Stick Your House on A Canelo KO?
Canelo against Kirkland is a fight I've been waiting for a little bit, should be fun while it lasts, but can anyone honestly see Kirkland surviving 12?
He can realistically only fight one way, but against someone with the consistency of Canelo defensively and the ability to maintain balance and push forward with his punches against the defensively open Mandingo Warrior does anyone realistically expect him to finish the fight? Kirkland is fun to watch, I mean pretty much every fight he's in against a decent level of opponent he'll get hurt at some point, but he's not been in with anyone anywhere near the level of Canelo.
I can see Canelo revelling in someone coming forward at him ala the way Angulo did, albeit Kirkland has slightly better head movement ad is not as stationary, there's just so much to take advantage of with James' open style, and it seems he's befuddled when anything close to a combination comes towards him. I think against Angulo he survived the first round with a bit more luck than most things and Angulo smothering himself an awful lot and was then able to make his speed pay dividends.
A look into certain technical aspects of Kirkland he does so many things wrong, after a couple of rounds he tends to stop moving his head and becomes a fair target, and when he steps in with his jab, watch his left hand, he moves it out wide and if Canelo can take a quick shift to his right and throw a straight right I can see it being over pretty fast. Angulo was able to take a lot of shots from Canelo, but Kirkland doesn't seem to have that same chin, everytime Tapia touched him he was all over the place. Of course Ishida, a total non puncher took him out in a round (Although preparation wasn't great for that fight). But also looking at another thing, Anne Wolf isn't even training Kirkland for his biggest fight of his career, and when was the last time she wasn't training him? The Ishida fight...
Personally I really struggle to see Kirkland surviving and you can get 5/4 on most places for a Canelo KO, gonna have a fair pop on it.

It's not a bad bet. And the odds are a lot better than the 4/11 on Garcia which you only just about got away with.

Haha, most certainly Garcia was poor that night, but I always felt that even if it was close, Peterson was not getting a decision. Signed by Al Haymen to lose unfortunately. And I don't think many felt Peterson could run away with it.

There's only two people on here who can afford to bet their house on a Canelo KO...that's STRONGY cos he's so rich and TRUSSY cos his father-in-law will just buy him another if it goes wrong

I've gone for Canelo by decision. Reason being is I think as long as Kirkland hasn't been stopped in the first 3 rounds, then Canelo will pace himself for the rest of the fight.
With a mixture of Canelos power and Kirklands power, the fight could end at any point but I'm going for early or points.

Should be a great fight. Both are there to be hit, Kirkland has the power advantage, Canelo has the chin advantage. Canelo has better boxing skills and I expect him to win by stoppage.

If Kirkland gets to tee off on Canelo, it may give a measure of whether Canelo would be in any way durable against GGG.

I think this is going to be a really good fight. Be shocked if goes to the scorecards.
Think Canelo will be looking to make a statement tonight.

What I'm assuming he did it after the Mayweather loss against Angulo, and whilst Kirkland is slightly better defensively its not by much. The Lara fight put a dampner on him as I think an awful lot thought he lost, this isn't PPV due to MayPac so will be big viewing figures, think he's gonna go out there to get the job done in style.

Omg! What a shocking knockout, Kirkland out like a light in round 3
Looked like Kirkland was getting back into it after a shocking start but dayum, Canelo had some dynamite in his fists tonight.
Great performanxe he did what he needed to do

Forgot to set the alarm! Only seen HBO's highlights but will be looking out for the whole fight.
Also made some money. Wish there were more fights like this to bet on.
Ps - Just helps show how good Floyd's performance was that he could school a fighter like Canelo and keep him at bay with ease for 12 rounds.
I'm a big fan of Canelo. Win or lose he'll be a star in boxing for many years. and losing his '0' will make him more entertaining.

Re: Stick Your House on A Canelo KO?
To be fair, Canelo fought the complete wrong fight against Floyd. Wasn't his or his team's brightest day. He learned a lot from that battle, and he's a better fighter for it. Reckon he's still open to being outboxed though, like Lara showed. Canelo can at times be a bit of a bull with a red rag. If you move laterally fast enough, you can make him look silly.
He's a seriously good fighter though.

Re: Stick Your House on A Canelo KO?
Agreed Kingraf but Floyd has a nack of making fighters get disheartened.
Canelo is a fan favourite and if he was to beat Cotto in a passing of the torch fight on a huge stage he will become a superstar.
To think he still has potentially 10+ years at the top is scary!

