DEFENSIVE TACTICS
Terry to pick up main striker (Adebayor) Ayhan to sweep up or pick up any spare man or runners. Their wingers like to come inside so let's show them the outside forcing to cross from deep. I only want one FB to push forward at a time. Ledesma to screen the back four look to intercept passes and position yourself to stop them getting forward. De Jong look to get the tackles in strong but fair the destroyer in our side breaking up their attacks. Tiago play a high pressure game pressing them backwards or into mistakes. Less emphasis on wingers to defend but that don't mean they stay forward be sensible and wary of their FB.
ATTACKING TACTICS
When our FB go forward, stay on the touchline making runs to free up our wingers and look to get the ball into the box. Ledesma get the ball moving dictate our tempo hit it long to wingers to start a counter. De Jong to keep it simple with your passing sideways and look to keep possession. Tiago to play as the most advanced midfielder, making deep runs into the box making runs off Di Natale. Son and Mirallas swamp their defence by playing more narrow, be direct run at them with speed getting into box to shoot or set. Di Natale stay on Mexes use your predator instincts that helped you score 199 goals in Seria A, do your work in the box.
70 MIN IF LOSING

General:Basel want to play to play a high pace, quick passing and moving based game with our energetic wide players and support from midfield. We will look to press high up the pitch and put pressure on the opposition to cause mistakes and to capitalise. Otherwise keep the possession and look for the opponents to open up, they can't score without the ball! This will hopefully allow us to stretch the opposition defensive line and create the space for a few attacks.Attacking:Blind to sit in front of the centre backs to provide cover and allow the full backs to push on.Guarin to play a support role in attack and arrive late into the box.Campbell and Meyer to both play off Adebayor, looking to thread balls into Adebayor or take on the full backs to get a shot on goal, looking to cut inside.Full backs to provide width and energy to the attack, with Blind capable of forming a back three with the centre backs if needed.Defensive:High press up the pitch, with pressure leading from the forward three.Mexes to lead defence and man mark the lone striker. Yanga Mbiwa to sweep up anything that comes from the striker or support.Full backs to track back and force any attackers wide, and prevent the cross.Blind to sit in front of defence and break up any attacking play, or hound any attacking mid trying to float into space.Apologies for the lateness!

TACTICS
Generally we want to play patient football today, keeping hold of the ball, but always looking to get forward. We should look to overload them in midfield, we have the legs to overpower them and finally we can play our first choice CM trio.
De Rossi should hold and orchestrate from deep, Mavuba should go in with the physical side and Herrera is the most attack minded, looking to create and get into the box. One of the three should get on Xavi, not allowing him any time on the ball. Tadic and Chadli should both look to cause problems, cutting in and drifting wide, being unpredictable. Ibrahimovic should look to constantly get on the weaker centre back, as the chances are they will try to man-mark him.
Their wingers are the most dangerous aspect of their team and therefore our full backs should limit their attacking intentions, rarely venturing too far beyond the halfway line and looking to match the wingers for pace (Hence Corchia starting over Evra). Luisao should man-mark the main striker, with Dier sweeping in behind.
SUBSTITUTIONS
If winning - Diaz and Elia for Chadli and a CM. Straight swaps, fresh legs.
If drawing - Kane for a CM. Move to a 4-4-2.
If losing - Kane and Lampard for Chadli and Mavuba, move to a 4-4-2 diamond, full backs bomb forward.

Overview: I think this is the first week I've had a full first choice XI so it's time to show everyone what we've got. The spine of Genk's team is strong so I've decided to pack my midfield in an attempt to negate their striker and strong midfield. My main objective will be to prod down the sides and really look to expose the FBs (Evra) when he goes forward.
Defence: I'm going to be a scumbag and combine what soddy and Hero have said about Ibrahimovic in recent weeks. The DMs should look to keep the space in between their position and the CBs when Genk have the ball to close Ibra down. Vlaar will be the man marking him, just watch he doesn't take your eye out with that nose. Toby will look to provide Vlaar with any necessary back-up and win loose balls. The DMs should provide any cover from marauding midfielders or wingers cutting inside (I expect my FBs to block the touchline so their wingers have no choice but to come inside).
Offense: With ample defensive cover this week I have no problems with my FBs being more adventurous, looking to get forward and support the wingers in taking on the FBs. Whichever side we're attacking down, I expect the opposite winger to get into the centre, providing another striking option. Xavi's going to sit in the middle of the park, working alongside those directly behind him or on the wings to get balls forward. Berardi's going to sit in gap between DM and CB and be alert from either balls from the wings or killer balls through the CBs by Xavi.

