Conor Mcgregor vs Mayweather
First topic message reminder :
“I don’t look at a man who’s expert in one area as a specialist,” the UFC featherweight contender told Esquire. “I look at him as a rookie in ten other areas. If you can box, what happens if I grab hold of your legs? If you put me face-to-face with Floyd Mayweather — pound-for-pound boxing’s best — if I fought Floyd, I would kill him in less than thirty seconds. It would take me less than thirty seconds to wrap around him like a boa constrictor and strangle him.”
No s..t Conor.
Think Nadal would beat Rory Mcilory in tennis as well.
Seriously just because both are fighting sports you get idiots like this trying to steal spotlight by comparing themselves to boxers.
This is something like school kids come out with.
Yes I am bored on a Friday and I thought I would try and discuss a rather pointless topic.
I await your comments/insults!

Re: Conor Mcgregor vs Mayweather
I know the guy who trains McGregor, John Kavanagh, he's a hellava nice guy, top class BJJ competitor himself. I think a lot of people are happy for John having the success he is having with McGregor. I'm not a fan of MMA or the UFC franchise but I have personal interest in the story. The trash talk between Mayweather and McGregor would be good but I can't see Floyd getting the better of it.
When Mendes said to McGregor he had no wrestling or grappling game McGregor retorted “I could rest my balls on your forehead”..........how do you argue with that. Dubliner's are born with a preprogrammed hard drive of smart answers.
Kavanagh's other star Gunnar Nelson looks every bit as good as if not better than McGregor.

Is that a smart answer? Only in Ireland...

That is a mad answer which totally disarmed his opponent in the slagging match.
Anyway it makes sense in that he could wrestle and tie up Mendes to the point where he could rest his balls on his forehead.
It isn't a sarcastic joke or a sneer so maybe the English won't get it.

I don't get the issue here. McGregor is telling the truth. He'd wipe the floor with Mayweather, both in an MMA contest and in a 'street fight'. That's all he's saying. Sure, make it a boxing match, with boxing rules, and Floyd destroys him. Make it any other form or ruleset of fighting - not just MMA - and the more diversely trained fighter wins. McGregor is the stronger fighter. There's no way to doubt this.

It was actually very funny when he said it. Watch it live - it was a really good off the cuff comment. In comparison Floyd comes off like an imbecile with his soundbite/cookie cutter comments. McGregor is actually a funny - if almost caricature confident - guy.

Call me pompous but I don't see anything at all humorous in a classless individual like Conor Mcgregor making a classless comment befitting of a poorly educated teenager in a school playground.
In an actual street fight it's the man who initiates and connects first who ultimately gets the upper hand, the assumption that a poor striker gets the better of a boxer is pure speculation.

Wouldn't call McGregor a poor striker because he's not a boxer.

Can you do me a favour Strongy and ask Kavanah if he'd be interested in answering a few questions on coaching MMA etc? (I'm looking at doing an article on coaching techniques and would like to get a few different viewpoints)
Cheers bud

cant see it happening, ufc rules are so geared to wrestlers that there will always be decent americans knocking about with their background they have in that sport. one take down lie on top and the rounds yours.

McGregor was an irish national boxing champ apparently, so not a mug at boxing. Obviously not at professional levels. He's pretty much stealing Ali's lines, which is probably all new ground for mma fans of his generation. It's smart he's making a lot of money from using his irishness, mouth and being well matched for early finishes. Aldo is a different beast to anything he's seen before though. I like what he's brought to the franchise though. Dana whites the big winner so far though.

Ha, when I saying stealing Ali's lines, I mean regarding naming finishing times and all the pruning. I don't think Ali said he'd rest his nuts on another fighters head. I'd ali's done it to a few of the ladies though.

I don't think he's serious, ok against a guy her size and below her level.....maybe. I don't think for a moment Dana thinks she could beat Floyd. Dana is on very good terms with the Mayweathers and is a massive Boxing fan, boxed himself.
When I first saw the title of this thread I thought it was McGregor vs Mayweather whose the biggest tool! Defo think McGregor beats him in the one man hype machine stakes. Fair play to McGregor though, he's got people talking about him, even people who don't like mma on a boxing forum!

I reckon the highest paid athlete in the world is the bigger hype machine.

Ridiculous to call him a poor striker.