Yeh what a Knockout by Canelo definitely was expected and well done Alex for robbing the bookies again!
Showed some great power in there tonight Kirkland just couldn't cope.
Also shows how good the Floyd performance was.
Cotto vs Alvarez next please although I really feel Alvarez will stop him

Carnage, what a knock out. I know canelo's not the lightest on his feet, but he sure knows how to put a combination together.

Canelo Cotto definitely up next. Think they both looked at the Mayweather Pacquiao revenue and thought, 'right, we can sort this.'.
Dan Rafael claims it's a lock in the autumn. Provided Cotto beats Geale, of course.

Huuge KO and had a fairly big whack on the KO and JMcD win as a double.
Cotto next, looking forwards to that massive diva getting his comeuppance after his antics recently.

Was always gonna be Kirkland's problem, gets hit and has no defence, has little defence coming forwards and can't take a hit. Recipe for disaster by the guts and toughness shown was incredible from Kirkland.

Just watched the highlights of this. Kirkland simply doesn't have a defence. However, you have to hand it to Alvarez - he came to this fight wanting to make a statement and boy did he do it. That final KO was brutal.
I know the likes of Ward and Mayweather are unbeaten as a result of being great at their slickster arts, but as a fan of the noble sport give me excitement such as this any day!

I know what you mean JBW, think he'll maybe have just enough in his bursts coming forward for Geale to win a decision. But really would we surprised to see Kirkland run over Cotto with his size and strength? Guy simply shouldn't be at Middle despite his win over Martinez. Trout showed how a big strong guy could bully little Cotto up at he higher end of the spectrum. We have to wonder what's left with Geale after the Golovkin and Barker losses.

Fighting in the U.S on a Peurto Rican holiday, with a Cotto/Alvarez fight in the making I would say Geale is "up against it" so to speak.

Geale wont he able to stop Cotto, mind you he is.a pretty decent body puncher which is cottos weak spot, but think that Cotto should have enough to pull of the win. Geale is a solid foghter but is probably past his peak and seemed to have lost his heart in the GGG fight
Cotto vs Canelo is the big fight in boxing atm and I think Canelo does him, too big and too strong

I think Cotto will get past Geale without too much trouble. Post Martinez I fancied him to beat Canelo but we won't know what the year long lay off has done until we see the Geale fight.
Could be reminiscent of Cotto Margarito 1. It's an exciting fight, no doubt about that.

Think it could be a huge banana skin john. Geale is a legitimate middleweight cotto isn't. It's at a silly catchweight that will aid cotto (157?), but either way I'd see it as cotto's first middleweight test, I just haven't been able to give him full credit for the Martinez win.John Bloody Wayne wrote:How confident are people that Cotto gets past Geale?

Did you see the 30 day pre fight weigh in, Cotto weighed in 164 lbs and Geale weighed 159lbs (159!!!!). Is geale really that small? Hes 5'10 and been at middleweight his whole career, 159 at this point seems unlikely, thought he was naturally heavier then that

Thought he was naturally bigger than that too. Never figured him for a huge middle, but thought he was at least equivalent to barker, and I definitely thought he was bigger than golovkin.Hands Of Stone wrote:jimdig wrote:Think it could be a huge banana skin john. Yea I thought as much, came as a shock. If that is usual for Geale he could easily have fought at 154. Geale migt be looking to come in light so he can box and use his foot and hand speed coupled with his height and not go toe to toe with the stronger puncher in cotto

Alternatively, how old is Geale? Maybe he realises he's at that stage in his career where he's a challenger/stepping stone/keep busy. As such, fights will generally come at short notice. Ergo, at all times he should be there or thereabouts in terms of Shape.

Lovely ko. Kirkland is a limited one-dimensional flat-track bully, glad he got wiped outta there.
Only thing that takes the shine off it is the inevitable "Oh how good does Floyd's win look now" tripe. In my eyes in changes absolutely nothing, with the Lara fight proving the point.

Kept on pouring forwards and kept on fighting and throwing big bombs of his own. If anything his stock has gone up as people that have now been exposed to his "somewhat" reckless approach realise he's seldom involved in a borefest of a fight.
He wades in throwing big bombs and is always in entertaining fights... He is limited Toppy, completely agree on that. But he's always going to be sub-world level (like a Ward style of fighter) but you can't dislike his style and how he goes about his business with complete disregard for defence.
We have the biggest snorefest one weekend and then the next we get a proper old fashioned tear up and some still complain!