I was really impressed by Miky’s efforts here and really wanted to give him something as it was tactically a vast improvement. But Marky also got it tactically spot too and his better quality players meant he deserved to win.

- MONTPELLIER v Bremen
Injuries: Mikel San Jose, Geoffrey Jourdren, Modou Barrow
Starting XI: Sebastien Frey, DeAndre Yedlin, Nicholas Isimat-Mirin, Alvaro Dominguez, Jetro Willems, Jordy Clasie, Andrea Pirlo, Andros Townsend, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Shinji Kagawa, Samuel Eto'o
--------------------Frey
Yedlin - Isimat-Mirin - Dominguez - Willems
---------------Clasie - Pirlo
-----Townsend - Kagawa - Sigurdsson
-------------------Eto'o
Subs: Julian Speroni, Jon Flanagan, Hugo Campagnaro, Seydou Keita, Lewis Holtby, Zakaria Bakkali, Divock Origi
Tough game today against the very underrated Bremen, playing 4-2-3-1 with two deep lying playmakers, roaming AM's and a natural poacher of a striker. Ball retention is key but I want us to be more direct today, give Kagawa/Sigurdsson/Townsend the opportunity, the time and space to cause problems and utilise the space between their defence and midfield.
Defence: Frey to stay big for one on ones and distribute to Pirlo/Clasie. Isimat-Mirin to track their striker, beat him to any passes towards him and force him to drop deeper to frustrate him, Dominguez to be the first to any second balls. If they play a second striker, Dominguez to mark him and Clasie/Pirlo to track any AM. In possession supply Clasie/Pirlo. Yedlin and Willems to overlap the wingers going forward and get crosses into Eto'o. Make sure you get back into position ASAP to avoid being caught out. Defensively force their wingers wide and block the crosses. Don't let them cut inside.
Midfield: Clasie/Pirlo sit infront of the back four, get the ball and look to supply the front four. Sigurdsson and Townsend will play wide so they are able to switch from playing alongside Kagawa when we're attacking but drop and form a midfield four with Pirlo and Clasie when defending. Utilise Yedlin and Willems overlapping and use them to play them down the wing or use the space to cut inside. Kagawa to play as our AM, drift left and right and deeper to drag their DM out of position and look to supply Eto'o with plenty of opportunities. Townsend and Sigurdsson playing as inverted wingers, both pick up the ball wide and cut inside to leave space for the overlapping fullback, shoot or create when in advanced positions.
Attack: Eto'o to mark the deepest Bremen defender, use your pace and positioning to worry their defenders, drift wide to drag defenders with you, to allow Sigurdsson/Townsend/Kagawa to make runs down the middle into space for Pirlo/Clasie to pick them out. You're more than capable of scoring and assisting, so get shots in where you can and look for your teammates in better positions. Switch positions on occasion to keep the Bremen players guessing and drag them out of position.
Subs 70 mins:
If winning: Kagawa and Eto'o off, Keita and Origi on. Switch to 4-5-1 with Keita playing at CM alongside Clasie and Pirlo, and forming a midfield three, Townsend/Sigurdsson to wide midfield. Absorb pressure then look for Origi on the counter.
---------------------Frey
Yedlin - Isimat-Mirin - Dominguez - Willems
Townsend - Clasie - Pirlo - Keita - Sigurdsson
---------------------Origi
If drawing: Eto'o off, Origi on. Fresh legs, more direct powerful centre forward, push on for the winner.
If losing: Willems and Clasie off, Holtby and Eto'o on. Change to 3-1-4-2; Push for goals.
--------------------Frey

