am I right in seeing that Kohlschreiber isn't scheduled today? Does that mean he'll play (potentially) two matches tomorrow?

According to the schedule he should be playing on Court 3 after the Ivanovic match which is on now.

Re: Madrid Masters Thread
Good effort by the Yanks today. Isner getting over the fact that he missed 5000 MPs in his second set to run out a comfortable winner over Bellucci. Sock lost, but only in a final set TB against Tsonga.
Dimi beats Fognini - didn't see that coming!
Gasquet continuing his good form against Berdych, a set down but tight match and he's pushing him well. Horrible draw for Tomas this early in the tournament.

Azarenka squanders 3 MP on her serve 40:0/6:5 and loses on TB to Serena, who had a MP herself on 4:5.
Verdasco beats Cilic 6:7, 7:6, 6:3.
Berdy beats Gasquet 7:6, 7:5.
Nadal a set up 6:4, and looking good so far.

Nadal looks appalling based on the break I just saw him get.
Steve Johnson is a complete nobody but looks quite capable on court against Nadal. He shouldn't be getting more than two games against him.

Kyrgios behaving like a spoiled kid now.
He serves, Line judge calls it out, Lahyani overrules and calls it in, Kyrgios says get him out (the line judge) and all sorts of other stuff, then throws the racquet at the changeover.
Fed takes the first set on TB, pretty poor set, Fed barely settled in on last 2 games, Kyrgios just slapping the ball, no game plan whatsoever.

Fed went back to Switzerland after Istanbul and only arrived in Madrid yesterday. It's going to take him a set or two to get used to conditions, but if he can gut through it on experience, should be okay.

Strange comment from him about the circus. I wonder if he's hacked off with the (admittedly crap) line calling in general, the surface, or the Krygios entertainment show down the other end?
Either way he needs to get it out of his mind or he's going to lose.
I like Nick but he was a bit out of order with that line judge earlier, sadly.

What a TB, Kyrgos takes it at 14:12.
Fed goes home and deservedly, quite a flat show up, scruffy, shanky, with a few obligatory magic shots, second TB in double digits in 3 days.
Great win for Kyrgios, should boost his confidence against big guys, but hope also settles down his kiddy behavior.
Fed showed up a day ago in Madrid, just for the money

Well done Krygios! Definitely deserved it, he played very well especially during pressure moments I very much hope that he carries this on and doesn't fall flat against Isner next round.
I actually thought Federer played a decent match - not amazing but far from poor. That TB was awesome to watch.

Great play by Kyrgios. He has now beaten Rafa and Roger and he is still so young. All the signs say he is a future slam winner in the making. As for Roger - well it was a narrow loss but he'll dust himself off and be back in contention in Rome.

Great win for Kyrgios! 1-0 against Nadal and 1-0 against Federer. He should stop now and be a legend!
Amazing Fed still has it in him to fight so hard at this point in his carreer. His clay form has been avg to poor though and he had a good training block coming in, so not sure what the issue is with his level now.

Well shame for me anyway, because I was supporting the Basel Bungler (or whatever those 606 people used to call him).
To be fair to Kyri, he played great when it mattered, his ground game was better than I thought.

Cracking match that between Marcel Granollers and Gael Monfils. The Spaniard comes out on top 7-6 6-7 6-4 after 3 hours 20 minutes with one of the last games having 10 deuces. Both players barely able to walk off court such was their fatigue.

Can't believe Murray and Kohli are starting at 1.15am! If its 3 hours again then surely the winner has no chance in the next round!

Disappointed about the big nose's loss but at least he lost to someone worthwhile. I watched some of Estoril final. Kyrgios definitely does not play clay court tennis - very aggressive and often shooting from the hip, but he is quite good at what he does, so I am quite interested to see how far he can go this tournament.
He is now probably guaranteed seeding at the FO - which is good for both him and maybe also some other seed that could have ended up playing him in the first round.

Re: Madrid Masters Thread
Berdych and Ancic when they were the same age as Kygrios is now, were also beating both Fed and Rafa for the first time but thereafter they hadnt done much to win the big prizes. Back then Fedal (well at least Fed) were more formidable.
Kygrios may be more fortunate than Berdych and Ancic though, as Fedal are getting old, and the other two big four members are also not that young anymore, so he has better chances of winning the big ones unlike Berdych (and Ancic).
Fedal are on the decline, when they both are losing to the likes of Raonic, Kei (for Fed) and Kgygrios now. It will be interesting to see Novak vs Kygrios, how he's going to handle Kygrios big serves, and vs Coric, who claimed that he plays like Novak when he's (Coric) playing well.

Re: Madrid Masters Thread
Well I have to correct my post, at least Berdych beat Fed and Rafa when both are more formidable as no.1 and no.2. (Ancic beat them before they became Fedal).
Not to take away credit from Kygrios, he beat Rafa at Wimbledon when Rafa was already doing badly on grass, and Fed now was also struggling to beat his opponents on clay. Coric had also beaten Rafa and Murray now, I think a better gauge is whether Kygrios and Coric, the new gen guys, could beat the current hottest player - the no.1 player.

Murray's next opponent is Granollers if I'm not wrong, who spent three hours beating Monfils, and almost couldnt walk after that. I doubt he has any energy left to beat Murray.

Re: Madrid Masters Thread
yeah Murray's saving grace might be the fact that Granollers should be equally (more?) exhausted. I didn't watch Murray's match, but going by the length and indeed the Munich final there probably weren't too many long protracted rallies. Granollers-Monfils were full of very long rallies, with both players almost unable to walk afterwards. They also finished pretty late, so I actually think Murray has a decent chance.
If he can dispose of Granollers fairly swiftly, he should then be better for the rest of the tournament...

Re: Madrid Masters Thread
I agree Mad for Chelsea. Granollers match was a gruelling three hours twenty minutes long and finished fairly late as well. At the end Granollers walked off court as stiff as a board so I shouldn't see fatigue being the deciding factor here.
I watched the Murray match - pretty good stuff it was too considering it was in a practically empty stadium in the early hours of the morning. Kohlschreiber is no mug and the type of player who can cause upsets so Murray avoided a banana skin slip. Andy's serve worked well and was aggressive at times but wasn't very settled mentally - countering away to himself, beating himself up over missed chances etc. Still a decent enough performance and hopefully there is more to come. Final set bagel emphasised Kohlschreiber's mental frailties. Sure Murray went up through the gears but once Kohlschreiber lost his serve he lost the stomach for the fight IMO.

First 3 matches today look good (Dimi-Stan, Kyrgios-Isner and JWT-Berdy. The rest look like they should be relatively comfortable for the favourites. Only match I may have a chance to see is Raonic-Mayer - not one that particularly interests me.

Re: Madrid Masters Thread
watching Tsonga-Berdych at the moment, dreadful match so far. Has anyone even hit a winner yet? Tsonga gets upset over a ball he thought was called out (maybe by someone in the crowd) and gifts Berdych a break, only for Berdych's first serve to go completely walkabout, and with some wild shots Berdych has handed the break straight back. 4-3 Berdych, on serve.
