It's not quite got me as giddy in the knees as the first trailer, but I absolutely cannot wait. It's the most I've looked forward to a film release in my life!

Re: New Star Wars trailer!
Could have posted this on the trailer thread . Looks awesome though, very much in the tone of the originals as opposed to episodes 1-3, exactly how it should be. Apparently Lucas let slip a script which showed one of the characters getting killed off, I won't spoil it for you, but I will say I was disappointed!

- Spoiler:
- I quite like the idea. Similar to the way Abrams worked with the Star Trek reboot. Had Nimoy Spock in it, to tie the whole franchise together but he wasn't the focal point. Think by killing off Han Solo (assuming it isn't all an elaborate bluff!) works in that way, shows that they honour the originals but very much want to put a new stamp on these! On the other hand, Han Solo is brilliant! Swings and roundabouts.

Jdizzle, pretty much agree with you there, but I still don't like it! The footage from this new one reminds of TESB and ROTJ a lot, they were both the greatest. Lucas might pull this off, much unlike the Indiana Jones kick-start... (I don't mind it tbh).

Re: New Star Wars trailer!
If someone did support it 100%, you'd have to question whether they actually did enjoy the originals at all! ESB > SW > ROTJ for me. I'm desperately trying to not get too excited, but I'm beginning to believe they might actually pull this off and it be brilliant! KOTTCS was a load of crap though!

Looks frikkin awesome!
How many more teaser trailers are they going to do? Think I'd rather wait now, until it's release.

Re: New Star Wars trailer!
problem with this is, with it being star wars its going to hyped massively and will very likely not match the hype. they do have the advantage of it not being possible to be worse than 1,2 and 3 though. i'll go watch it but im not expecting too much

Seen various news articles about it showing the original pics of han and Chewy alongside the latest ones.

Re: New Star Wars trailer!
What do I hope from the new attempt at getting it Right when so much went wrong in the first three attempts to replicate the magic?
Well:
I hope for Magic. That's the biggest ingredient the Classic Star Wars had. It's hard to make younger audiences realise the impact of it's scope back then but it was full of magic. So that's what I hope for this re-awakening - that something magical happens to trap another generation of kids to the Star Wars universe.
AND in that light................... these are the specifics.
I hope it will not look like or have the rhythms of J J Abrams other movies. It's hard to tell from the snippets but this is Star Wars, not Star Trek. The rhythms are totally different. It should feel different. Example: That visual trick he uses in Star Trek that has constant flashes of light drift and pulse in the foreground, like lense flares - fine for Star Trek - if I see it lamely repeated in SW I'll be disappointed. And let the camera rest for longer periods. No need for a constant chaos of movement.
The locations (planets). This was one of the really great aspects of the Original Trilogy. Immersing yourself in the topography of the planets. Yes, often sound-stage created but also time and effort used to bring the real locations forward as 'characters' in their own right. Not to be simply used to move the plot along. In the early days, Lucas tapped into many classics, from Lawrence of Arabia to Metropolis to Spaghetti Westerns to old Gothic Horror movies (Dagobah) - allowing the planets time to breathe and allowing characters to settle for a time in them. Let us feel the Universe these characters travel through. Let's feel the remoteness. Let's even have old analogue interference noise with transmissions! Let's sense the vastness of the Star Wars World.
Technology - for me perhaps the most magical aspect of all about the originals and a major fault for me with the newer trilogy. It's not perfect, not always pretty, sleek and highly shined with turtle wax . The Technology of the Star Wars universe is lived-in. It has history. Dirt, grime, rust, wiring, spaceships that need repairing, helmets that look like they've had a tough history, robots that have an old-car panel-beaten production line look to them. In other words, designed by craftsmen who know real shape through modelling rather than rendered quickly by intern CGI graduates who know only their stylus and pads.
Finally Script.... I hope the older characters remember who they are and were, and that their traits remain with new writers. Again, I hope the characters are given time to just be rather than being always pushed along to worship the plot. 'No time for down time Han! Get moving. You're meant to be giving details of the plot development to Leia.' Get the mood right. We enjoy downtime if the script writers are good enough to make it an enjoyable place to be.

I agree with those points fly. You sound like a man who knows what he likes!
The technology part of your post is interesting. I think thats what turned a lot of people off episodes 1 - 3. Everything was shiny and new and lacked character. There was too much CGI involved and although it looked good, it can't beat the real thing. Good to see Star Wars 7 was filmed in different locations including Skellig Michael.
I hope the fight scenes don't go on forever. I was watching transformers a few years back and couldn't stick it to the end because the fight scenes dragged on and on. It seems to be the norm these days..

Same here, and I queued up for hours to watch Fellowship of the Ring. If this film blows me away like that did, I will actually cry in the cinema.JDizzle wrote:It's the most I've looked forward to a film release in my life!

Re: New Star Wars trailer!
Luke's father appeared at the end of Episode VI, having learned the secret of living on through the force. So he'll technically always be there, but if Abrams gives even a second of screen time, he's detracting massively from the new plot.

That's because that isn't a new recording, it's taken from Return of the Jedi.

I'm not entirely sure, I just know that it's not a new recording, hence why Mark Hamill sounds so young.

This has to be the most hyped film I can remember. And with bloody good reason. Can't wait till January, as I doubt I'll be able to get a ticket before then.

I'm not worried about the 3D aspect. In fact I hope they don't rely too much on special affects.

It's not usually something that I care about in the least, the local indy cinema for me is a proper old school wooden chair thing where they do £1 screenings on Monday evenings. For this though I'm going to the chains and getting ripped off.

Yes, Disney have their own list of flops etc, but another plus is JJ Abrams, so it's definitely in the '+' bracket of expectation.

I also hope the new film brings some humour back, like han used to give, and like Abrahams did with the star trek films. There were many things wrong with the last three, and being too serious was one of those.

I thought Revenge of the Sith was a very good film. Didn't need the humour in it.
Needs to be witty humour and not forced. It was Han's one liners that clicked.

Nice little posers from DS
I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but the trailers have given me genuine goose bumps - I'll be there on the 18th being ripped off for overpriced popcorn at the local Odeon

This is pretty clever in that its all the released footage from the trailers merged into one in what they perceive to be the chronological order of the film.

Looking at Ford, Fisher and Hamill I thought at first it was a trailer for a remake of "Cocoon"

I liked revenge of the sith and the other 2 were alright. Not great but alright.
The shiny spaceships etc were supposed to be like that. They represented a freedom of expression across the galaxy which is why you generally never saw two of the same ship. In a way it is similar to the classic car of the 50's 60's being replaced by the mass produced Ford escorts or volvos of the 80's
