Ulster 2015/2016
First topic message reminder :
Thought i would give ol' GC a helping hand and try and get Ulster types looking inward at what has been a tricky season and looking forward to next season and how we should improve. Dont have time to put down all my own theories but will do so later. This thread is a matawalu free zone btw!

Re: Ulster 2015/2016
Great to see you back, geoff, and thanks for the insights.
I'm encouraged by the news, and very happy that Doyle is on his was back, although Reidy looks to be a very good signing indeed, and hopefully proves to better than the rest.
Replacing Pienaar will be incredibly difficult, and likely impossible to find a player to fill his boots, but hope we get someone of international level anyway.

The chinks of light we have re Pienaer are 2 fold:
1 - it seems the IRFU are ok for the Provinces signing existing NIQ players over 30 on 1 year contracts so if Ruan is prepared to accept that we could keep him beyond 2017.
2- with Murray, Marmion and McGrath at the other 3 Provinces we may well be given some leeway at 9 especially if we can point to the wealth of young Irish players we have for the front five and 10 to 15 (with Piatua being the only non IQ players for those positions)
Obviously though the real answer is producing a player of our own

Good to hear from you again Geoff, thanks for the insight. There's nothing worse than a tight ship when you love rumours

One player I forgot to mention is Mulholland
Basically being assessed to decide if he is good enough to join Wilson and Cross as part of the backup crew for the backrow.

Basically I would say they are on probation till the end of the year.
Like the players they need to prove to him they are part of the future.
Surely Clarke has an uphill battle to be retained? McCall has been moved about the front row, like you say was considered 4th choice too as LH, Lutton was nowhere to seen before Kiss and looking like he was on his way out, O'Connor was on the fringes at best now hes a regular plus are there any forwards who have kicked on because of his coaching? From the outside it looks like its the opposite

Apparently in england it can be played in your area for legal reasons. Well worth the TV licence