- Injuries: Lukas Schmitz, Santiago García, Jefferson Montero
-----------------Wolf---------------------
Selassie – Prodl – Martinez – Cole
----------------Kroos---------------------
---------Maher-----Gundogan---------
Buffel-------Keissling----------Kishna-
Defensive tactics:
I am aware that Montpellier are a strong side and they are most likely going to attack us with Eto’o leading the line.
I want Martinez to mark Eto’o throughout the game, don’t let him have time on the ball and look to pressure him in every situation.
I want the full backs to sit back in this match just holding back behind the central midfield 3 as a wider support pair but I don’t want you to wonder beyond there because we can be caught out by the attack of Montpellier.
I want the back 4 to work as a team with Kroos just in the holding role in front of them making a back 5 to add extra defensive support.
Kroos I want you to always look to make yourself available for the ball and for other players.
Attacking tactics:
As I mentioned, Montpellier are a strong side and will be attacking but I don’t want us to get pushed back, I want us to be patient yet efficient with the ball when we have it.
I want us to target their right side today so I am putting Kishna out on the left to be able to cut inside looking for the shot or take it out wide and cross it in for Keissling.
Gundogan you will need to work hard today as you are the key man in this team and I want you to get the ball out to the wide areas mainly Kishna on the left to make things happen.
Kiessling I want you to always be around in the oppositions box looking to get on the end of everything, I especially want you to look out for crosses coming in from the wide areas.
Subs:
Vilhena on for Kroos - 80th Minute.
Di Santo on for Kiessling - 85th Minute.
Makiadi on for Maher - 90th minute.

- Palermo:
- UjkaniColeman – Musacchio – Coloccini – PasqualKouyate – Pardo – SchneiderlinPerisic ------------------------------------ MusaEmenike
Overall
Based on our success last week we’re going with a similar look today. Our main threat comes from their midfield creativity and we’re putting energy in the middle to combat it.
Defence
We're keeping a solid back four when being attacked today, with the midfield three in front covering back for the full backs where they're committed upfield, and shielding the defence in the middle.
The big threat from Bordeaux will be via the creativity and passing of Xabi and Quintero, and we’re going to use the energy of Kouyate and Schneiderlin to get in their faces and make life difficult. Disrupt their tempo.
Attack
One of the two wide CMs may attack at once to add an extra body in attacking areas centrally.
The main thrust will be down the wings today and when we win it back we want to be faster to get upfield than our oppo. That starts with the midfield three, especially Pardo, distributing the ball quickly and accurately to exploit our pacey wingers and full backs.
Crosses should be knocked in where possible and Emenike will fight for the ball in the box, while the winger on the other side will attack the far post for scraps.
When our full backs are forward they should provide an overlap to both allow a crossing option and allow our wingers to cut inside and outnumber their defence. Direct running/shooting will come from that.
- Bordeaux:

