Racing hoping to sign DC after the WC to replace the best 10 in the world Jonny Sexton. Probably for around €1m a year and DC will probably be injured for most the season again.

Never been there. Looks nice on Google. For some reason I prefer the West coast. Better surf and I like the basque region anyway.

How old was JW when he went 30? He probably had 4 good years right. Its a tight one I think.

For Carter its a no brainer although I imagine the hardline tax system in France is going to jump all over that salary.
To be honest it could be justified from a marketing perspective. Guys like Wilkinson, Carter etc can justify the money regardless of performance because of the draw they are for fans. I would mention however that JW fully immersed himself in the culture, the lifestyle which is why the French took to him. How Carter does is up to him.

If a guy gets up and leaves aged 33 I don't think many can have any complaints, rugby players have a short career and suffer a lot of physical complications thereafter too.... he's going to have to pay for all those knee replacements, hip replacements etc very early on in life so the money will be necessary.

Well, Jonny Sexton couldn't remedy the superficiality of this plastered together French team, which is saying something given Sexton's talismanic status for Ireland and Leinster. Can Carter succeed where Sexton couldn't? Or will it be 1.5m euros a year mainly down the drain from Racing? Carter's injury record certainly doesn't spell a positive ahead of the move.

Sexton is quality when he is in a quality team.
Racing had quality players but rarely look like a quality team.
It will be interesting for Sexton next season when he comes back to Leinster and finds out it is no longer the quality team he left behind.

What's the over/under on the number of games Carter plays in the season? Perpignan got half a game? So the betting spread would be interesting.

Racing look a lot better this year, maybe the improvement will continue into the 2015/16 season. I can't really see them getting worse with a player like Carter coming in...

They only paid Gareth Bales loose change to buy him! Really is that a record?

I think they introduced a loophole for sportsmen/women - so hi stax bill will be much lower than it would be in UK

unlikely but...

not really a loophole but any "impats" i.e. persons that have been living 5 years or more abroad prior moving can have a tax rebate of 30%. there is other rules that could allow his tax to be based on his last 4 years average revenue whic hwoudl obviously lower the income tax...then there is the possibility of having part of his salary paid into a NZ bank account (depending of the bliateral agreement between the countries it could be tax free). the 75% income tax is also appiclbale to sportsmen and women but only impacts anythign earned over 1M€ (I think his salary is closer to 1.1 in the end).

I think tax would have been factored in to his discussions to come to a figure after tax that he's comfortable with, which will still be more than the next guy down the line gets.................. unless he happens to be a guy named McCaw.

Has McCaw actually signed for an oveseas contract? I'd have thought if there is one player that won't lower himself to an overseas contract it would be McCaw. If anything he'd go because he just wants to keep playing but for me I just don't like the thought of him being subject to the local scene, media, crictics etc and running around in funny colours...just doesn't seem right. Precious I know... Rolling Eyes

Ronan O'Gara's column on the move. Says that Dan Carter will make a fortune off pitch as well in Paris.

Not sure Ali Williams is meant to stay that long...
Probably could replace one the wingers by Zac Guilford and add Nonu as well.

Toulon boss describes Nonu....

"He's a great centre and he's got great looks. At Toulon, we love this," said Boudjellal.

He's got great 'looks', crack up.

Yeah, that eyeliner is a special kind of look on a rugby player but fortunately he has biceps to back it up. Just looked at their roster, it's pretty damn formidable.
