Conor Mcgregor vs Mayweather
“I don’t look at a man who’s expert in one area as a specialist,” the UFC featherweight contender told Esquire. “I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather — pound-for-pound boxing’s best — if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds. It would take me less than thirty seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him.”
No s..t Conor.
Think Nadal would beat Rory Mcilory in tennis as well.
Seriously just because both are fighting sports you get idiots like this trying to steal spotlight by comparing themselves to boxers.
This is something like school kids come out with.
Yes I am bored on a Friday and I thought I would try and discuss a rather pointless topic.
I await your comments/insults!

Re: Conor Mcgregor vs Mayweather
The time of the brilliant technicians in UFC is long gone, it has for quite some time been a jack of all trades sport where they would almost to a man lose in every discipline that they train at any decent level. Mcgregor is a tool of the highest order and I can't wait to see Aldo shut him up for good.
Will add that Georges Saint Pierre was a master in full contact Karate but he was very much the minority, none of the current exponents of BJJ can hold a candle to the Gracies for instance.

Had this elsewhere already, it's absolutely ridiculous to even try and compare the 2 as it's different sports.

Pointless argument but McGregor annihilates Floyd. McGregor for all his bluster and bullsh!t is on a tear at the minute. Aldo will have his hands full in July and if he wants to keep his belt and his head, he'd better be prepared to put in a superhuman effort. Can't say I'm a fan of McGregor's babble but he's a good fighter to watch and always give value for money (might even be the first entertaining fight Floyd's been in!!!!!!)

I enjoy watching McGregor and am a fan, just thought was a bit stupid. Though he achieved headlines and has idiots like me bringing it up so good on him.
Not sure how McGregor v Aldo will play out. Conor is a great fighter to watch, very little wrestling from him.

I'd pick most kung fu experts to annihilate Floyd..........
I'd also pick a guy with a gun to beat a guy with a knife...........
Just as relevant..

Yeah pointless statement from McGregor. Sounds like a bit of a mug, always giving it the biggun but utterly charmless and humourless.
Shares a lot in common with Mayweather himself in that regard. I think someone on the podcast was commenting the other day how boring they find the money character. Couldn't agree more.

It really annoys me when this stupid argument always comes up and boxing fans are 99% of the time the disrespectful ones. Yeah sure, most of MMA fighter's striking is much below pro boxer but it should be. Many of the guys would never done any striking until their late teens/early twenties as they come from another discipline.
McGregor is a pantomime character who is cashing in on his antics, fair play to him but he is disrespectful.

I like McGregor but perhaps he should stick to his sport for now. Bit early for him to trash talk a fighter who has been top of his game for the best par of 15-20 years.
Definitely enjoy watching Conor fight. Unorthodox, classy striker. Fun to watch.

As for Pele Reid, irrespective of his martial arts background, he was always going to be shyte, but then Vitali made a successful transition from one to the other but fair play if you want to dismiss it out of hand entirely.
However, maybe McGregor's just thinks that if Mayweather is getting $180 million then maybe he should try having a real fight (or something)

Re: Conor Mcgregor vs Mayweather
I don't mind trash talk, don't expect fighters to be the most respectful characters. Some of them are believable, genuine and interesting, some are contrived and boring.
McGregor, Mayweather definitely the latter.
I like MMA, can't abide by these people walking around with pot bellies in garish 'TAPOUT' T shirts though. May as well carry a sign saying 'I like fighting!'.

Re: Conor Mcgregor vs Mayweather
Thought this was a result of a rather demeaning statement Floyd about MMA? Someone should tell this guy that this isn't a Japanese movie with honour, and bad dubbing. Boxing and MMA are sports, the participants athletes... Why would Bolt train to do the long jump, just because a decathlete can? In any case UFC is a long way away from the Vale Tudo origins of MMA, where the best combatants could make a legitimate case to be the best fighter in the world.
That said, though amusing, these MMA cats. McGregor could very well beat Floyd in a MMA fight, but he's kidding himself if he thinks a boxer with Floyd's handspeed couldn't do serious damage if you handed him 4oz gloves and a guy who lunges in like he does.
Rousey also said she could thrash Floyd, so I'm just assuming Dana White is trying to get some press off the biggest martial art event for a generation

UFC will drop off the radar once the American's aren't all holding the belts. As soon as the superior foreign fighters start flooding the market they won't give two s***ts as they can't support anyone who doesn't bark to their drawling tone.

It is over the top, she would alw3ays have a chance to submit someone but pure power and strength alone she'll get KO'd.
She is becoming a cross over star now so adding to the hype.
Note: Bob Arum confirmed Rousey was the only person to get a free ticket to the Mayweather/Manny fight!

I bring it up become certain posters seem to think that the boxing/MMA argument only goes one way. Toney thought it was a piece of p!ss and found out it's f*cking difficult. BTW, Couture was several years past his prime when he fought Toney as well.kingraf wrote:Interesting you bring up Toney-Couture - Can't understand how a former world champion beating a 40-something year old man three or four weight divisions past his best proves anything.

Re: Conor Mcgregor vs Mayweather
How about Anderson Silva gets in the ring with Vitali? Of course it's difficult, but it's a sport, not some ultimate fighting machine finding talent competion. Boxers aren't gonna switch to MMA, why would they? Chris Algieri makes more in a fight than your average MMA main eventer.
If Coutore wanted to challenge a fighter, he would have looked better challenging Vitali. Six world Titles in two fighting disciplines and a mind which has played a chess grandmaster to draw. Beating a has been in a division he picked because he can't be arsed to do any road work isn't definitive...
The question is never gonna get answered because no top boxer in his prime is going to to UFC to fight for $50k + $10k.

You ignored the point. The Americans have dominated the belts/title fights. Once the foreign fighters take over they won't give two craps.
Ryder Cup viewing figures are down because they get their arses kicked each time. They view the UFC as an American brand with American fighters dominating the divisions.

I haven't ignored the point, I just don't agree with it. A lot of the MMA attendees are knuckle dragging cretins who don't care what language you speak as they're only interested in highlight reel KO's and as long as a fighter delivers those, they'll be happy (much like a number of boxing fans). There are some excellent technical wrestlers and many of the beered up "fans" sit there booing and basically missing the whole point of MIXED martial arts.Coxy001 wrote:DAVE667 wrote:Yup, that's why they hate Fedor, Cro Cop, Silva etc.....oh dear!!Coxy001 wrote:UFC will drop off the radar once the American's aren't all holding the belts. Dave not discounting the skill level, it's just an each to their own on enjoying MMA though. That and boxing could learn a lot from the one divisional title holder, better ranking system and so forth.
Just can't see it as a sustainable business model. The guys you mentioned have personalities and seem a bit oblivious to the pittance they get paid compared to how much the business itself turns over, it's only a matter of time before there are a load of UFC level business with the best fighters fighting across different organisations. Much like we have with boxing with the belts etc.

There already are various different organisations such as Pride, M-1, Strikeforce, Affliction etc. Without doubt the top MMA Heavyweight of the last decade Fedor Emilianenko has never fought under the UFC banner.
