Hearn launches attack on "petrified" Khan
First topic message reminder :
Looks like Eddie Hearn and Matchroom are upping the war of words in their bid to make Brook v Khan happen next Summer. I dont think Hearn realistically expects Khan to choose Brook if he has the option of facing Mayweather - but he has nevertheless decided to have a real go at Khan - accusing him of being both deluded and petrified:
Promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport is confident that IBF welterweight champion Kell Brook (33-0, 22KOs) would score a knockout victory over his domestic rival Amir Khan (30-3, 19KOs).
Brook returns to action in March. Hearn wants to match him against Khan in the summer.
In a recent interview, Khan said a fight with Brook would only happen under "his terms" and with Khan Promotions taking the lead role of the event.
At the moment, Khan is chasing a fight with WBC/WBA welterweight Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“He’s just deluded. Firstly what does it matter? What does it matter about control? I don’t care. It’s a co-promotion between Matchroom Promotions, Khan promotions or I don’t give a monkey’s promotions," Hearn told the Manchester Evening News.
"The fact is, if he wants to spoil the chance to earn more money than he could in any other fight, including Floyd Mayweather, and he doesn’t want to give the British public what they want then let him go ahead and become even more unpopular. Because that is what he does – just isolates himself from people.
Hearn feels Amir is genuinely scared of a fight with Brook.
“The most important thing is Amir Khan is petrified of Kell Brook. He doesn’t want to fight Kell. Kell will knock him out. And when he does, he will finish Amir’s career. Amir knows if he loses to Mayweather, he can come back and fight Kell. When Kell knocks Amir out, it’s done. I don’t believe Amir will fight him. I think he will run from Kell," Hearn said.
“And if that’s the case then he loses the chance to give the British public what they want and he loses the chance to fight for the world title.”
Brook is still recovering from being stabbed and would not likely face Khan in his next fight anyway (expect a low key opponent next) so this looks more like a points scoring excersise from Matchroom designed to put public opinion in Brooks corner should the fight happen down the line.

Some people just don't like the guy whatever he does Jabby. Shame as he is a good and entertaining boxer who fights the best. Hopefully he will leave some people on this forum who dislike him with egg on their face

Re: Hearn launches attack on "petrified" Khan
My opinions have swung back and forth with Khan over the years and any dislike of him has stemmed from his association with Warren and the tripe that they were spouting.
Was particularly aggrieved with his stint at LW when he was decked and almost stopped by Limond and Gomez. Can't recall which fight it was but Warren had been banging on about imminent World title fights and in the post match interview, when asked if he thought Amir was still ready for a World title shot, Warren exploded as if it was the most ridiculous question that had ever been asked.
Didn't like the issue of him avoiding legitimate domestic fights with Thaxton and Murray (who he may or may not have beaten) stating that they weren't in his league. Felt it was arrogant and dismissive considering the struggles he'd had previously.
However, one of my biggest gripes was when Warren/Khan took the Kotelnik fight and justified it by saying that he'd been selected as there weren't any fights at LW which at the time was quite frankly bollox. What they meant was there were no easy fights at LW so he avoided them and moved up to LWW then after winning the title, started carrying on like he was "King Sh!t of T*rd Mountain" culminating in some of the nonsense he was spouting when he was sparring with many and trained by Roach. His ego appeared to go into the stratosphere and he definitely needed taking down a peg or two.
He had some good performances although his opposition flattered to deceive (Judah and Paulie), his naivety cost him the Petersen fight and lord only knows what he was doing with Garcia...he'd been given enough warning that left hand was coming, but he showed guts against Maidana.
Don't see a problem with him fighting Mayweather but do feel he's being a bit too dismissive of Brook and if he focuses too much on Floyd he may risk p*ssing of Eddie to the extent that he gets frozen out of the picture on all fronts.

