I quit being a Nadal fan
First topic message reminder :
I'm afraid I've decided that enough is enough. I cannot keep going on supporting Rafael Nadal.
I will admit that a part of me still wants to cling on to my previous support for Nadal. The Vamos-ing, the celebrations, the thrill of always being the underdog... it all has its benefits.
However I think the negatives of supporting Nadal is too much. Firstly he takes way too much time in between points, and keeps picking his butt. It's really off-putting when I'm just settling down to watch some tennis.
Secondly his interviews are extremely boring. If he wanted he may not even turn up, and I'm sure any of his fans could do his interview for him. We all know what he's going to say anyway. 'For sure, will be a difficult match, no? Daveed is a bery dangurus player, I have to try my best and play my best tennis to have a chance to win, no?' Zzz, how boring.
Thirdly he keeps getting injured every 2 seconds. Supporting Nadal is like supporting some Jenga blocks built by a 3 year old which are extremely unstable. Every day he seems to have new parts of his body which get injured.
Lastly I want to support a player who can hit beautiful one handed backhands like Federer, who doesn't need to grunt to get the ball over the net, someone whose average net clearance isn't 5 metres high on the forehand. Unfortunately Nadal is not that guy.

Im not lags, but thank you. The last time I played an April Fool on anyone was when I was a kid. I like laughing with people not at them..Rafa is in a bad place at the moment and for me I dont get the ridicule... but hey I wont spoil the fun Ill leave the forum to the children..
Come on, Haddie .... some perspective please. You seem to very cranky these days !! It's a tennis forum
Rafa is not in a bad place.
He plays tennis for a living. How many of us dream of doing exactly that. AND ..... for the sort of untold riches that Rafa earns.
He is admired & respected by millions throughout the globe. He is pestered for photos & autographs wherever & whenever he appears in public.
Syrian refugees, with no access to medical treatment/facilities - and sometimes very little food - are in a bad place. The family & friends of all those who lost their lives in last week's tragic air disaster en route from Barcelona to Dusseldorf ...... they are in a bad place.
Rafa Nadal is not "in a bad place".
No way.

Fascinating study in thought processes of different posters on v2 and what it means to be a dedicated fan.
Nice FH, IMBL, with a good dash of Topspin! Even Nadal, if he reads this thread, would be very happy to see such a FH.

Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
I'm more interested in Rafa himself. Wow, I didn't know he's no.9 in the top ten highest income list for sportsmen, in 2014. Those amount stated there, they didn't even include appearance fees and exhos! I understand Rafa made quite a bit in aopearance fees on his comeback in 2013, at SA clay court swing, not forgetting his SA exho tour at end of 2013. I think if he's not going to get back to his competitive self anymore, he can afford to retire anytime with the wealth that he has earned for himself. Well done Rafa, who would have thought that 15 years ago, that Rafa could come so far in his career achievements and make such a fortune for himself. Whatever happens from now on, Rafa is already a legend, together with the likes of Fed and Sampras, Laver and Borg.

It could have been an April Fools joke but look deeper and I'd say not. I see no refuting it from the poster as one normally does once the day is over. Also does other things like mention contents of a PM from another poster to the whole forum - that is way too low a blow actually. PM = PRIVATE message. Oh dear IMBL I really expected much better from you.

Murdoch took one look at this and called it straight off. Others can't work it out after a full day.
It is so bloody obvious that it's an April Fools joke.

Going steady and another 15 weeks, highly possible that he overtakes Nadal's no-of-weeks at #1. How many of us saw this coming?laverfan wrote:Belovedluckyboy wrote:Whatever happens from now on, Rafa is already a legend, together with the likes of Fed and Sampras, Laver and Borg.

Yes at first glance I'd say it was but look deeper.
In my lifetime of experience April Fools are acknowledged once people have been caught out after the day is over but we have seen none of that at all so until IMBL does that (and they haven't) then it should be presumed as real. Especially, look at the posts that followed with IMBL spouting off a PM received to the whole board (not something I'd associate you doing when it is all just an April's Fool wouldn't you say)?

