Looking purely at the pictures I'd say Zebre by 10.

Wonder who, in the refereeing triumverate of pure idiocy, we get in the middle - Clancy, Lacey or Fitzgibbon? Although there is a new incompetent on the block - Conway. Might be him? Nothing surer than whoever it is will be from the IRFU and they will utterly feckin useless !

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Zebre, 6 March
Finn Russell, Peter Horne, Sean Lamont, Tommy Seymour, Ryan Grant, Rob Harley and Tim Swinson have all returned to the club and are available for selection, with Adam Ashe and Alex Allan also cleared to play.
Very lucky that (with respect) Zebre is the opposition just before the holiday lay-off. An absolute horsing is a pre-requisite - if we don't get the TBP by half time, then serious questions need to be asked.
Russell needs the game time, as do Seymour and Grant. Harley probably needs resting given his relatively insipid performances for the national side.

What's happening with Maitland, is he still injured?

Formally listed as having a fecked shoulder (technical, medical term) on the Munster team annoucement.
Worried about him and Mr Cusack.

I assume the team announcement is more accurate than the Scotsman, this is what Stuart Bathgate wrote for them
Maitland is back in training this week, and could figure in his team’s home league game against Zebre on Friday evening
article I took that quote from

Certainly hoping Maitland will be back very soon, didn't seem to be any indication of his injury being so serious to have kept him out so long. We really need him back for Scotland as well as Glasgow asap.
Also from what I'm reading online it would appear that Kevin Locke doesn't fancy making the switch to union despite the SRU believing he did, apparently some very angry people at Murrayfield as a result.
To be fair to Locke, if he had watched the Italy game before making his mind up then you can't really be surprised by his decision.

Agreed, plus Strauss and Ashe could use the gametime coming back from injury.
TBP required here for Glasgow.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Zebre, 6 March
To be honest this game cannot come soon enough after last weekend's (and probably next weekend's) disaster.
I agree Harley needs a rest after possibly being rushed back from injury but I presume Toonie intends to play him or else why get him back from the squad? Apart from him, I do think we should be trying to play as many of the returning internationals as possible so they remember what it is like to win.
Maitland, Ashe and Russell should be the first names down. Maitland needs to start at Twicks so we should look for at least an hour from him in this game and repeatedly give him the ball 5 yards from the line so he can score a try.
A likely back line of something like Niko, Russell, Horne, Vernon, Maitland, Seymour & Murchie with Price, Lyle & Lamont on the bench should be enough for a bonus point.

To be honest I'd go with Lyle at 12 ahead of Horne, and possibly Lamont at 13.
Isn't Horne injured anyway.....

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Zebre, 6 March
Is Henners still injured? I'd rather see him in the 23 for Twickers than Frodo (is it possible for cp10 the statman to tell us whether Frodo is actually slower than Fes buying a round or are we all just imagining it?).
9.Henners
10. Dancer
11.NoMaits
12. Lyle (Dunbar needs a rest before singlehandedly destroying England next week)
13. Richie Vee ( needs a rest before singlehandedly destroying England next week)
14. Selkirk Pixie/ Hughes ( Seymour needs a rest before singlehandedly destroying England next week)
15. Murchie ( Guess why Hogg needs a rest)
That should be strong enough to subdue the Zebre. Although if Furra Linee is fit I would like to see him come on after 60 mins as Saturday was not his fault: even if he had found touch our second 40 was not acceptable.
The pack is down to bare bones, again, and Toonie will have to balance the need for a win with the need to rest players like Ickle Jonny. ( N.B. there are no players like Ickle Jonny. He will single handedly destroy the English pack next week)
I won't even try to predict what the Tombola will throw out for 1-8 on Friday.

Makes Naka and R Wilsons' self-imposed exiles all the more annoying.
A lot of guys have played a lot of rugby and they need to be managed.
Toonie is good at this, however.
Incidentally, I have read that a lot of the guys who don't normally play like Spinks and Braid played both well and bravely against Munster. Want to comment that this kind of thing makes my day and is a credit to the club.

You can add Lyle to that as well, who has been really steady since being given his chance. Nothing flash, but good basics and workrate.

Glasgow team:
Murchie, Jones, Lamont, Braid, Van der Merwe; Horne, Matawalu; Grant, Bryce, de Klerk, Harley, Kellock, Ashe, Fusaro, Strauss.
Bemch : Hall, Allan, Fagerson, Eddie, Bordill, Price, Vernon, Bryce.
Disappointed to see Strauss - I think he needs a rest!

