CD - sounded like a lot of composure in those closing phases to grab the winning score.

Dunno, but it's good to register a win.

Normandale has resigned for two more years. The article also mentions that he is Welsh Qualified in a year. . . Hasn't impressed mereally. Looks like he had a stormer in Coventry though.

What's up with that LV result? You had a good team out and were at home.

Dunno, but I doubt the LV is a priority. There we are.
9 nil up though then losing 9-43 must be a concern of sorts.

Not that good a team, probably only Tuculet and Amorisino were clear first team, while Reed and Knoyle has been there or there abouts.
Leicester team looks strong as well to be honest.
Still, not good to capitulate so easily

Re: Cardiff Blues Season Thread 3 - Danny Wilson Appointed Head Coach
Blues dominated the first 30 minutes, but seemed to have little clue as to how they would break down the Tigers defence. Even on the back foot we almost sneaked a couple of tries. On another day we may have seen a guy sinbinned as we defended.
Then we got a breakaway try, followed by one straight from the restart as the half ended. That must have knocked the fight out of the Blues and tigers dominated the second half.

It's as London Tiger said. Owen Williams looked good. Strange to see him in the LV. Patch came on at 12. But we really couldnt get anything going. The Tigers defense was solid. That dreams over now.

With Tuculet at 13 too.
Intriguing.

Nice to see Cook extend his contract. He's turning in to a great player. Also tickets for the Dragons game went on sale today.

It's positive that the players are being screened and diagnosed before anything serious happens. Wouldnt want to see rugby in the same situation as the NFL. Gutting for Rory though. Hope he does well in what ever he moves on to.

Re: Cardiff Blues Season Thread 3 - Danny Wilson Appointed Head Coach
Hammett gone.
Shocking.
I hope that the family reasons given are the ONLY reason.
If he has been pushed out because of the players of fellow coaches then we are in even bigger trouble.
What coach would want to take over when he knows any chances they put in place will be criticised and that the board will back his backroom/players over him.
We need to somehow magically make a quality coach appear out of nowhere who can be told NOW that they are taking over next season (or immediately) and be given free reign to choose their players/coaches.
Unfortunately I don't expect to see that, and we aren't going to be going anywhere with the same people in charge, the same players on the pitch and the same culture.
So that is now 4 years of 'rebuilding' completely wasted by some absolutely shocking board decisions regarding coaching, at least this one might be slightly excusable if it is down to family reasons.

606 - you're comments are spot on. Hammett hasn't had a good record but he comes across as a valuable asset. Maybe it's because of results he's departing? But to be fair you haven't got stuffed like you did under B and B. Having said that I'm watching you now. I had high expectations for the team pre-season but it's got to be said you are shocking. I think we'll overtake you in the league and hold that position. I also think we will win the challenge cup fixture against your lot.

Interesting. I wonder if we'll have threads calling for the disbandment of Blues with this result? As that is what would usually happen if Dragons got thumped by Treviso.

Blues paying price of failure, says Peter Thomas
Thomas firmly rejected any suggestion the cuts were a consequence of costs incurred through moving to the Cardiff City Stadium from the Arms Park.
“That is a lot of nonsense,” he said.
“If we hadn’t gone to the new stadium we would be in a far worse financial situation.
“The Arms Park is dying. It’s in decay. It’s falling apart.
“There’s no way we could compete in the modern era with the facilities available to us there.
“Our move to the new stadium was our saving grace.
“Our crowd numbers are up 30 per cent since we left the Arms Park, our turnover is up. Everything is going in the right direction.” Meeehh!

Cardiff Blues chief Richard Holland dismisses Arms Park return
New Cardiff Blues chief executive Richard Holland has dismissed the idea of leaving Cardiff City Stadium to return to play at Cardiff Arms Park.
In December joint head coach Gareth Baber suggested the Blues could make the move back to the city centre to combat falling attendances.
But Holland said: "My brief is to make it work at the Cardiff City Stadium, full stop."

Re: Cardiff Blues Season Thread 3 - Danny Wilson Appointed Head Coach
Luckily I though the game started at 8, so I missed the first half. Then barely paid attention for the second.
There was a time when I would make sure I was free when the Blues were playing so I could watch, but these days there seems to be no point. I missed the Munster game too, and by all accounts, haven't missed much.
The season is well and truly over, with only the Amlin quarter to go, which I expect we will lose badly at the moment.
And all hope I had of a clearout and some real progress next year has gone.
We are left with the same coaches, the same players and the same culture with pretty much no chance of change. We are unlikely to find a decent coach, and if we do, he will have no experience working at the Blues and will no be able to decide who he wants to keep on the player and coaching side.
The chief is a semi-professional coach and has shown nothing to suggest otherwise.
I miss Dai Young.
