Flanagan To Face The Winner Of Beltran vs Ao
Whilst the eyes of the world will be focused on Las Vegas this weekend for the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao mega-showdown, British lightweight star Terry Flanagan has his eyes on the WBO World title clash between Raymondo Beltran and Takahiro Ao.
Mexican hitman Beltran and Japanese ace Ao clash on Friday night at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas for the WBO 135lb crown vacated by Terence Crawford with Flanagan, the mandatory challenger for the title, in line to face the winner next.
Flanagan defeated Irish rival Stephen Ormond in February to claim his WBO mandatory challenger position and also the WBO European crown, with an action packed performance to prove that he's ready for his world title shot.
The unbeaten Manchester star can't wait to see who he will end up facing in the ring for the world title, live and exclusive on BoxNation, before watching who emerges victorious in the biggest fight of the modern era.
"Thankfully Mayweather v Pacquaio is on Saturday night, but if it was on Friday night, no question, I would have to watch Beltran and Ao!" Said Flanagan.
"On a professional level, because I'll be definitely be facing the winner out of Beltran and Ao next, I want to know who I'll be fighting and seeing how they perform so I can get my mind focused on them for when the fight is set,"
"Personally I'd like to see Beltran win the title so I'd get him. He's the bigger name in America and brings more recognition so it would make sense for me to fight him. He's lost his two previous attempts at the title and I think he'll be third time lucky against Ao."
"The draw to Burns was very controversial and many people believe he won it so he should really be champion, but in the loss to Crawford he was genuinely outpointed by the then best lightweight in the world,"
"I haven't seen too much of Ao, but from what I have seen he looks a very tough and hard fighter, he's a two-time and two-weight world champion winning titles at featherweight and super-featherweight and has never been stopped in his three losses,"
"I've got a feeling that Beltram will come out on top in this one in what will be a hard fight and I'll finally know who I'm going to face,"
"Then on Saturday night like everybody else on this planet I can't wait for Mayweather v Pacquiao as it's the biggest fight in my lifetime. Mayweather is the best boxer out there, but something is telling me Pacquiao is going to win this one on points."

Ao isn't exactly a stiff Truss, was the WBC World Champ at Super Featherweight and Featherweight. But we get it, you don't who he is so he's a stiff

Never read to much in to odds Truss, it's like looking at a press conference for nerves.

When you lose your title to a 36-9 journeyman..............
I think Hector Camacho needn't have worried....
I've never suggested looking for nerves at a press conference ..
But the oddsmakers are generally right..

All you need to know Truss is that he's a manc;), so C'mon Terry.
At least it'll be for an actual title rather than an interim title (or held at some stupid catchweight.)

You've got to Truss, otherwise you'll never enjoy boxing again.
I've kind of given up on the belts anyway, there's far too many knocking about. But it's good to see a Brit do well and a Manc at that

It's about time Flanagan stepped up Derby, his best opponent to date is a shell of Nate Campbell who looked like he'd forgot how to box.

At least we'll get too see how far he could go, lose in devastating fashion and it's tumbling down the rankings, lose but by a bit and maybe you've proven you can hang with the big boys.
Win in style and your announcing yourself to the world.
I love fights like this (regardless of the stupid title situation). Is about time we started seeing a lot more brits stepping up and getting into the hearts and minds of the public.

Go away!
You might actually want to watch some present day boxing rather then sticking those VHS's in video player and reliving the 80's.

You know Soldier boy...I reckon I know ten times more about Boxing since the 80s than you.........But it's hard to prove it when you're up against a one/two line hit and run merchant...
As for gay porn.............We all need a hobby.

The irony.........
I became a fan from the mid 90's, so being fair you will probably have more knowledge prior to this period. Not like I still havent seen a majority of the fights but you have lived it. Not proclaiming to be the fountain of all knowledge but I watch alot more boxing from around the world then your good self put it that way

I rate him. I was at the Olympia when he won the Prizefighter and he did impress me. Good solid all rounder and he does puncher a little harder then his record would suggest. I gave him the nod in the nip and tuck final against Sykes, but Sykes is relentless and is hard to get the decision against (which Crolla can atest to), especially over 3 rounds!
Has been a little off the radar as of late which does seem to happen under Warren for some reason but is back on the map with a clear win over Ormond.
I would have to see the Beltran v Ao fight tomorrow before I can give you an indication of his chances against either. Beltran maybe has been softened up after the Crawford schooling and Ao hasnt exactly been setting the world alight since his title defeat.

Cheers SOF, not sure what it is but I often get the feeling that Warren slows his fighters down after a certain point and keeps them off the radar before getting them a decent shot.

Seems to be a trait for prospects under Warren for some reason.
I was at the Bowlers a few years ago (funnily enough Flanagan was headlining fighting for the English title) when I came accross Callum Johnson for the first time. He stopped tough journyman James Tucker in 7 rounds and I said to my mate 'he's a prospect him, you will probably be seeing alot more of him'. After boxrecing him the next day, that was only his fifth fight in 2 and a half years and his next fight wasn't for another year! Think he's now left Warren and is under the Carl Greaves, so since turning pro in 2010, to date he has only had 12 fights! He's been fighting more regularly recently and has appeared on a couple of Matchroom bills so hopefully he can push on now.

Apparently Beltran missed the weight for this fight, so it may be that Flanagan gets a vacant title shot.

Yeah but Terry seems to have earnt it on the back of his wins, No disrespect to Derry but he got his on the back of Crolla getting injured (and it was for the 'interim' belt)
Wait and see who it's against first Truss.

Could possibly be Gonzalez, to be honest I was impressed with him against Burns until he quit so think Flanagan would right up against it.

Yeah he did try to lose it, Beltran had no real choice but to attack early as I'd imagine he'd be knackered by half way. Caught Ao flush with a hook, surprised me as I couldn't see either getting a stoppage.

Being in condition constantly helps Ricky hold a shot. Thinks he's a bit mentally weak now though.
