I quit being a Nadal fan
I'm afraid I've decided that enough is enough. I cannot keep going on supporting Rafael Nadal.
I will admit that a part of me still wants to cling on to my previous support for Nadal. The Vamos-ing, the celebrations, the thrill of always being the underdog... it all has its benefits.
However I think the negatives of supporting Nadal is too much. Firstly he takes way too much time in between points, and keeps picking his butt. It's really off-putting when I'm just settling down to watch some tennis.
Secondly his interviews are extremely boring. If he wanted he may not even turn up, and I'm sure any of his fans could do his interview for him. We all know what he's going to say anyway. 'For sure, will be a difficult match, no? Daveed is a bery dangurus player, I have to try my best and play my best tennis to have a chance to win, no?' Zzz, how boring.
Thirdly he keeps getting injured every 2 seconds. Supporting Nadal is like supporting some Jenga blocks built by a 3 year old which are extremely unstable. Every day he seems to have new parts of his body which get injured.
Lastly I want to support a player who can hit beautiful one handed backhands like Federer, who doesn't need to grunt to get the ball over the net, someone whose average net clearance isn't 5 metres high on the forehand. Unfortunately Nadal is not that guy.

He's a fiend, no doubt about it.
I love that clip.

Rafa's fiddling with his wedgie before every serve is quite amusing though, along with his OCD arrangement of drinks bottles...
You'd think someone that is that rich and has so much input into the clothing he uses would have managed to find some underwear that didn't ride up

IMBL - Don't quit now. It's the European clay court season coming up. Rafa's still favourite for the French in my book.

Yep, another tennis season, another chance for Nadal to ramble on about his butt in post-match conferences:sirfredperry wrote:IMBL - Don't quit now. It's the European clay court season coming up. Rafa's still favourite for the French in my book.

Haddie, there was no need to send me a PM saying you are upset with me, we all have our different paths we follow in tennis.

Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
Well, on first sight I thought it was a (pretty lame) April Fool's.
But then I read the article more carefully ; and soon realised that almost all the comments & thoughts of IMBL are in fact irrefutable (to use an adjective that made frequent appearances in WUM postings on the old 606 )
I mean ..... those abuses of the time-between-points rule.... the constant butt-picking ..... the grunting ....the somewhat repetitive (and occasionally tedious) interviews .....
As much as I think Rafa is a truly great player, and one who has undeniably brought much to this fine sport .....all the negatives highlighted by IMBL are demonstrably 100% true.
Okay, there is some exaggeration wrt 'injured every 2 seconds'. More like every 2 months or so, to be fair.
However, we then get another dose of reality with the reference to the undeniably wonderful SHBH to be seen from the Federer racquet - a shot of sheer tennis beauty when at its very best.
So .....no April Fool's this time. But in fact, a bit of a surprise that you would give up on Rafa after all these years.
Meanwhile, comfort yourself with this thought ......

Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
Excuse me, what bad taste? I think it's a very creative and intriguing piece, you know, even sensational, considering the drama involved. I mean Nadal fans typically protects their "boy" like the Virgin Mary cradles her infant come what may....and here we have a very staunch nadal going out of his way to denounce his (ex-) hero. WoW! But I don't believe a word of it, dare say this is just an outright lie evidenced by the fact that the same author in another article just after this one proclaimed that "I am a nadal fan." A rather disturbed one, I might add.Haddie-nuff wrote:It matters not if I am a Nadal fan.. I'm not even sure of what is happening here? Supposedly an April Fool's prank, but it reads no differently to most of IMBL's more recent work. Replace Nadal with Federer, and Injuries with Moët, and it feels like previous articles.

Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
Thank you ZZ .. its an article for non Nadal fans .. yes some would find it amusing. (notice I said some) If this article again had Federer as the butt end of a so called joke.. who then would be laughing ???We noticed the repercussions that Socal's article received only last week.. and it was not as derogatory as this. it was digging at his fans .. on the player.
But thats only me being sensitive again.. what a cop out !!!

Haddie - no point worrying about it for more than a minute or two
Like you say, some find it all amusing ; and some don't.
At the end of the day, it's only fish & chip wrapping, to coin an (old) phrase !
And it's not as though as Rafa himself gives a jot about all the trivia that gets written about him on the web - or would even bother to read it.
Least of all when you're inside the top ten highest-earning athletes of 2014 ......

I had same reaction as you. Clearly a typical unfunny attempt at a joke by Amri- lame April Fools joke, but then everything he lists other than the injured part is definite factual traits of the guy. All things a fan would overlook as they concentrate on other better aspects of his career. It's almost like deep down Amri really believes what he is pretending to mock. Strange for sure.

I must concur with this sentiment - I mean how could you stand watching all those matches, all these years, with that laundry list of problems you have with him? I know there's a thin line between love and hate, but I'm guessing your's a little more broad?
Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
It's April fools day... What the heck are you all doing getting angry and calling people attention seekers?! He's clearly joking using old reasons people didn't like him. Good lord cone on now...