Why play Ashe at 6 and Struass at 8, and not the other way around

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Zebre, 6 March
A pretty strong Glasgow team all things considered, should be more than enough for Zebre, but I said the same thing about Italy last week!
I would expect most of the likely Scotland squad players will get pulled at around the half time mark, that is what happened to the ones given back to Edinburgh the other week.
I guess with our weakness in the second row now, we may see a bit more of Harley there between now and the end of the season.

You may well find that they mix and match a bit to keep them guessing. If Ashe is really in the frame for next week, then I doubt he will play the whole game anyway, even though he probably needs the miles. More likely he will bench and Dents will start.

Glasgow Warriors team to play Zebre, GUINNESS PRO12, Scotstoun Stadium, Friday 6 March (kick-off 7.35pm) – live on BBC ALBA:
15. Peter Murchie
14. Lee Jones
13. Sean Lamont
12. Connor Braid
11. DTH van der Merwe
10. Peter Horne
9. Niko Matawalu
1. Ryan Grant
2. Kevin Bryce
3. Rossouw de Klerk
4. Rob Harley
5. Al Kellock (Captain)
6. Adam Ashe
7. Chris Fusaro
8. Josh Strauss
Replacements:
16. Dougie Hall
17. Alex Allan
18. Zander Fagerson
19. James Eddie
20. Will Bordill
21. Ali Price
22. Richie Vernon
23. Glenn Bryce
Not available due to injury: Mike Cusack (foot), Tyrone Holmes (knee), Pat MacArthur (head), Sean Maitland (shoulder), Henry Pyrgos (knee), Gordon Reid (knee), Duncan Weir (arm) and Jon Welsh (hand).
Cornrow Braid and Schlong at centres. What odds would you have got on that a month ago?
Looks like Henners has no chance of making the England game: his World Cup hopes could be looking slimmer by the day.
Big Al, Rob Harley and Jedi our three locks. Not ideal really. Our front and back rows, however, look good.
We have two centres on the bench so it could be musical chairs behind the scrum if anyone gets injured. But that's where Richie V will show his genius.
I still think the Tombola has produced a winning hand. 5points Glasgow.

I'd have Strauss and Ashe the other way around, but otherwise it's a decent team that ought to deliver 5 points against Zebre.
Big game for Bryce. By my reckoning the 3rd hooker slot for the World Cup is wide open.

Yes, Fusaro will be champing at the bit for some rugby. He's seem himself drop behind Cowan, Watson and Blake, and will surely want to get some form for the end of season run in.

Re: Glasgow Warriors v Zebre, 6 March
Yes, Bluto, Arthur and Fozzie is a very good back row. We may even see that taking the field in the World Cup.
9, 10, 12, MadMata, Furra Linee and Cornrow. Looks to have pace and creativity. Then the ball gets to Schlong at 13. Will the wingers see the ball? Will we actually be hoping for the appearance of Richie V and his much lauded distribution skills?
On the man management side the Tombola has done well sticking by FurraLinee, it would have been easy to play Cornrow but as a fly half Toonie probably knows how damaging it can be to be blamed for a defeat. Either that or he's a Tammy Winnette fan.

Great to see Fozzy back - hopefully get right back on it where he left off. Way better bs than Cowan and gives away much less penalties. Braid looks useful -lovely lay off for De Klerk last week - and he kicks well too. Messed about a wee bit by Scottish but he's back now and rightly in he side. Great that Toonie has kept faith with Pete Horne. We need a 5er but I hope they don't come out and try to do it in the first 10 mins as has happened before. Win the game first, then see what happens

Was any reason given for Ashe dropping out? Hopefully it's not a re-occurrence of his injury, but at least it gives Harley some more game time at 6 rather than lock I guess. Referee has been pretty spot on so far, the second incident by the Zebre scrum half wasn't as bad as the first, but the first one probably deserved a yellow on its own, especially as there were two Zebre players raking away on Kellock.

It's a shame Glasgow are so decimated by injuries - we could do with Harley being subbed off soon.

Agreed, but the game should be secure now barring a miracle for Zebre so might as well get Harley off now - plus Glasgow may be under orders to only play Harley for 40 minutes anyway.

With Kellock going off injured, the decision to let Tom Ryder leave is getting more and more misguided... Although to be fair, it would have been difficult to predict this number of unavailable second rows!