The fact that it is an April Fools joke is not really the issue for me here though. Fine enough in principle but when you allow that joke to escalate into a situation where you announce PM's sent to you in confidence to the whole forum is out of order in my opinion so it is a joke that became irresponsible.

Well it seems that nothing is sacred CC PMs sent in confidence.!! ??The whole then becomes a joke to two posters who discuss it on ANOTHER PUBLIC FORUM, n.o.t in private.!! says a lot about the integrity of some people
So folks be very aware of what you say.. it may be taken down and used as the subject of a discussion or indeed amusement on another forum

HN, good that it happened, I mean PM in a Tennis/Sports forum is a joke, should be banned, and only Mods allowed to be PM'ed, unless it has *FLIRT* on subject.
Chill now, don't get all morally righteous, IMBL is your fellow Nadal friend, not the end of the world with that PM, not seen it thought, was is hot?

He makes an obvious April Fools joke, some people fall for it (badly), the saga continues, and I mention on another forum how the joke (which he also posted there) has gone down badly here because people having fallen for it don't take the news well.
Integrity?

Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
Last post on the thread from me:
-I didn't reveal any details or specific contents of the PM, just that someone was upset with me (which was obvious as that poster was also very angry publicly at the time)
-My rule for PMs staying private is that they will stay so; unless I feel it is rude or impolite in tone or content. This is a tennis forum, no one knows the poster's name in real life, so for all intents and purposes they are anonymous anyway. If posters have the courtesy to be polite, I will have the courtesy to keep it private anyway.
-I doubt many people even noticed or spent any time thinking about the fact I mentioned I received a PM when I first wrote it. It was in one post in a 50 post page. However the fact so many people kept going on and on about probably brought it to more people's attention.
It makes me wonder, are these people actually concerned about no one finding about the fact he/she sent me a PM, or are they just trying to be self righteous ?

Yes integrity but what would you know of that..dont come holier than thou with me. What am I on about, you know bloody well what Im on about. I just laugh at the fact that you think you are so clever that nobody can see through you
You discuss and laugh at posters on this forum on another forum,Heh??? if that is in kindergarten book of humour then so beit .. but posters on here should be aware. That is what you do...Yes I know what is disclosed on the other forum IMBL told me in several PM's .and perhaps IMBL would like me to disclose that but somehow I think not eh?? IMBL
As CC has said it has gone way past whether it was an April fool's joke or not.. you have seen to that..
Now run away and play you have had your laugh.. you being such a busy man and all that

Well you mention it was Haddie and the substance of the PM. PM = PRIVATE message. Meaning between the sender and receiver and not to be broadcast to the whole forum. Sorry IMBL but that is a big no no and I expected so much better from you.
The basic aspect of the April Fool joke I had no problem with but what went thereafter well....

Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
Not a question of being 'self- righteous' IMBL.
More about trying to get you to accept that a PM is PRIVATE ......no ifs, no buts. (If the sender chooses to disclose its content .....well, that's an entirely different matter).
But you really should know this already ; and you're effectively compounding your poor judgement by even attempting to somehow justify the disclosure.

Re: I quit being a Nadal fan
Oh please, this is a total over-reaction over nothing.
This is a tennis forum, so posters are basically anonymous anyway, despite that for me Private Messages stay private... unless they are rude in tone or content.
So people can know that for future, if you send me an unwanted message which is rude in tone or content, then I can't guarantee I won't tell anyone. If the PM is so extremely rude it is bordering on abusive (which it wasn't in this case), then that is against the house rules.
The only exception I would make is if what was told to me was clearly a secret... however this wasn't the case here- I just said a poster was angry with me which was obvious anyway as that poster was making his/her anger public.
And if you had any concern about disclosing the content, I doubt you would have kept going on about it, or CC reposting what I've said on another page again... it's obviously just self righteousness... because by doing all this you've brought it to more people's attention.
I doubt anyone even particularly cared about it or even noticed when I first posted it.

If the PM is rude in tone or content then the people to tell are the Mods that is what they are there for just as private messages are called that for a reason. Anyway I am done here and off to watch tennis.

No, that's only if PMs are insulting/abusive, which this one wasn't.