As I said the other day Dave sometimes you have to have the approach that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush or whatever the saying is. Mayweather is obviously a bigger fight than Brook, but as the whole Twitter poll proved, Floyd will do what he wants, deserving the fight or the fans wanting to see it matters nothing, Floyd will fight you if he feels like it. Khan is 28, in decent form and probably as good as he is likely to get. Really don’t want to see him sat around waiting for a call that may not come. Brook is available and easy to make, and lets be honest we can argue about how much it is worth, but Khan will still earn well for it. For me if Khan does not get anything definitive in terms of a guarantee from either Floyd or Manny within the next month he should make the Brook fight.

So. Your opinions have swung back and forth between blind hatred and utter contempt.
He hasn't helped himself with his comments down the years. He certainly has an arrogant streak, but most successful sportsmen do. Most of them have a bit more grey matter than amir and choose their words a bit more carefully. Always seemed like a nice enough lad with a foot on mouth problem to me.
I wouldn't worry about p*ssing off Eddie. It's The big fight out there for brook by a distance. Eddie will think with his pocket.

Was going to say something similar, milky. I mean, in the aftermath of the first Groves-Froch fight, Groves said that he would relish tearing Eddie a new one verbally in the build up to a rematch almost as much as he'd relish knocking Froch out, hinted that Hearn may have been somehow partly responsible for Foster's dodgy stoppage, threw in a few digs and a bit of ribbing about him storming the ring in the Froch-Bute fight and making up fake "options" for Froch out of thin air as a way of avoiding a rematch etc.....And even then at no point could you ever imagine Hearn thinking, "you know what, this guy needs a lesson in humility - he's not getting a shot!"
Too much money in a Groves-Froch rematch, and likewise the money and exposure on offer for Matchroom here will probably see him throwing superlatives at Khan at brushing off whatever little digs he has (and I don't think there'll be too many in any case) with a smile.

Eddie is just talking sense.
Khan thinks he is entitled to elite status and thus looks down on other fighters. The man is seriously annoying. How long are we going to have to listen to him call Mayweather's name like a heart broken ex who just won't let go.
Khan makes a fool of himself and has no respect out there.

Wasn't Maidana winning the poll before Khan asked his extended family to vote.

Quite right Dave. Looks like next year we will be going back to the 70s, minority governments existing via dodgy deals with the nationalists.Wish that boxing was more like the 70s,mind.

Maidana was the current WBA Welterweight champion at the time in fairness...........
Alphabet titles are so easy to win..................Britain has all of two guys that have them..
If only Mayweather fought the calibre of opponents Louis and Holmes did..............
Cherry picking only started in the 21st century didn't you know ??.....Boxers back in the day only fought for the glory of the sport....Money or feeding loved ones was never a primary concern !! ........

Khan is using his head more, if he had more ring smarts he'd be lethal, fact is, he is a bit thick in the ring. A show off.

Brook is adaptive reactive, Khan can only fight to a game plan, if it goes wrong he has no ability to change, it becomes a shoot out. If you can't see that then you have no business posting on this thread. Alexander is also thick in the ring, at times, pa pa pa!

Re: Hearn launches attack on "petrified" Khan
His jab was dominating Garcia, before he got timed. Not taking anything from DG, but that fight doesn't discredit Truss' point.
Not dominating someone steroided up to the eyeballs is hardly a counter-argument either. Not a legit win for LP, and only boxing/US corruption that hasn't over-turned it.
And Maidana beat the hell out of him for 1 round only, and won a couple of others in a fight Khan otherwise won handily - hence again Truss isn't incorrect.

Re: Hearn launches attack on "petrified" Khan
Graham was outboxing Jackson a zillion times better than Khan was with Garcia. Yet do we give two Poopie of how well he was boxing? Nope, we remember it as a devastating knockout and that is boxing.
Lets no make excuses that Khan, barely 30% in to the fight, was just plain unlucky and it wasn't his fault and he was making Garcia look like a journeyman - he wasn't.
There's a very good reason why FMJ has never been sparked. Lets think about it.... Ok time up. It's because he's that good!!!
God I hope he gets a marquee name and then gets splattered inside 3 rounds/loses every round before quitting on his stool before the 12th. Would end these silly arguments that he's any good once and for all.

Just responding to your comment that Khan's barely dropped a round in your eyes (aside from flukes/juiced fighters/gusts of wind knocking him down) yet has somehow lost 3 times.