--------Alonso --- Lucas
Quintero ---Lacazette ------ Narsingh
--------------Sakho
Sub: Olimpa,Orban,Arbeloa,Jojic,Ozyakup,El Ghazi,Drogba
Team Talk: Up against Soddy side of Pace that Cherries would love, Shall look to sit deeper to negate the pace in behind and look for Narsingh to use his pace to create when Coleman goes up the pitch as he inevitably will. He has a quality centre of midfield so shall look to go down the wing for the most part.
Defensive Tactics
- Laporte to get tight to Emenike and look to stop him getting the ball into his feet, Manolas to cover if he rolls Aymeric. Both CB's the sit fairly deep but not far that they are able to aerially bombard us.
- Jung to force Musa down the line on his weaker foot and look to block crosses,Tremoulinas to do the same with Perisic and cut to get tackles in if try to cut inside.
- Lucas to help Tremoulinas with Perisic if cuts inside and when Coleman gets forwards, Otherwise look to get onto Pardo as he comes forwards and looks to create for them
- Alonso to help Jung if Musa cuts inside, Alonso to look to sit infront of the defense and stop the supply into Emenike.
Attacking Tactics
- Alonso to drop in between Manolas & Laporte to play out of the ball with passes out to wingers or in to Lacazette, Look to keep play ticking over and occasionally go long to Sakho.
- Lucas to get further forwards to give Schneiderlin someone to track and look to link up with the front 4 and make late runs to edge of the box
- Quintero look to cut in from the right wing and look to drift in behind Schneiderin & Kouyate and create in the pockets for the forwards
- Narsingh to use the space that Coleman will leave behind and look to roll at Coloccini & Musachio and get balls in the box for Sakho
- Lacazette to sit in the gap between the defense & midfield and look to run off Sakho and use your pace to get in behind the CB, When doesn't have ball to get about Schneiderlin/Pardo and stop then dictating
- Sakho look to use movement to drift in between the 2 CB's and look to make yourself space in the box and get a run on them when the ball comes into the box in the air.
Subs: Sakho off for Ozyakup after 75 mins with Quintero into AM & Narsingh over to RW, Jojic for Lucas to get energy into midfield
Twente 3-4 Verona
Berahino, Alcacer x2;
- Twente:
------------------------Rafael-----------------
Chambers------Dante----Subotic-------Durm
--------Calhanoglu---Carvalho---Suarez-----
---------Berahino---Paco---Balde Diao--------
Team talk
With the crucial injuries to GSC's team and his speech stating Sodhat had a better team than him then he's there for the taking and as a result we're looking to take the game to them this week with an attacking 4-3-3 set up . We're looking to hit him hard and fast from the off to sap their morale immediately and put them on the backfoot from which they hopefully won't recover.
Defence
A back four with Dante given the role of picking up the main striker as they enter threatening positions, be aware of their movement but ensure you don't get dragged out of position. Subotic to assist where required but to pick up threats from their wingers/AM etc if they break into the danger zone. Fullbacks to shepherd their wingers on the outside, no rash challenges and going to ground, slow their attacks down and block crosses. Carvalho main defensive of midfield trio, look to stay back when our FBs go forward.
Attack
Suarez playing deeper than normal given the playmaker role, intelligent neat passes, looking for movement in front of you of the three youngsters. Calhanoglu to link up play as the highest positioned midfielder, stretch their defence out to you and if heavily marked as expected then look to invite tackles from which you can unleash hell from your free kicks.
A triplet upfront of wonderkids, Alcacer in the main central role predominately with Diao and Berahino playing slightly wider but with the remit for all three to alternate positions and cause disruption to their markers. Speed, intelligent movement and closing down is key today, get in for every loose ball, be ready to pounce for rebounds and chase their defenders, force them to play the ball early.
Subs
McCormack for Paco at 70m, bring on a different type of striker with 20m left, want a typical Championship striker performance, get stuck in and ruffle some feathers.
- Verona:
- HowardDarmian-Reid-Mascherano-BertrandSterling-Behrami-Diame-TelloToni-Zarate
Tactics:
We're going to take the approach I favor in these big games, of who dares, wins, and really get after our opponents from the first whistle today, put them under pressure and force them into some mistakes. Injuries shouldn't be an excuse, everyone has to do their part in a season. Set the tone early, high tempo, be direct.
Attacking:
Toni to act as a target to hit from the front, be direct and get the ball into him where he can lay it off to a supporting player in dangerous space. Zarate, Sterling and Tello should rotate throughout the game, whoever is central needs to get close to Toni when the ball comes into him, the other 2 should look to pull wider and keep the width and spread out opponents out. Diame should look to provide some powerhouse runs from midfield getting into the area. Both FBs should push up, especially if no wingers play, both are good going forward and have the legs to get up and down all game.
Defending:
The trio of Zarate, Sterling and Tello should aim to put them under pressure from the front, harry them, make them make quick decisions under pressure. Diame to do a similar job in midfield, while Behrami roams in front of the back 4, covering all angles. Bertrand and Darmian, if wingers play, push them inside into a congested area. Reid should get physical with the main striker, while Masch covers the back 4 (unless a 2nd striker plays then be aware of him also).

Yours was the side I was most impressed by tbh Nando. I hadn't really noticed before, but you have built a good side and it is very well balanced. A lot of sides are strong at the back or strong going forward, but yours looks really nicely balanced.

Re: Week 8 Results
Having gone through all the tactics for results, I would put you, Viva and Marky all on a par.
That is from a 1 week sample though.
The quality of tactics across the whole league is incredible, the strongest of any league I have been involved in. The difference between the best and worst is small.

I think I was just in too much of a hurry to get something in and didn't put my best into it like I do most weeks (provided I'm not playing injured players or anything ). I can't believe you're not keen on Alderweireld, he's part of a defence which has conceded the fewest PL goals this season

Marky writes great tactics but does need to put it across in easier to digest chunks, it's a ja606 set of tactics (well half the size of those tbh), jeez a player would switch off listening to what those guys write.

It'll be counter productive to write tactics that are too long. The voter will lose interest and not really take in what you are trying to do.

Re: Week 8 Results
The thing with tactics i find is that mine have got longer due to wanting to not get left behind when i see longer tactics from other people.
I don't mind how long they are i just feel like if i don't write the same length tactics i may miss out, even though if the instructions are there then it shouldn't matter.

Honestly Miky, a summarised tactics with a coherant plan beats a rambling jumble any day. Not that im accusing anyone of the latter

I have mine narrowed down but getting the point across. I find it easier split into Defense & Attacking tactics with a team talk
