The Sun reported an England international and Premier League star was arrested for allegations of underage sex with a 14 year old girl, and when police went to arrest him they found a loaded gun as well.

Durham police confirmed they arrested a 27 year old man.

Durham = Newcastle or Sunderland and England player.

Looks like Adam Johnson unless Billy Jones has an England career that passed me by.

I've seen the apparent pixelated face shot, DZ probably saw those bangers underneath the protruding Bidvest logo, hence why he said you could make the mistake.

I've seen a picture of some girl who is the alleged victim based on Facebook and Twitter.

Glad I'm old enough to not find 'girls' attractive. It's probably been at least five years since I thought anyone under the age of 25 was attractive. At least you can be sure with a 'woman' that she's not close to that line.

Ends up that the photo I saw was just his actual ruddy girlfriend again. I'm not sure I want "15 year old girl Adam Johnson" on my google image search history so might leave that one be!

Why did he do it...?  Well, all the usual reasons I suppose.  Perhaps he didn't know she was a youngster.  Perhaps she did make the running.  Who knows..?  

At the end of the day, he's an adult, married man with a family, who is expected to behave like one and not be led by his dick.  As a footballer, he must know that there are girls..... and some are worldly wise way beyond their years..... out there who just want that particular notch on their bedpost.  For her, it's one to cross off of her bucket list.  For him, it's charges of Statutory R@pe.

Oh well, what will be will be <sigh>.  He may find himself in Chokey over this and when he comes out, doubtless those agenda driven newspapers who we all despise, yet buy, will blazon " (insert club name here) To Sign Released Child R@pist" all over their back pages.

Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson has been charged with three counts of sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
The 27-year-old, from Castle Eden, County Durham, was initially arrested on 2 March.
He was also charged with one offence of grooming when he answered bail at a police station earlier, Durham Police said.
He will appear before Peterlee Magistrates' Court on 20 May.
Gerry Wareham, from the Crown Prosecution Service, said he had authorised police to charge Johnson under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
He said the offences are alleged to have been committed on a single victim between 30 December 2014 to 26 February this year.
"May I remind all concerned that the defendant has a right to a fair trial," he said.
"It is very important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.
"I would also remind people that the complainant in this case is entitled to lifelong anonymity under the law. For these reasons, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further."

Oh this is bloody stupid (presuming he didn't know her actual age, and the sex was purely consensual).

The grooming charge would suggest he did know her age and you have to assume that logs of the initial conversation are available.

The grooming charge is suggesting that he did know her age, he's innocent until proven guilty, but if he is guilty, he better have a 2nd career lined up, no-one will touch him with a barge pole.

The grooming charge could be anything from actual grooming to texts to her when he thought she was 18+, and probably more in between too

The problem I have is over recent years some players think they are beyond the law and they find out they aren't.

The fact he's even gone near a kid, even if he thought she was 16,17 or 18 shows how stupid he is.

I wouldn't have thought a Premiership footballer with a few quid in the bank would have a problem attracting female company of similar age to him.

There is obviously more then meets the eye or otherwise they wouldn't have charged him.

But as I have already said, there appears to be an element of 'grooming' involved which suggests he did know....

Ignorance is not a defence.

It might help in sentencing, but it isn't a defence to the crime.

That's the relevant law, absolutely nothing about knowing the age of the person, there is no reasonable test. If you do it, you're guilty.

If found guilty, of just that charge could face 3-7 years in custody, then with the grooming on top could be more. His career is over if found guilty obviously.
