Post your Favourite Boxing Quotes
Simple thread - Whats your favourite Boxing quote, whether it be from a boxer or about a boxer or about Boxing in general
I love Joe Louis's lines - "He can run, But he cant hide" - before the billy conn fight - most have heard of that line, but dont know where it came from
Or his
"Everybody wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die"
Or the line that was later used by Duran
"Yeah, I'm scared. I'm scared I might kill him" - Him being Shmelling
Could go on all day about joe louis, not to forget
"He was a credit to his race, the human race" - Some sports writer am to lazy to look up
Willie Pep was great for witty remarks
"My wives were good housekeepers, Each of them kept the house when they left."
or this classic one
Former opponent comes up to Pep on the streets and asks
"Do you recognise me?"
Pep - "Lie down so I can recognise you"
This is one that someone told me about from henry cooper
Woman goes to Cooper and complains about boxing saying its to brutal "Mr. Cooper, have you looked in the mirror lately and the state of your nose"
Cooper not giving a Damn "Madam, Have you looked in the mirror and seen the state of yours?, Boxing is my excuse, whats yours?"
Not sure if last one is true or is it just a joke, I got told that...

Cotto post Margarito 2: 'I can tast the defeat on him. He means nothing to me'. Loved it. Sounded like a Latino Ivan Drago.
Not boxing but former world strongest man and Mixed martial artist Maruisz Pudzinawski (if that's his name) said of his hands 'the left hand brings death, the right hand...even I'm afraid of'.

Foreman: "Bob, I cant chase these guys anymore"

Re: Post your Favourite Boxing Quotes
i think tex cobb has cornered the market in this... here's a cut and paste of some of his fine work.
'If you screw up in tennis, it's 15-love. If you screw up in boxing, it's your ass baby.'
'I've always believed the greatest crime a man can do is to take himself too seriously. Something like fighting is pretty ridiculous to take seriously. What I do is hit people. I'm not promoting anything that is real or valuable.'
'The toughest thing to do in the ring is restrain myself. I want to knock the other guy in the groin, but I know I'm not allowed to do that.'
'All I want to do is hit somebody in the mouth. It's a whole lot easier than working for a living. Don't make anything noble out of what I do.'
'I'lll fight any white man, black man, brown man or man of any other colour. I especially like it when they're yellow and having physical or mental breakdowns when they step in the ring.'
'I'd love to fight Gerry Cooney. But I have my price: twenty five cents and a loose woman.'
'Here's big, bad Earnie Shavers, probably the baddest man God ever allowed to walk on two legs, and he got up there with his bald head and his Fu Manchu and his bulging muscles and he stared at me. I cracked up. What did he think I was gonna do, leave? Hell, if I was that scared I woulda left before then.'
'Anybody can hit as hard as Earnie Shavers. The thing that makes Earnie Shavers so significant is that Earnie Shavers is gonna hit you that hard every single time he lays leather on you. I had never been in a situation like Earnie before. And if I have anything to do with it, I'm damn sure not gonna get into it again.'
Holmes doesn't hit as hard as Shavers. Nobody hits like Shavers. If anybody hit harder than Shavers, I'd shoot him.'
On being accused of talking to Holmes during their fight:
'If I wanted to communicate with Larry during the fight, I would have had to send him a letter. Every time I wanted to say something I found it hard speaking because he kept putting his left hand in my mouth.'
To the referree in the 13th round of the Holmes fight:
'Hey, you're white. Why don't you do something about this?'
To Holmes at the final bell:
'Let's party'.
On a rematch with Holmes:
'I don't think his hands could take the punishment.'
On Cosell's retirement during the fight:
'I can do my sport no greater service than this.'
'I'll do anything to keep from working for a living. If I've gotta fight a circus bear then put the drawers on him and let's get it on'.
On the fighter's life:
'You run for forty-five minutes, you train for an hour and a half, the rest of the time you hang out and talk tough'.
On being floored for the first time in his life:
'Nah, it didn't affect me. I just got up and carried on with my gameplan; stumbling forward, getting hit in the face.'
'I been knocked out once, by a Mexican bantamweight. How come? Six of my pals were swinging him round by the heels at the time.'
'Don King is one of the great humanitarians of our time. He has risen above that great term prejudice. He has screwed everybody he has ever been around. Hog, dog or frog, it don’t matter to Don. If you got a quarter, he wants the first twenty-six cents.'

Bert Sugar, editor of Boxing Illustrated, on Tommy Morrison, who recently suffered a knockout that again ruined his chance for a multimillion-dollar fight: "Morrison proved that he is an ambidextrous fighter. He can get knocked out with either hand."

Larry merchant came up with great lines also
"Maybe he bored himself to tears" - on Floyd crying after the Baldimor fight
"Arturo Gatti's best punch is the left cheek to the right glove"
"Mayweather is all Class, Judah is Made of all Glass"
"Whale-hunting was banned in Japan, but apparently no one told Mike Tyson about it" - cant remember what fight

Re: Post your Favourite Boxing Quotes
could feel his muscle tissues collapse
under my force. It's ludicrous these
mortals even attempt to enter my realm."
"There's no one perfect. We're always gonna do that. Jimmy
Swaggart is lascivious creature, Mike Tyson is lascivious -- but we're
not criminally, at least I'm not, criminally lascivious. You know what
I mean. I may like to fornicate more than other people -- it's just
who I am. I sacrifice so much of my life, can I at least get laid? I
mean, I been robbed of my most of my money, can I at least get
sucked off without the people wanting to harass me and wanting to
throw me in jail?"
"What I want in a woman is protection. Loyalty. Companionship.
Loyalty, friendship, companionship, ferociousness. I want her to
protect me, and have my back to the bitter end. If I have a fight, I
want her to jump in. Even if I'm winning; even if she's ninety
pounds. I like strong women—not necessarily a masculine woman—
but I like strong women. I like strong, say a woman who runs a
C.E.O. corporation. I like a strong woman with confidence—massive
confidence—and then I want to dominate her sexually."

Re: Post your Favourite Boxing Quotes
"Boxing with concrete in your gloves reduces head injuries because they can't punch as hard"
And quotes from people who aren't complete special$:
"Tijuana taxi drivers that my mum could've knocked out" prior to fighting Chavez in Mexico... "They must have been some tough taxi drivers" after getting spanked. Seem to remember he also said "there aren't 130,000 Mexicans who can afford tickets" before that number turned up to watch. He was surprisingly wrong though, must've all been working double shifts at their local motel on cleaning duties.
